I figured out the multi-quote thing, but how do some of you get the pictures that were big to be mini-sized in the quotes?

This is the skirt I make the most. Its the simplest and Georgia loves it. But i want to try something a little more challenging and not as simple... But I am pretty new to sewing still. what would you suggest?

Great outfit!

:cheer2: :cheer2: for her!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I woke Emma up at 6:30 and she was dry    We were so excited! I walked in there with a clean sheet in hand ready for the mess, and there was none!!!!!!!! She is doing wonderful and loves going potty... She hasn't let me forget about Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique either!

WTG Emma!!!!!!!! It sounds like she is on the road to potty success! And, with a trip to BBB who wouldn't be!!!

About a week or so ago someone (a person that when I read her posts reminds me of me and my sis, as we are sooo close and are even on some sites together) mentioned this thread to me. I am new here, but actually read some of the posts on the other threads wayyyy before I registered. So glad I was told about this thread...it seems everyone here is so kindddddddd. I have enjoyed reading about everyone and their families. I have a WONDERFUL husband and 2 super children, but of course, I have my issues so this site is a great distraction. I belong to some other sites that are funn, but must admit this is the warmest thread I have ever seen.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
I have never seen such great women in my life....wow, I would love to be as creative as u all. Every single thing I have seen it beautiful. I keep showing my DD (8) everything I see...she wants it all!!!

I did some sewing in hs, and loved it. And then a few years after hs bought a sewing maching....which was approx 1990 And u guessed it, I have barely touched it since. :confused3

:cutie: Well Anyway Great Work everyone!!! :cutie:

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning. So admist all of the great stuff that has been posted lately I am going to be brave and show you my first sewing projects. I made these PJ pants for Ds Jake. I love this pirate fabric. Its so cute for a little boy. I actually made pj pants for the whole family but I dont have a pic of all of them.

Then I made thie tiered skirt last night from the Sewing for Dummies pattern 4206. I saw someone was talking about it earlier and I got it at my Joann's just last week. They had several so if anyone needs it I could pick it up for them.

We are on the way out the door to gymnastics so you get a leotard in the picture!

I was so intimidatied by the little gathering you had to do but I think it turned out ok. I actually used the $1.00 fabric from Wal-Mart to test my work on since it was the first one I had done. I was going to make a valentine skirt if it turned out alright. Dd7 Morgan absolutely loves this fabric so its a keeper! I'll still make the valentine skirt with it. tonight I might attempt the peasant top!

They look great! I love to make pj pants! And I haven't tried my hand at one of those skirts yet -- haven't worked up my nerve yet!

I figured out the multi-quote thing, but how do some of you get the pictures that were big to be mini-sized in the quotes?

In the image code, you type th_ in front of the actual name of the picture that is at the end of the code before the end quote.

I hope I explained that right!

Heather has a tutorial for this on the first page as well. Probably better explained than mine!

I have been known to do it myself, so don't worry about it! And, like I said, Mom does it ALL the time!

I made it there and back safely!! Corey spent the night at Mom's tonight, and as we were driving home, Arminda started laughing and said, "I'm playing a trick on Corey!" When I asked what, she said "I took his Ipod from Grandma's!" SOOOOOOO....... I had to turn the van around and drive BACK to my Mom's to give Corey his Ipod! Thankfully we were only a few miles down the road!

I got a letter in the mail today from Tessa and Sawyer!!!! It was so cute!!! Tessa acutally wrote "I love you Aunt Teresa" on it!!! She has very good penminship for a four year old!! I should scan it and show you all! And, Sawyer drew me a pictutre!! :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc Am I a lucky Aunt or what!!!

Glad you made the trip safely and how sweet are your niece and nephew!

She is a DOLL! I like this skirt, do you mind sharing the pattern!
Great fabric!!! :thumbsup2 I am not sure if anyone answered you yet but I usually measure the waist and at least double it. For a dress I am pretty sure you do the same thing. You just gather it and attach it to the top of the dress. For a skirt you just gather it and attach it to a waist band. For example my DD4 is about a 22 inch waist and I cut the waist band at 45 inches long, since I include an inch for the seam allowance. I cut it about 6 inches wide so I have enough to fold over and make a casing for the elastic and attach the bottom of the skirt too. Hope this helps!!!! ;)

WELCOME! Get out that machine and just start sewing! I have only been teaching myself to sew since around August or Sept, so if I can do it anybody can!

   YEAH EMMA!   Glad she is doing so well!!!!

And CONGRATS to the person who got the part time job! Sorry I don't remember who but I lost that quote!

I am in the middle of making Parker an outfit. My plan was to make it for Valentine's but I didn't want it to be total Valentine so she could get lots of wear out of it. Since the girl has becomed obsessed with High School Musical and Troy, my original idea was for the skirt and a l/s tee that said "I Love Troy". I have the skirt almost finished but I can't decide what else to do with it.

Here's the skirt:

HSMskirt.jpg

Both of the materials have sparkly glitter to them. I stole the idea for the skirt from the one that Aimee just did. I had planned on making some bias tape out of the white to put on the pink part but now I don't even think it will show up. I'm curious as to what some silver ric-rac (if they even make it) would look like on it.

What do you all think? Ideas anyone?

tadamom - What color shirt are you doing with the skirt? I would suggest using a light pink shirt and match the bias tape to the shirt.

OK, I have some pictures of the complete outfits for our trip ready. DH has the camera so I can't take the rest yet. My question to everyone is...do you want to see what I have planned now and wait for the cruise outfits (I haven't taken those yet) or should I post later in the week when I can post everything all at once? I'm getting sooo exccited!! Is it too early to start packing? Will the outfits get wrinkled if I pack now?

Kell, I remember that princess skirt! I think you should try a twirl skirt. It's super simple. You just make the top layer twice her waist length, 2nd row twice the 1st, and 3rd twice the 2nd. Gather and stitch them all together, put elastic in the waist and that's it! Very simple and she'll love it.

Thanks that makes perfect sense, and why I didn't think of it, um yeah I am not sure. haha But thank you! maybe after work tonight I will actually get to sew! Since Dd is at my inlaws for the weekend.

This is so cute! What pattern do you use? I would try a twirl skirt, but they are not necessarily more challenging.

The pattern is McCalls M5133

funny I just looked for the pattern and saw it has a pattern in it for a twirly type skirt too. haha there are three different skirt styles in the pattern.

I was originally going to use a white shirt and doing some type of applique with the hot pink material. The only other shirt I have is a blushy colored pink and I'm not sure it will look good with it. I also bought her some hot pink leggings to wear under it when it is cool.

What a cute outfit!! Love the bling on the shirt!

Ooops! I did it, I called Tessa Lydia! :headache: Well, at least I didn't call her Sawyer! I call the kids the wrong names all the time, even called Megan the dog's name!

Of course Tessa and Sawyer can come too! I'm sure they would all have a great time! Megan's handwriting is sooo bad, but that's what kindergarten is for, right?

I love the Valentine's outfit! Great job on the appliqué!
That's okay! I mix up my own kid's names sometimes. I also call them both by the dog's names, and the dogs by the kid's names, and the dogs by each other's names.

Hey, how'd you put an "accent agu" (have no idea if that is spelled right) on top of your e?

:welcome:!!!!!! So glad to have you here! Was it my sister , Tereajoy, who mentioned this thread to you? This is a pretty wonderful group of women here! No one gets snarky or competitive, they're just really supportive and nice! I had a Singer sewing machine circa 1990 that just died on me. But, it was a good machine!

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it??? I'm so tired of rethreading every thirty seconds :headache: - it's not fun anymore?!
I'm wondering if your bobbin thread is getting caught up or something. I would try putting in a different bobbin and see if that works. Plus, rethread the whole machine.

Hi Everyone, Happy Saturday!!

OK - I have tried and tried with this darn ruffler, and its just so hit or miss for me. Would someone be able to share their settings with me for a twirl skirt that I made each tier 1.5 times bigger and one that I made 2x bigger (each tear doubled)????? Please?????

Thanks so much, Wendy

Since you asked so nicely, I went and checked. My old Singer would reduce the fabric length to apprximately 1/2 when set at 4.0 for the stitch length, 0 for the stitch depth, and set to 1 (ruffle once for every stitch). To get a ratio of 1/3, I set it at a stitch length of 2.5, a stitch depth of 1, and set to 1 (ruffle once for every stitch). If this doesn't make any sense, I understand! If you haven't optimized your ruffler, I highly recommend doing it! CarlaC wrote a great tutorial that is free on youcanmakethis.com.

Wow, TERRIFIC job!! I think these both look great! I was scared to gather at first, too. So, I understand. Some of the $1.00 fabric at WalMart is pretty nice, you just have to dig to find it. I like the fabric you used, very pretty!

I figured out the multi-quote thing, but how do some of you get the pictures that were big to be mini-sized in the quotes?
There's a tutorial in the first post of this thread that should help! I've been waiting to refer someone back to it! Thanks!:thumbsup2

That looks like the same fabric I used for Tessa's Cinderella dress. It's very pretty! I like the skirt and I love the idea of using silver ric-rac. I have some gold ric-rac, so I bet they make silver.

I went and found some of the silver sequin trim that I used on Parker's princess dress for Halloween and I thought it looked really cute. I think I am going to go look for silver ric-rac this afternoon.

They must have been a new arrival because they were really thick bolts and one still had a piece of masking tape on it. They were in the Novelty cotton section. Not on sale, unfortunately, regular price of $8.99 a yard :scared1: but since I was only going to make one skirt...not too bad!! At least all 5 of my DGDs are not on a cheer squad..:lmao: :rotfl2: Nana
