I wasn't sure where to post this but here goes...looking at a DVC rental through DiscountedDis. They got back to me really quickly - faster than Dvcrentals and others however I can't find reviews on this company. Also didn't Ask for a deposit. Website looks legit and they have a Facebook page. The information they've given regarding availability is in line with the other companies. I'm struggling a bit because there are no real "users" out there. Anyone heard of this company? Thoughts? TIA!!

Anyone can set up a Facebook page. The validation for it is not hard. They bought most of their page likes and their posts have 0 engagement. I could duplicate that in 24 hours, FWIW.

They provide no real info on their DBA or who is behind the page. This is a huge red flag for an online operation.

Use someone reputable. I don't believe these guys are real.

Thank you disneynutz and _auroraborealis_ - I didn't really have a great feeling but am having some trouble securing a DVC reservation for my specific dates. If it seems to good to be true it probably is! I'll keep searching! :smooth:

If you're having an issue for your dates, and a reputable broker has told you that rooms aren't available, unless DiscountedDis miraculously has a confirmed reservation for rent, they can't get it for you either. If it's a matter of points availability, I have a hard time believing that a small broker with no history or reviews has access to a magical cache of points that has passed over www.dvcrentalstore.com or David's. Especially since this site is full of poo about their compensation ('unprecedented $12 per point!') for owners. That's not at all unprecedented, or worthy of exclamation points. David's will pay $13 per point, as an example.

I also find this statement on their site hilariously terrible re: DVC rental. This is specifically on a page about their DVC process:

Disney resorts are in high demand, (SITE) recommends you start planning your vacation five to six months in advance. This way availability will be greater.

Ha. 5-6 months? NOPE. Try 7-11 months.

My bet is that the DVC element right now is totally lead generation for this:

In the event we can not match the reservation, we will offer you other resorts that are just minutes from the park.

I am now in the process of getting a DVC rental for SOME of my vacation through www.dvcrentalstore.com We worked with them 2 years ago and had no problem whatsoever getting a rental-this year it is totally different. All this hassle is making me consider buying a DVC timeshare.

You bring up some excellent points; I don't really have a good understanding of the rental process but I'm learning! And yes, they do advertise other timeshares, which I am absolutely not interested in considering. Disney all the way pirate:!!

Personally there is no way I'd used an unverified company with obvious errors on its pages.

Agree with the others here. Never heard of Discounted Dis. Stick with a reputable broker that has experiences and reviews, or go to the DisBoards DVC rent site and work with an owner.

This is almost certainly what is going on. DVC demand has really increased over the past few years as travel demand generally has increased. Through a combination of lower supply (more owners using their points for their own vacations rather than renting) and higher demand (more and more people wanting the "Deluxe for the price of a Moderate" rental deal) it's become quite hard to rent reservations. David now has only a $3/pp spread on his bid/ask prices, which is as low as I can remember it---and I suspect he'll be raising his rental prices soon, though in some cases he is running up against Disney's cash discounting, especially for 1BRs.

So, in that environment, prospective renters are getting a little bit desperate to get something, so along comes this outfit to try to shunt them off into who-knows-where.

They'll get an off-site deal that seems to good to be true. Then they'll have to sit through a three hour high pressure timeshare pitch.

Maybe. It could also be a (legitimate) offsite timeshare/private home rental. But, you are probably right.

In any event, I'd never start submitting cash via PayPal to an organization with no names, addresses, anything but a Google Voice 800 number for contact. PayPal provides NO buyer protection for timeshares. It's sketchy.

Throw in the sketchiness that is the information offered on the site, and the fact that it reads like it was written on the cheap by a writer in Singapore (i.e., cheap outsourcing)... just, nope.

Fairly convinced this is some kind of lead generation for something else entirely, and that the operators aren't exactly in good faith. And it's not that I think online travel agencies are sketchy -- most aren't. Dreams Unlimited, look at the amount of contact info out there on them. David's DVC and dvcrentalstore.com? Lots of stuff on them, verifiable people behind them, addresses, etc. etc.

Just because business can be done online does not negate the need for traditional trust signals.

Also doesn't help that the site is likely committing trademark infringement...particularly in using the Mickey Mouse logo as bullet points. If anyone knows someone in Disney legal, it might be worth sending them the link. A C&D letter will likely be sent in short order.

Hello All,

I came across this post this morning and I was a little taken back but also a little happy at the same time there is a forum to protect consumers. Let me explain.

I have owned a successful travel agency for years. I am a Disney lover and DVC member as well. I started DiscountedDIS a little bit ago because I was getting so much interest in Disney. Problem was, Disney does not come cheap. I saw a need. My company's main goal is to make every client’s vacation a possibility by any means.

As an agency, we will make a certain amount of money on every reservation we book. This is how agencies work. I will pay part of the client’s trip so they can afford to go and happily take less.

As far as Disney Vacation Club reservations go, it is not my main focus but I am trying to help people out in any way possible. People try to rent DVC points for one reason, to save money. I am not sure if you know this, but David’s and other suppliers have been raising their cost per point, where I charge the guests the lowest.

In owning another agency, we deal with timeshares on a daily basis. I have timeshare inventory and offer it to clients who can’t afford Disney or DVC. We offer them this at cost as well.

For all Disney reservations, we charge the client direct through Disney. For DVC reservations, we work the same as all the other companies. I am not out here trying to scam anybody.

Lporter- Sorry we couldn’t help you with your reservation as the DVC availability just wasn’t there. We sent you dates when everything you requested was open. We don’t control availability but I hope the service and work we did for you was appreciated!

I am a Disney lover just like all of you and all I am trying to do is bring some of the magic to others. I hope I did the best answering your concerns. Please feel free to message me on here or email.

You must not be very committed to the DVC rental part of your business. You may charge the guests the lowest, but you aren't paying DVC owners a very good price. Why should we chose to go through you when we can go with David's who is tried and proven and pays us more? They are raising their price per point because Disney is also raising their rates. Our maintenance fees are continually going up every single year. They are keeping up with the Disney hike and the high demand for points vs. the lower supply. I don't think most of use who own points and are willing to rent are looking at it from giving someone an awesome deal. Based on our response, it sounds like you are trying to get great deals for your customers, but aren't looking out for your base, your DVC members with points if you actually do intend to make that a part of your business plan.

I am also a DVC member and I know about the rising rates. However you have it backwards. David's,DRS, and others are paying more for points because they are taking in more reservations than they are in points so they need to entice the DVC member. We started offering $12 a point when $11 p/p was the norm. We have since adjusted to $13. We also have a match guarantee in case if anybody beats our prices. They just made the industry standard 13 to match us not to long ago.

When a client prices a DVC request with us, we always compare to Disney directly. We do this because after a client adds on all their tickets and add-ons, sometimes Disney is right around the same price for the same studio or 1 bedroom (Big price difference in 2s and 3s). For consumer protection, it makes the most sense to book through Disney than a private rental through a DVC member. People understand Disney is expensive and they do their due diligence before booking. With this said, I don't think payments can climb that much higher than $14 p/p for premium reservations unless Disney raises their rates.

I promise you we keep all our DVC members who rent with us happy as well as the guests we are able to book at great rates. We don't charge deposits and check all availability and build Disney packages (which is very time consuming) for free even. We provide great service. We are not trying to compete with David's or the others.
