Discounts with DVC Membership Question...

I was wondering if you get a discount on tickets, for example 1 day tickets and 5 day park hopping tickets with your DVC Member card. Or is it strictly restricted to the Length of Stay pass (or whatever they are calling that now). Trying to decide if I should buy a Disney Club membership before our upcoming visit or not. This will be our first stay at the DVC since the free tickets we used to get expired. Also do you get discounts at the World of Disney store in the Marketplace, or is that only for Disney Club Members? Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

The only Discount is on the LOS passes. In addition, DVC has come up with a new ticket option available to DVC members. In a nut shell, you buy 4 five-day hopper passes that will be good for the next 5 years.

If you are planning on buying annual passes, I would definitely look into the Disney Club. If you are looking into hopper passes, it owuld depend on how many you plan to buy. See how much the savings will be vs. the cost of the card.

DVC ticket discount applies only to length of stay pass(10%). Also, no discount at any WDW or Downtown Disney store (you get a 10% discount at any Disney Store that is not in WDW or Downtown Disney)

I would be buying 4 5-day hoppers probably. Three adults and one child. Sounds like the Disney Club would almost pay for itself if someone planned on spending some money on souvenirs at the World of Disney Store as well as on the tickets. I will have to think about this. The MKC discount on hoppers used to be about $5 on a 5 day passport. Is this pretty much how it still is. Thanks again for your replies.

Have you checked this site yet or AAA. I was quoted a price of $220. from AAA and $222. on this site. These prices are for 5 day pass only.

I know we get a 10% discount on LOS Passes but, how much are they? We will be arriving on Oct 22 sometime in the afternoon at OKW and leaving in the morning on the 27th. No time in the morning of 27th to go to the parks. We were thinking of doing 1 day at Universal Studios. Annual Passes would be of no use to us, we are not planning another WDW trip for a couple of years after this one. DH is not a WDW park nut like me. Right now looking into just a 5 day pass. Any advice would be helpful, thanks. :)

How much are the dvc passes you mentioned and where are they available?

I spoke with a DVC person today and she was not aware of the Discount you described in your post. Where can I get more info on this?

Thanks,
ColdNorth (Vol fan) :)

Sorry, I wasn't descriptive enough.

It is called "Magical Year Pass" It is good 4 of the next 5 years. You will be able to visit the parks for 5 days within the year. They cost $749 for both adult and children. This is slightly less than 4 five-day hopper for an adult, but cost more than 4 five-day hoppers for a child. The bad thing is that you can only use 5 days in each year and days not used can not be used on future vists like a true hopper pass.

Hope this helps.

We had a poll about how many thought that this new "Magic Years" would be useful to them. The results were that virtually no one at all thought the pass would be useful. Just about no one indicated that they would buy this pass.

The pass really looks silly to me. Its really not even worth doing the research into seeing if it will work for you.

Bicker did some nice analysis, he showed that if you take the money and buy 7-day passes at today's price, you get a better, more flexible, lower priced deal. And anyone can buy those passes, so again, they aint doing us no favors.

I read about those Magical Year Passes and I didn't think that they were a good deal either. I would never consider them. I don't like the use it or lose it part of the pass. What if something happens one year and you are unable to go. You are out with no recourse. Plus, I don't think many people have the 750.00 per person to tie up now for 5 years worth of tickets. What I would like to see is Disney allowing you to use your points to buy passes. I doubt it would ever happen, but it would be an idea. It would increase the amount of units that Disney could rent to cash customers and save me the cost of tickets at the time.

People bring up points for passes often. I don't think it is viable. I don't think it will ever happen. I think it would be an awful deal for the members.

Disney gives about $5 cash value when you use points outside of DVC. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

Let's say $6 for this. A five day hopper is $230. That is about 40 points. For a family of four, you are spending around 150 points for just five park days.

Another way of thinking of this is that you would be roughly doubling the number of points needed for any stay.

Either of these are completely un-inspiring.

Does anyone believe that 150 points for four five day hoppers is worthwhile?

An annual pass....$369, or 61 points. Now that family of four is spending 240 points annually. Hmmmm, don't sound very doable, huh?

I was being optimistic when I said that Disney would assign $6 per point. They may only assign $5 or even less. That makes it even a worse deal.

No, we won't ever see points for passes.

You are probably right. I was being more liberal in my estimate of the cash value of a point, for example if a studio rents for around 250.00 per night and it is around 15 points per night for a studio during high season, non-weekend, then for 15 points you would get 250.00 worth of tickets. I know it will never happen, but I can dream, can't I?

I agree that if they are only giving you $5 or less per point then it would be a very bad deal for the member.
