Discounts @ GC or DH?

Hey Everyone!

So I live in LA and I've been a AP holder for 4 years. I live only 40 minutes away from DL (well, okay, maybe 2 hours if traffic's horrible! ) so the last time I've actually stayed in a hotel at Disneyland was years ago - before I moved here.

Anyway, last December I got engaged in Disneyland, and then gave my fiance his own AP for Christmas. Recently my incredibly generous future mother in law gave me a few hundred dollars for my birthday, and I was thinking it might be fun for us to actually stay the night in Disneyland, preferably at the Grand Californian, or the Disneyland Hotel. I know I could find something MUCH cheaper outside the park, but since it's a birthday present, I figured I'd splurge.

What are the best ways of getting those rooms? I checked at Disneyland.com and a standard room at the GC in the middle of the week in October is $345 - more than the "mad money" I've got to spend! Anyone have any suggestions for discounts, etc? Or maybe I'm just crazy to think I could stay in one of those places for $200 or less. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Since you have an AP, you have access to the AP portion of disneyland.com. Go there, sign in to your account, go to the AP section (assuming you set that up...if you never did set yourself up online with your AP inf, do it now) and go to the Hotel Availability Calendar. Right now there's the AP7 special fabulous rate on certain dates, and you might find something good!

It seems to me that one of the other members here on DISboards said that last year she went to DLR in November and stayed in the GCH for $215 (I think it was that low - and they got to see some holiday decorations too) with the AP6 rate! So the rates might not be too far from the figure you want and are willing to spend! Also, if I recall, I think somewhere on the DL website, there was a special "Fall Rates" section (just for the general public, not AP holders) and those rates last through December 19. The GCH might be down as low as $269 with that, as it was with the PIN# offer from a couple of months ago. Not too bad!

We got the GC in mid-October for $249/night, standard room, by calling and asking for the AP7 rate. It took a lot of calls before I finally found the rate for our dates (which were not flexible). I also just got DLH Nov 22-25 for $149/standard with the AP7 rate. They had the upper level resort view for $189. The GC tends to book up, but if you keep calling, you may find an AP7opening, especially if your dates are flexible!

Right now at this moment, I see 10/6, 10/21, 10/22, and the 26th through 30th, each night at GCH for 249. Still not under 200, but getting closer.

10/21, and the 26th through the 29th, right now at this moment, at PPH, show up at 139.

10/24, 10/26, and the 28th through 30th are 159, right now at this moment, at DLH at 159.
