We booked two rooms for our family of 4 for our Central Europe trip this July. A few months prior, we were contacted and asked if we would mind sharing a room at the hotel in Bertchesgaden. They indicated we would be upgraded. We had a beautiful room that was larger than the one my inlaws had. We had a fireplace, and plenty of room for the roll away and sofa bed. We did miss the second bathroom for the nights we were at that hotel but it was fun all bunking together for a few nights. It turns out the hotel was definitely over booked. One family objected to being put in one room (not clear if they were asked first), and so the guides gave up their room and stayed in another hotel.
We had connecting (with interior doors) rooms in Prague and Vienna.
We received a costco rebate card for each of the rooms as we had it under two separate reservations.
