Has anyone done the new (and the old) Discover the Magic tour? We did the tour in May 2006 and had an AMAZING experience. I was planning on doing it for my DD's 4th birthday in October but a friend just came back and let's just say her experience was nothing like ours. I'm trying to determine if the tour has been changed that drastically or if she just really hit an off day.

And if I don't do the tour, and other suggestions for a 4 year olds birthday in the park.

We are doing this tour the Sunday after Sept. 12th (can't remember the exact date). I hope to get a trip report out ASAP after my trip. If you want something sooner when I get back, PM me!

We did this tour in April 2006 and we had a lot of fun. According to a poster on another disney board, the tour has since changed. The story is about a treasure chest and searching for lost treasure whereas last year we were trying to find the owner of a lost book. I believe that lunch is no longer included and has been replaced with a "frozen treat". The price has also gone up $10 a person.

Ariel52098: Please let us know how your tour went when you get back.

I also read that they have increased the number of attractions included to 6 or 7 instead of just the 3 previous ones.

I went on Aug 12 and it was much different than what I had heard it used to be. I was a bit disappointed....*****spoilers below.

10AM start at tour location

2 guides are "instructed" to finish the lost and found clean up before we can start our tour. Along the way we come across a puzzle piece and a map. One or the other of them (not sure which) had a clue.

Ride the train from Main St. to New Orleans

Ride POTC

Clues lead to another treasure box that contained another puzzle piece (clue), treasure, and red bandanas.

Run up Tarazans treehouse, run down.

Another puzzle piece is found (quick restroom break)

Ride Buzzlightyear

Another puzzle piece

Ride Carosel w/Peter Pan (I am pretty sure he was doing YOMD stuff and he just rode once with us....he didn't really seem to "know" what we were doing)

Another puzzle piece

Puzzle was completed and we returned it to Mickey in Toontown

After Mickey meet up we were given an icee as our treat, end time around 12:15-12:30

So if you count Peter we only had two character interactions. I am curious to hear if others had the same results and if the felt a bit upset with it?

Thanks for your write up on the tour. It definietly does sound a lot different and not in a good way. Only 2 charater interactions, Mickey & Peter Pan. Wow, that sounds like a disapointment. I don't thnk we'll be doing it for our trip on Oct now. We had at least 8 character interaction last year. I don't feel like shelling out an extra $40 from last years prices to just find puzzle pieces and get an icee. The great thing about the tour before was the character interaction a long the way. I'm hoping you still enjoyed the tour though. It's great that you got to go on so many attractions. We only did the carousel, Tom Sawyer's Island and the train.

thanks for asking this tammie33, I was just wondering the same thing.
There is a complete trip report with pictures on LP regarding the Discover the Magic Tour. I just put "Discover the magic Tour" in the search box.

It sounds like fun, but for that price I don't know.
Also, I was disappointed to see that the tour is only offered at 10am..that is PRIME ride time before it gets too crowded. They should offer the tour in the afternoon.

We're hopefully doing Mickey's TT Morning Madness (If I receive any tickets) on Wednesday morning, so that only leaves Friday morning to do the tour.
I don't want to waste M,T,Th EE days on the tour.

Does anyone know if the rides included on the tour offer a shorter wait? or are you paying to ride with the CM tour guide?

im so glade i decied not to do this tour id scream ...excuse me it shows a pic of snowhwite and the dawfs playing witht he kid..now that would be fun, they should get other charcters invoveld in it and take the price down

We're going Sept 11-18 and doing the tour on a Sunday. For the time we are there it is only offered on Sat. or Sun. at 10am.
I'm a little worried that it won't be as nice as the one I read about. I'll try to remember to take LOTS of pics and report back. I'm moving the day we leave DLR so it may take me up to a week to get settled enough to report in.

We did the tour on August 19th (Sunday) - it was available Fri, Sat, Sun. It was just as the poster above described, except that we didn't meet Peter Pan - only Mickey at the end. I have to say that my 5-year-old dd absolutely loved it - it helped that we were the only family so she got to do all the clues/map holding etc, but she definitely had a great time.

And no, we didn't wait for the rides - just walked straight to the exit.
