Discounts Question for veteran CPer's

Hi there. My son is currently doing the CP. I know he gets discounted room rates at the disney hotels. I also understand there may be black out dates. But, what I'm wondering is this....can he get the discount at any resort hotel, even the deluxe? Does he have to be staying in the room? Does he have to be present at check in if he is booking the room for family members? And do cousins or aunts fall into the family members that can benefit from the discount?

It all really depends on the availability of rooms and when your family would be visiting. I was just looking to book a room for my own family in a few months from now and deluxe resorts such as the Polynesian WERE available. However, there have been many times where the deluxe resorts aren't available, simply because it is a more crowded time of year. He does not have to be staying in the room- there are two types of discounts offered, one for family/friends and one if he is staying in the room, so he would just need to select the first one. Cousins and aunts definitely can stay under his discount, they count as family! He does not have to be present when checking in, as long as he went to the resort and showed his cast member ID at some point within the 10 days before your family arrived. Hope this helped

Can I expand on this question? I haven't been able to find an answer to my question on the discounts thread, so thought maybe I'd have more luck here.

Does anyone know how many days/months out CMs can book the Friends and Family discounted hotel rooms?
