I was wondering if anyone out there has faced this or has a family member with it.
About two months ago I had a painful red spot near the tip my nose appear. It's continued to grow around the original spot and is now about an inch in diameter. It's red, scaley and mildly sore.
I went to my GP after about 10 days and was put on my first batch of antibiotics, followed by a different one five days later when there was no improvement. I then went to the dermatologist who prescribed a heavy duty cortisone cream for 8 days (the spot still grew), followed by 9 days on prednisone. It's now worse than ever, and has gone from slightly noticeable to all my friends commenting on it when they see me (it looks like it's been scraped up and they think I've injured myself
).
I've had my bloodwork done and the ANA test came back negative, but my complement C4 level was low. From what I've read online, this seems to suggests that I don't have systemic lupus (thankfully!). The dermatologist (and the three other dermos he called in to consult) still think, though, that it looks like a discoid lesion.
I have a biopsy scheduled for Tuesday which will hopefully give me a more definitive diagnosis.
So...has anyone here been through this? Can you give me an idea of what I should expect? I don't know of any friends or family with lupus (either systemic or cutaneous) and I'm feeling a bit lost.
