Discounts at Dolphin?

I am thinking about joining my husband for a conference at the Dolphin this spring (thanks to everyone who gave me input on the Dolphin...I'm going to try to go!).

I would love to score a great room for a great price (yes...the company is springing for the room, BUT it is our company and my husband and I try to cut corners where we can : )

At any rate...I am an RN and I have found that they give a great discount for nurses! Yeah Dolphin My questions are...What kind of room can I expect for this rate? I am also a Disney Club Member (for now) and belong to Starwood. Any thoughts...or tips?

The $129 discount buys a standard room, which is the same size as the other rooms, but no balcony and no special view. BUT, that's a phenomenal rate to be in the middle of the Epcot and MGM resorts.

The S&D seem to hand out more upgrades than other resorts, although nothing is ever guaranteed, so I'm always guardedly optimistic about an upgrade in those resorts. My theory is they have so many conventioners that just don't expect more than a standard view and don't ask. We're Starwoods members and have received an upgrade to a balcony room twice (once with lagoon/Epcot view to watch Illuminations and once with MGM view). Last year we asked to be close to the pool and got a ground floor room in a very convenient location. I just give them my SPG # when I make the reservation and attempt to give them my requests (balcony). Sometimes they tell me to inquire about upgrades at checkin and sometimes they seem to be noting it in the computer. So, I smile nicely at check in, show my SPG card, and ask about any possibility of a room with a balcony. I love the nurse's rate at S&D! Good luck.
