Hi,
My DD (7) and I noticed there was a Discover The Magic Tour. We are wanting to know if it is still available to do? Has anyone done it and what did you think of it? What is the youngest a child can be? I would like to do it with both my girls who would be 8 and 5 when we are there next year.
Thank you for all your help and advice.:goodvibes

We did the tour a few years ago when we had a family reunion at DLR. It was a big group of kids and their parents, I can't remember exactly how many. We had about 8 kids and 6 adults in our family group plus the other people.

I think most kids LOVED it. :goodvibes Our cousins, which were between the ages of 4 and 8, were totally thrilled with it. My youngest was 9 and enjoyed it too. My oldest was 11 at the time and he wasn't really into it. But, the CM really engaged him. Those CMs are so good at getting everyone involved. Even though my oldest won't admit it now, I know he had a pretty good time.

We had a treasure hunt around the park. The parents mostly held back and chatted among each other and let the kids do all the hunting and engaging with the CM.

I loved it. It was great fun for our family and we have good memories from it.

I hope that helps....

We did this tour on Friday with our 4 and 5 year olds. It was just the four of us and we had a lot of fun BUT my 5 year old was super excited that he was going to find some treasure at the end. Instead they got a slushie, a private meet with Mickey and a pin, no treasure at all. He was soooo disapointed, I really wish we would have made a treasure chest for him and had Mickey present it. Up to that point though, it was great. The website says you go on six attractions, but we only did four. We walked on Pirates on our own boat, went through Tarzan's Treehouse, walked on Buzz, and got first pick on the carousel which was great for my DD because she'd been trying to get on Jingles all week and kept missing out. The hunt is fun, you find treasure chests that have been hidden around the park. My DD filled her pockets with "jewels" from the chests and thought that was great. They did say that the tour could take up to 20 people, but I don't think it would have been nearly as much fun if there had been other families with us.

We did the tour a couple of years ago, and everyone received a small treasure chest from Mickey at his house, which is considered one of the 6 attractions. (The pin was inside the chest). I wonder if they ran out of treasure chests that day. I would think that they would still have those as it is part of the whole "treasure hunt"......to get treasure at the end. Hopefully someone who has been more recently can help on whether or not they still do this. If they do, and they ran out of chests on the day that you were there, I'd contact DLR and ask for one to be sent to you. It won't be the same as getting it on that day from Mickey, but I'd still ask.

Hmmm, I think they may have stopped giving out the treasure chests, I was told afterwards that they just get the pin. It would be interesting to hear if someone else went recently and got a chest. I felt really bad for DS, he was confused and didn't understand why we were leaving without any treasure. :sad1:

We got treasure chests in December 2008 which was the last time we did the tour. That's too bad they stopped doing that.

Thanks for the replies. We will be there the last week of September 2011. I know it will be quiet so will it still be available and what is the cost a rough guide is great thanks. Do the parents get the pin and slushie or is it just for the kids? Can one parent go with two children or is it better to have a parent each?
Sorry for all questions? Thanks in advance for all your help.

It is $59 for the first two people in your party and $49 for each additional person.
I am sure that everyone in the party gets the pins and treats, you are paying for it.

Ok, I emailed guest relations and they said that the treasure chest was discontinued a year ago. I did let them know that we had a great time, but my 5 year old was really disapointed that he didn't get any treasure. Hopefully they'll go back to giving out the chests sometime, I'm sure the kids would like it much better than a pin! pirate:

Sorry to hear about the treasure chests and that your 5 y.o. was disappointed. When we did this a year and a half ago, the treasure chests that they found in the parks had puzzle pieces (no jewels that I can remember), and at the end of the tour, the puzzle led them to Mickey's house. Maybe they now consider the jewels to be the treasure since the chests have been discontinued? I hope that you had a great time at DLR despite this disappointment. :)

Thank you, we had a blast! It sounds like the tour is pretty much the same, besides the prize at the end. I'm not sure that the kids are supposed to take the jewels from the chests, they looked like they'd been in there forever - but my 4 year old kept grabbing some and the guide said it was ok LOL. The 4 y.o. was fine with meeting Mickey and getting a pin, my son is just obsessed with finding "real" treasure. He ran around Pirate's Lair asking "Where is the real booty, you scurvy dogs?" It was hilarious. :rotfl:

Ok...now I need to find out if what I found surfing the net is true. Does Pluto come out with blood? Do you have to find out what happened to him? There is great debate in our house about whether or not it is aimed at he kids you know...death,drinking etc. Please put hubby's mind to rest.:lmao:

No LOL - none of that happens, it's a joke. :rotfl:The only character we met was Mickey.

Briggscreek...thank you. Could you give me a basic run down of the tour please? I am very keen to do it with my daughters but trying to find out what to expect is a little bit challenging. I have done a few searches and come up with many different explanations. I should just hang out here and get all my details instead.princess:

I just booked it today for our family for July 3. I will take careful notes and give a full report with photos when we return.

Lissame that would be fantastic. Thanks for your help and we:: hope that you have a great time.

Sure. We met up with our guide at 10, and it was just her and the four of us - they did say that there could be up to 20 people when I booked the tour though. She came out with a treasure chest filled with stuff, including a piece of a treasure map. The map led us over by New Orleans Square and we found another chest, and a clue shaped like a puzzle piece which led us to Pirates of the Caribbean. We got to walk through the exit right onto our own boat, which was really cool. After Pirates, we found a chest nearby, and the clue let to Tarzan's Treehouse where another chest was hidden. This clue led us to Buzz Lightyear, and we got to walk right on. After Buzz, we found one more clue leading to King Arthur's Carousel. We got first pick of the horses, which was great since my DD had been trying to ride Jingles all week. We found one more chest nearby with the final puzzle piece, and the kids put the puzzle together. The puzzle is shaped like Mickey, and the clues lead us to Toontown. We all got a slushy and headed through Mickey's garage to meet him. We had to wait a bit, then we were led into a private room where Mickey was waiting for us. Our guide explained everything that we had done, and Mickey got all excited and handed us each a pin. My DD got her picture taken with Mickey, but DS wouldn't go near him LOL. It took about 2 1/2 hours to do the tour and we had a great time. I do wish that we would have had something else for Mickey to present to them though, because like I said, my DS was not impressed with the pin - he wanted the real pirate booty LOL.
