Discount codes at CSR?

I am usually pretty cautious when I book my resort. I Book a value and hope that there is a discount rate that comes up and only then will I upgrade to a moderate and sometimes not even then. Well I haven't ever been to CSR and I would really like to give it a try. My TA however said that it is hard to get a discount rate there and that if I wanted to save $$$ (which of course I do) I would probably have to move to a different resort.

What has our experience been with getting a discount rate and finding availability at CSR (we will need 2 roooms due to our party of 7)? Do you think it is worth booking CSR taking the chance that even if a discount rate comes out and we don't have availability thus keeping us at the AAA rate? I guess what I am trying to figure out is what do you think is CSR really worth it or should I just book ASMu hoping for a code and then try to upgrade to CSR and if not then decide to stay at a value or got to POR?

OK I know that was a bit of a messy way of explaining things but maybe some one will understand what I am saying and give me their input...

I just checked CSR earlier today for January (am still debating our resort choice at times) and, while we would have had to do water view, there was availability. Good luck, and hope you are able to find something!

I've stayed at CSR three times in the last 12 months and will be back there again in Dec. I have always gotten a discount there. I also stayed there several years ago with a discount. I travel to WDW several times a year and my experience has been that POFQ is the hardest to get a discount at, due it being so small. WDW only releases so many room for each discount and since POFQ is so small, it seems like they go faster than the others. I have stayed at CSR with an AP discount and also free dining. During those times there has also always been a general public discount offered. My AP discount just always beat it, so I use that. I've been there in May (twice), Sept/Oct, and this will be my third Dec trip there. I have a friend here on the DIS that loves CSR and stays there several times a year. I know she's always gotten a discount. You might want to post this question over on the CSR thread.

Don't know if you are aware of it, but since their recent rehab CSR does charge $10.00 more/night than the other moderates, but they are the only moderate that have queen size beds, a healthclub/spa, and have the biggest hot tub on property. Also their lounge is adults only after certain hours. They also have the best bus service of any WDW I've ever stayed at (and that includes the Deluxes and Values). I also like that you can refill your mug at Rix Cafe, Pepper Market, or the pool bar. I love CSR, but one thing I don't like is that starting Jan 1st, they are going to start having a preferred room booking category and so rooms closer to the main pool and the main building are going to cost a little more (of course the Values and CBR already had this category and PORS is also adding it after the first of the year).

I booked a room with a discount last night for December, so it is totally possible.

Thanks for the responses. It is encouraging to hear that there isat least a possibility of a discount. I never book moderate initially, I always upgrade from a value but I have been thinking that if I really want to stay at CSR withthe AAA and hope that a discount rate comes down the road so that I am at least sure that I have ressies there. It looks like a beautiful resort. I hate spending money on lodging! LOL

The thing is, discount availability is usually tied to occupancy levels. Since CSR is a convention resort, their occupancy levels are often high enough due to groups that discounts are harder to find than at the non-convention moderates.

We're having that problem right now - March will be our last trip as a family of 4 in Disney's eyes and we'd like to try CSR before DD turns 3 and puts us over the occupancy limit, but right now there are no discounts available for our dates and I don't want CSR badly enough to pass up the free dining we'd get at any other resort.

I get w hat you are saying about passing up the free dining. If that was available for us I sure wouldn't pass it up. Did the math from this last trip and up until now free dining wouldnt have been a value but with teens now it is. Unfortuantely free dininging isn;t being offered during our dates which are currently 27 June to 12 July. I do know that for 4 days there is a convention that is already posted to be staying there. The issue for me is I have 4 kids three adults so we are looking at two rooms anyway. My oldest is a sophomore so in reality there are not many more long family trips we will likely be taking all of us together. So this is where I am torn. He would really like to go to CSR (as would I) and I am kind of torn between just saying go for it and if you don't get s discount just think of the value in memories or going to Asmu and saving the money and hoping for a code that we can maybe upgrade to a mod hopefully being CSR. Knowing that probably if I don't already have a room booked there I may not be able to get one over there at all at that point. We could go to POR (already been to POFQ and liked it just we are looking for a resort we haven't been to). Sigh I am terrible at making these decisions.
