Just wondering if cruises are ever discounted like WDW resorts and packages are, or are they always the listed full price?

Military rates at 90 days or less out. Sometimes there is a Florida resident deal. Close to sailings they may offer *GT rates that are reduced, but you have no choice of room. You get what you get and it is usually assigned very close to sailing date, if not on the day you arrive at the port.

Edit: I was not clear on the room thing...you buy a category live inside, oceanview, etc. and that is all you know...you wont get to pick location or deck of your room with the IGT,OGT. VGT rates.

Discounts are pretty rare and generally only open right before sailing. If you live near a port and have a flexible schedule, you can cruise pretty cheap at times. Cruises are priced based on expected occupancy. They do go up in price to match demand. However, lesser demand cruises remain pretty reasonable, especially if you sail during the school year.

DCL cruises do not regularly offer deep discounts the way WDW resorts do, unfortunately.

The most expensive times to sail are when school is out for most American children. The military (MTO) & Florida residents (FLR) get the best deals in terms of frequently getting opportunities for discounts.

General public discounts, called "GT restricted rates" (which are not the same thing as GTY rates- GTY is not a discount) occasionally are offered during the last few months before sailing, but GT rates are not offered every cruise and they come and go (if you see one you want, you'll have to nab it- could easily be gone tomorrow), and they contain restrictions as the name implies:
  • Pay in full immediately
  • No changes allowed (you can't add, remove or switch any guests)
  • You don't get to choose or change your stateroom
GT rates come in three types:
  • IGT (GT rate for an inside stateroom)
  • OGT (GT rate for an oceanview stateroom)
  • VGT (GT rate for a verandah stateroom)
