Discount Ticket Question / FP+

I am an Annual Passholder, so I know next to nothing about My Way ticketing.

That being said, I have a friend going to Disney who is looking for discounted tickets to Disney Parks.

Are there any places where purchasing discounted tickets are possible?

Oh, my friends are staying off-site.

Is it safe to assume that their ability to make any FP+ reservations is limited to when they are in the Parks?

In other words, I assume they cannot make any FP+ reservations prior to arriving in the Park(s)?

There are a couple of authorized discount ticket websites with Undercover Tourist being the favorite among them. If your friends link their tickets to their MDE account(s) they'll be able to book FP+ 30 days in advance (whereas onsite is 60 days in advance).

I found The Official Ticket Center with the touring plans discount was the cheapest for what we needed. I have the tickets all linked up in my MDE and ready to go for when I get to 30 days so I can book my FP+.

I purchased my tickets through Ebates/CheapTickets in January. A 5 day hopper was $344 on CheapTickets, with $24 back from Ebates, making it $320. The Disney code showed up in my CheapTickets account just a few days after purchasing. I was able to enter it in MDE and make my FP+ reservations 30 days in advance with no problems.

I highly, highly recommend Undercover Tourist - have your friends sign up for the Mousesavers newsletter to get the additional savings. I ordered them online and had them shipped to me (although you also have the option to have them emailed to you if you're crunched for time).

As long as your friends set up a MDE account, they just need to add the park tickets and assign it to someone in the group to make their Fastpass+ reservations. I found adding my tickets to be very, very easy. As PPs mentioned, they can make them one day at a time, 30 days before each park day.
