I'm going to disney with a group of 14 - one of them has the discount card they got through dvc - although we know it can only be used for 10 (so we'll be using it on the adults mostly), what we don't know is if (a) we can get separate checks at the table (four families) and still use the discount; or (b) have to get one check, but can use more than one credit card to pay for the bill. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's the Tables in Wonderland, and it's for annual passholders, not DVC.

No, you will not be able to apply the discount to different checks. The discount is limited to the cardholder plus nine other persons, and all their meals must be on one check.

Every once in awhile I have had a server who agrees to apply the discount to separate checks - but haven't had that happen when there were more than 10 persons in the party.

thanks - do you know if we can use separate credit cards on the one check?

it depends on the server but I would not count on it. It states on the rules of the card that it must include the meal of the cardholder and it can not be split between checks so it is uncommon that they would allow this.

You can plan to each take turns picking up those meals or have a majority of people bring cash and hand over the cash to the person using the card.

However, IIRC you can get the server to run 2 checks and apply the TIW to the check that includes the passholder.

Basically one check would be for 10 people (including the cardholder) and would get the TIW discount. The other check would be for the remaining 4. Both checks would have gratuity automatically included.

I haven't traveled with this large a group in awhile so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I think they want to split the bills into one check for each family.

But if persons from different families want to be covered by the TIW, they need to plan for all those meals to be on one check (along with the cardholder).

It doesn't matter who pays for it in my experience - but no, they won't allow splitting the payment. There was at least one restaurant where my party was told specifically we could not use two separate credit cards on one TIW check.

The credit card used to pay the check has to be in the name of the person who owns the TIW card. No bill splitting. Period. They even charge a fee to get a TIW in your spouse's name, so no marital sharing! I have also been asked to produce a drivers license to prove I was the TIW owner - at Le Chefs de France - and I have been told at several other places that a manager has to approve the discount. It's a great discount, but they follow the rules pretty strictly.

True! I have TiW and was dining with some fellow DISers last month who all had the DDP. At a couple of restaurants we used my TiW to get one of them an appetizer and each time, the waiter said he had to place it on my bill and then the other person just paid me cash. They said they were not allowed to issue two bills.

I have held DDE/TiW for several years. It is all one check. However, once the discounted check is provided I have always seen the servers willing to accept multiple cards, but we had to tell the specific amount for each individual card.

In my experience they will accept someone else's credit card - there has never been an instance where they told me I had to be the one to pay the bill, just a couple of weeks ago Via Napoli accepted my dad's credit card and my TIW - but not multiple cards or split checks. Although Raglan Road did agree to apply my discount to multiple checks once (6 diners).

I have been asked a couple of

Very much not my experience.

I have the TIW card, I have a different last name than my husband, and he was the one plunking down the payment card almost the whole time during our December and September trips. Especially b/c I completely lost my card somewhere along the line and couldn't have paid if I wanted to!

And yes, each time they have to show it to the manager, but that is done separately from actually paying, most of the time, in my experience.
