hi! this will be my first flight, and i'm going to try so hard to be a "good" flyer :teeth: , but i want to bring my discman to play my relaxation & "anti-panic attack" cds for the flight if i need them.

what exactly are the rules about these being on? are there any ways around these rules if i REALLY NEED them??

if i can't have them on during take off and/or landing, why?? just curious

thanks a bunch!!

Here's an explanation from United's website (this is from United, but most airlines have the same info/requirements):

"Certain electronic devices may not be used on our planes for safety reasons. Such devices may cause electromagnetic interference with cockpit navigation or communications systems during ground operations and while the aircraft is flying below 10,000 feet. However, when an aircraft is traveling above 10,000 feet (normally about ten minutes after takeoff), passengers can use many of the devices listed.

These electronic devices can be used in the cabin, but may not be used during takeoff and landing:
Calculators
Handheld computer games
Shavers
Portable CD and tape players
Laptop computers/accessory printers/tape drives
Portable VCRs/video players"

Well said. Southwest Airlines will tell you, anything with an on/off switch must be off. Too bad this is the most stressful time for those w/fear of flying

At least you can listen to your anti-anxiety CDs up until the time they tell you to turn your Discman off - shortly before take-off - and they'll tell you as soon as you can turn it back on.

Yep, have it on until you taxi to the runway and have it ready when they make the announcement that it is ok again.....

thanks everyone! thats what i will do....i wouldn't want to mess with the planes cockpit navigation or communications systems !! :sad2: that wouldn't do much in helping me stay calm, now would it?! :lmao:

thanks again!! :goodvibes
