Discounted Ticket Used to Bridge to AP ?

Can I purchase a discounted ticket and before the ticket has been used in full, will Universal use the value of the ticket toward the cost on an AP like Disney does? We are DVC members and are wanting to get outside the Disney bubble.

Yes.

If it's a promo ticket (such as Buy 2 days get 2 days free), Universal will credit them at their promo price as a 2 day ticket. Thus these are not great for bridging.

Also if you go to Volcano Bay, You can then only upgrade to the 3 park AP.

You can, and I’ve done it. However, I'm not sure how much I really saved. The online UO prices are lower than the gate prices, and I think when you upgrade it’s to the gate prices.

Come to think of it, I’m not certain. I know it’s true of tickets, and I think I was told it’s higher at the gate for passes. I remember the upgrade price was more than I thought it was going to be, but that might have been a matter of taxes throwing off my calculations. Maybe someone with more definite knowledge than I can chime in.
