I'm finding more and more places that don't take Discover Card , does anybody know why ?
I'm down to 2 credit cards, and was only planning on keeping the Discover. I'm kind of scared to have it as my only one now though .The other card is a Citibank Visa.
I'd hate to get rid of my Discover, I've had it about 5 years. The Visa I've only had for a year, I used it only for a 0 percent balance transfer.

Any Advice ?
Is Discover a bad company ?

Discover isn't a bad company. I've had my Discover Card for a few months. I've actually been surprised by how many people DO take Discover. I think some businesses don't use it because they just don't want to have to pay another credit card company along with Visa, MC, and AmEx.

Also, I've heard cancelling credit cards can have a neg. effect on your credit report. If you decide to stop using the card, don't cancel it.

It is not that Discover Card is a bad card - unless you carry a balance but that is another story. It is because Discover Card charges merchants a higher fee for accepting their card. Typically, Merchants can get a Visa/Mastercard account at one price - they pay for accepting cards in general and they also pay a % on each charge. Discover Card charges a higher % than Visa/Mastercard typically. That is also true for Amex so while most places will take Visa/Mastercard, they may think twice about accepting Discover Card and American Express.

Very true ....my company will not take it. They want to much of the sale and they do not fund the purchases right away (last time we did take them, it may have changed) which means if i ran say $1000 in Discover today i would see about half of it show up in about 2 days into my bank account and the other 1/2 in about 2 weeks.

Thank You guys so much for the responses !!

That helps alot. I was worried that maybe they were hard to deal with or businesses had alot of problems from them !

I'm actually finding that more and more places are taking Discover Card. It's not as much as MasterCard and VISA, but still more places than in the past.

My company started taking Discover cards at the beginning when you were lucky to see one a week. We still take 'em :) , in fact, we get more Discover charges than AmEx.

It took us a long time to sign on to take American Express.. they are by far the most expensive for a retailer to accept.. and by far the rudest group of people I've ever had to deal with for support when their authorization system went down.
