I called Discovery Cove to book a cabana for three weeks from today and they were already sold out. I had no idea they would be so popular. I wouldn't care, except it's for my father's 70th birthday and I know he will need a place to rest in the shade. Plus, it's his birthday and I wanted to do something special for him. I was able to change my reservation to a different day so we could have the cabana. The Discovery Cove people were super nice and helpful. There are only a handful of days with available cabanas this summer.

Thanks for the heads up, Fantasia. I'm glad that you were able to get the date changed and get a cabana...your dad will love it :)

I am keeping fingers crossed that we will be able to get one for our trip (and yes, I've got the calendar marked to call 3 weeks out). I guess the safest bet to make sure we get a cabana is to go with one of the celebration packages but honestly I just can't make myself spend 400+ when all we really want is the cabana.

We are in the same boat for October. We would love to splurge on a cabana for one of our dates, but with two DC days booked for this trip among other pricey attractions (and the Canadian exchange rate at 30% or more), a celebration package is simply not in the budget. I will call at the three week mark anyway, just to see.

Just out of curiosity, what is the price for a cabana without the celebration package? I did the celebration package for our first visit last September and LOVED the cabana, getting the package was a no brainer for me since we were planning on buying the photo package anyway, and the gifts with the package were great! I can't imagine going again without a cabana .......yes, I am spoiled, or I should say my best friend is spoiled by me LOL. We are thinking about going in January or February but not really interested in all the extras that come with a package but would love the cabana for the day.

@scdak It was something like $229. I had my heart set on getting the cabana, so I'm glad we could work it out. I felt like the more expensive package was worth it if you were going to get a lot of photos. I'm 42 - I don't want to see pictures of myself in a bathing suit!

Have you looked at my avatar LOL? I am the brunette and FAR older than you, and I willingly took pictures for the package, most of them were with our swim vests on so you couldn't see our suits :flower1: TRUST me, I hate to be in pictures but for the memories of DC I allowed them , we had lots of them done in the aviary or the lazy river plus the dolphin ones and the one at 7am when we arrived. Add to that about 1000 of our own with 3 different cameras and most of them were pictures of us not just the beautiful scenery:tongue:

Enjoy your cabana and your day at DC!

According to this link:

https://discoverycove.com/en/offers-and-upgrades/special-occasions/

cabanas are $199 as a stand-alone rental. Scroll down to the VIP package info and it breaks out the value of the cabana.

Gosh, I can see why I booked the elite package last September (excluding the spoiled best friend reason), I think that will be my option again if we are able to go in 2017 instead of just the cabana rental .........I would have to be in the pictures anyway and we would buy the photo package too :sunny:

A quick update. There were no cabanas available for our date either and the woman that I spoke with at DC was able to change our reservation to a different day that had cabanas available. Definitely pricey (219 before tax) but I knew that going in. I'm just glad that we've got one.

Glade you got it changed you will enjoy the cabana.

I was just there on Sunday. The cabana was definitely worth it for us. We enjoyed having a dedicated place to put our things and a comfortable, shaded area to hang out in. Make sure you ask for your own bottle of sunblock - much easier than using the pump bottles by the public lockers. We were right in front of the Grand Reef and loved our spot. Our cabana girl even told us they feed the large sting rays every day at 3:00 right in front of our cabana. That was pretty cool to watch.

Thanks so much :). We had a cabana last time we visited DC (which I thought was going to be our only time...ha) and it was just perfect.

Thanks for the tip about the sunscreen! Our cabana last visit was by the Grand Reef and we just loved it. It was a great location and I hope that we luck into one there this time. I'm planning to spend a good chunk of time at (in) the Grand Reef.
