Just a note to all those looking for better airfare..

Airtrans has lowered some fares to Orlando...

Philly to Orlando - $164 Round Trip
Boston to Orlando - $204 Round Trip

I saw this on an Orbitz fare update but it is probably available on the Airtrans website too...

Just in case anyone is interested..

Stay away from Air Tran. We just got back from a trip on them. The trip down was fine (on time and no problems what so ever). The trip home was a nightmare.

There was bad weather in Atlanta and our flight out of Tampa was delayed 4 hours. All the time they said our connection would be held for us because there were 26 people on the flight going into Newark. Well it wasn't. We were then told that the next flight they could get us on was Tuesday evening (it was Saturday night). We had to pay for a hotel Saturday night. We had then put us on a flight to Baltimore Sunday morning and then rent a car and drive home to north Jersey. There was no compensation offered.

We intend to send them all our bills and see if they will make good on them. It cost us approximately $200 because they couldn't get us another flight out.

I also forgot to mention that when we tried to get our luggage to go to the hotel it took them 2 1/2 hours to find it. They said they thought it was at the transfer station to be put on the 10:00 pm flight to Newark. I said how can you put our bags on the flight when we aren't scheduled to be on that flight? They didn't know.

There were 80 people on our flight going to Buffalo. When they got the gate for their connection the door was closed and they wouldn't open it for them. BUT their luggage was on the flight - so they had no luggage for their night in Atlanta. I'm not sure when they were told they could leave.

I have never had a problem with AirTran, but then I had a horrible time with DELL Computers and everyone else loves them.
Watching Airline on A&E has caused me to never want to fly SouthWest.
For a $ 44.00 flight to MCO, I will stick with Airtran.

I never saw it, could you tell me why you wouldn't fly with them?

Sounds like you have had a bad experience Star....I have flown Airtrans to other destinations ( first time to Orlando ) and have never had a problem.

I will say that during severe weather and unforseen events, the airlines can only do what they can to try to remedy the situation as much as possible, which I am sure is no comfort to you when you are stuck in a city.

I have had bad experience on other airlines as well...United and Delta to name two..but I will still fly them...If you travel enough, stuff like that is going to happen.

Well good luck to you. I think there should be some kind of regulation that an airline should get you to your agreed upon destination within 24 hours. It is absurd to tell someone they have to wait 3 days to get where they promised. What if someone was on medication and only had enough for an extra day?

Actually, watching that show has made me more likely to fly Southwest...What I see on that show is that they seem to go out of their way to try to accomodate every passenger...Some of the more unreasonable requests cannot be honored but that is true of any airline...People who get sloshed where they can hardly walk and want to get on a plane, stuff like that...I would want them to deny boarding to those type of people...

They also dont hide some of the mistakes that they make and seem to do what they can to make them right...

I will agree that is sounds extraordinary....I have never had problems with an airline like that where I was not offered some sort of travel voucher or something out of the deal, usually for a couple of hundred dollars...Did you request any type of compensation? Usually its better to negotiate compensation while 30 or so upset passengers are staring the supervisor in the face...while you are still at the airport...once you leave and are on your way, the odds of getting compensated are not good..

Sorry..didnt mean to turn this into a thread debating airlines...I just saw some good rates and thought I would point them out to whoever was interested...

:)

The people at the desk were giving all kinds of conflicting information. They said you had to call a toll free number to make travel arrangements. The people at the number said you had to speak to the agent at the gate. DH was told there was nothing we could get because it was "weather related". They were so confused and getting nasty (I wonder why...). The only compensation was a voucher with a toll free number for a discounted hotel room. That was all they said they had and take it or leave it.

I am sure I would be pretty soured on Airtran if I had this experience too...I have never heard of an airline doing that before....
