I have a deluxe room at the WL booked already. If ap rates do come out to i have to have an ap in hand to use the discount? I'm uncertain if i want to buy annual passes or not (not sure about timing for next year, oh Lord i can't believe i'm thinking about next year when i haven't even been on this years trip yet roflmao) but i digress. Do i need the ap in hand and if i do decide to buy one where can i get them? can i buy online at disney.com?

Yes, you need either the ap itself or the ap voucher. I know of a person who was charged rack rate for their stay when they couldn't produce the ap at check-in.

If you don't have it on you when you check in, neither an AP nor a voucher, and the CM wants to see it, they'll let you check-in, go buy one, then come back and show them when you get back to the resort. If you don't show them the AP during your stay, they'll charge you rack rate. Of course, they don't always ask to see it anyway, but when they do, they allow you to buy one that day. After all, not all of us buy our tickets in advance, I always see plenty of people in line at the parks to purchase them.

What happens if you only have a voucher?

For my trip last month, I booked 4 rooms at Coronado Springs on my annual passholder. I checked in Xmas night for two rooms and the rest of the party checked in the next day for the other two rooms. Believe it or not, nobody was asked to show an annual pass. My DD11 and I were the only two who had annual passes. The front desk even ended up adding my friend's name to the reservation for the other two rooms so that they could check in without me. I was very surprised! Not only did I not have to produce a valid annual pass, but I was also under the impression that you could only book 3 rooms on an annual passholder and I booked 4.

One never knows.

You don't need to have the AP when you call to apply the AP discount to your rates, just when you check in. You can wait to make sure you can get the discount, then buy the AP.

You know what. I'm pretty sure they have that you bought an AP in the computer. Any time I have called CRO or at the front desk at check in they ask for my Phone number. I even think thay asked for my phone number when I bought the AP voucher from the Disney store. It is kind of used as your social security number along with your name at Disney to track all your reservations.

Just my Thoughts

can someone help me with this since I'm so new at it.
We are planning on going in the beginning or middle of November. It's just my husband and myself and we are planning on staying at the Yacht club. Is it worth it to me to buy an AP and try to get a discount? We will be staying 5 nights. I'm quite sure we will not be going back to disney within a year to use it again.
What do you think ?

I would wait and see what the AP rates for the Yacht Club will be that time of year before I would purchase the AP since you'll be there 5 days so it's not really worth it just for that. You don't need the AP when you book, only when you check-in, so if the rates are good and you'll save enough money to make the difference between the AP and whatever other pass you'd buy worth it, then do it. Otherwise, you can just get regular park hoppers and possibly use a general code.
