I went to Wal-Mart and came away disappointed. I did get an Ariel Pillow Case and I decided to applique her to a Blue Peasant top.

But they didn't have any Hannah Montana fabric. I really liked the skirt with the Hannah Montana and the butterflies.:) :cool2: :hippie:

OMG - what fantastic stuff you have all made, I have my dd3 sitting with me saying "oh wow, mum, so booful - I have it":cutie:

AimeeG your stuff is absolutely stunning - DD saw the snow white and belle cocktail skirts and immediately told me that it was snow white and belle.

What a lovely bunch you all are with the pixiedust love being spread - I'm so glad I found this place :lovestruc

I'm having so much fun planning outfits - I'm wondering if we will need to extend our stay because I've seen far more outfits that I *have* to case tha days we have away :rolleyes1

We don't get snow in Auckland where I live so I'm so jealous of all that white beauty - though I think we might take the girls down to the mountains this year so they can see snow for the first time :)

I think she she she used a sheet (bedding) for that Hannah Montana Fabric. I could be wrong, but I still think its a good idea!

I went to my Wal-Mart yesterday and they had the Hannah Montana fabric -- it was the sateen shiney stuff. I don't like working with it and I have too many other projects to do so I didn't buy any.

My Wal-Mart had some if you would like I could pick you up some and send it. PM if you want.

ETA This one was the regular cotton with the HM logo and butterflies that was in the skirt. They also had the flannel and the sateen stuff but I didnt get that one. Scared me to try to sew with it!

I just ordered 7 yards of Minnie mouse red with white dots fabric off of e-bay. I can't wait till I get it to start making something! I still have to make DD8 a ornge and white skirt like I made my niece and I have some Tinker bell fabric and some ariel fabric to make some skirts with. I also have some Lightning McQueen fabric to make applique t-shirts for the boys (including DH he loves mater!) then I have to make the shirts for all the skirts I am making. Yeah I have a lot of work to do in 17 days lol!

Oh yeah I too am looking for Hannah montana fabric for my niece and DD8 lol! I can't wait to finish all of this. I just don't know what I am going to do once our trip is done and there is no need for sewing new skirts! lol!

I have a few newbie questions:

How do I keep the string from coming out of the needle - seems to happen every few minutes, and it is driving me nuts having to re thread it over and over. . .

What causes the needles to break or bend??

Also, I have noticed the threading around your appliqué's - what kind of setting is that???? seems like all I can do is zig-zag's or button holes. . . the machine says it can do 30differed ways, but I dunno. . .

THANKS

OK - here goes my first attempt at a multiquote...

Tom, those are absolute perfection! I love how you did it with the single layer ruffles, too. It gives such a light and sweet look! Your little princess is so lucky to have a daddy who is such a talented sewist!

Hey Carla,

I want to buy some of your ebooks but I have a question. If I buy them are they downloaded to your computers hard drive?

I ask because I am at work right now and I just about bought a few of your ebooks and stopped myself thinking how unhelpful that would be when I sew and home lol!

YCMT has a great new "my library" feature! Basically, you can access all the eBooks you have purchased right from the site when you log into your account. If you buy something at work, you can just go to "my library" and download it when you get home. I love it because I'm always forgetting where I saved my files on my completely disorganized hard drive!

Thanks for the advice Tom. I will try that! I adore both of these tops - WOW!!

That brings me to a question for Carla. I really love all the tops and dresses that everyone has made with your peasant pattern, but I haven't purchased it because my DD needs a size 10 for a top. Do you think I'd be able to work off your pattern and increase it on my own to a bigger size?

Hmmm, I think it could be enlarged pretty easily. If you get it, let me know and I will help you get it to the right size.

how did you hear about our board?
I have a good friend who used to come around here. Her little daughter is one of my models, in fact :) . Anyway, one day she IM'd the link and said "hey - they are talking about your jumper pattern!" So I had to check it out, of course. I've been hooked ever since! I really enjoy seeing what people are making, and it is very helpful for me to know what types of sewing issues people are having so I can hopefully address them in my eBooks :thumbsup2 !

I find when my thread somes out of the needle 99% of the time my top spool has fallen off then spool holder kwim? I found putting sticky tack on the spool holder keeps the spool from falling off and pulling out the tread from the needle.

I guess it depends on exactly what is happening when your thred is comming out of the needle.

I have only had 2 needles bend and they were both on the same project (Flannel pj's) I think my fabric was too thick and I got a little over zealous (actually that is when my children first started to hear the f-bombs flying out of my mouth lol)

I found that using the zig zag stitch on the tightest setting can get you that look but it takes a lot of patience and time to get it done. Maybe there is a better way?

When I applique I set the stitch length to 0 on my Singer and anywhere between .2-.8 on the Viking. You adjust your width to whatever size you want. Around Mickey's I like to use the width of 3. :)The stitch is a satin or zig zag stitch depending on your machine.

For the thread just leave your tail longer. I had that problem on my old machine too.

Just thought I would share with all of you what I got at the Disney Store today. It's not clothing but some of you might want to see if your nearest store has them -- they don't have them online.

These are reusable shopping bags made of 100% polypropolene. I put an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper next to them for you to see how big they are. On the inside, the sheet of paper was just shy of fitting exactly into it.

I thought they were the cutest thing and I plan on putting them up to use for the kids goodie bags on our next trip. Unless I cave and use them for a holiday goodie bag instead.

The best part about these bags is they were only $2.50 -- regular price! My mall was doing a promotion and had an extra 15% off coupon, so I got them for $2.13!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought all they had left (6 of them) and quite a few other customers were pretty upset that I had snatched them all. The CM said they were hoping to be getting some more in soon!! Also, they had almost all of the clearance stuff an additional 50% off too! I got some washcloths for .99 and some plush things for $1.50! Can't beat that!

Just thought I would share!

- You have to hold the thread behind the needle under your pressfoot. Then when the wheel turns it won't pull from the needle, but from the spool.

- The needle will break/bend when you don't have enough tension (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

- I've just started the applique technique and I use the zigzag stitch very slowly - stitch width of about 3. Practice on spare fabric, draw a line and see what stitch method works best for you.

I got my Hannah Montana cotton fabric (pink with butterflies) at Hancock's.

I still need to find tee shirts. It is a bit cold in our neck of the woods so they have not come out in stores yet. I keep checking ON, Target and Walmart with no luck. It is going to suck when I am appliqueing 12 tee shirts three days before we leave!

That is really cute...where did you find the Monster, Inc fabric? I haven't never seen them at Hancock, Joanns or Walmart.

We were in WDW Wed Jan 23 to Mon Jan 28. It was not a good trip. :headache:

A little back story: We were there in Sept 2007, just the three of us and we had a fabulous trip. Lauren loved everything - the rides, the characters, the parades. She talked about the trip for weeks after. Her favorites were Small World and TTA.

Flash forward a few months, DH has a business trip to Orlando in Jan 2008. We decide since Sept was such a success why not go again. My mother and the In-laws decide to join us since they heard us blab about how much fun we had in Sept.

Well, let me tell you 4 months makes a huge difference with a preschooler/toddler. Lauren was a tantrum-throwing nightmare. She actually cried on Small World - WHO CRIES ON SMALL WORLD???:scared: :scared: :scared: She did not want to see any characters, even though we had 2 character meals.:headache: :headache: :headache: All she wanted to do was play hide and seek at the playground at the hotel.

Add to all of that, it was cold! OK, it was warmer than home but it was still colder than I was hoping for. We wore sweatshirts every day so you could not even see the custom outfits I made for Lauren. (I'll post photos once I upload them off the camera.) Low to mid 50's in the am and maybe the mid to upper 60's in the afternoon.

I guess I am just so disappointed in how the trip played out. Lauren and I "fought" every morning about getting dressed (she did not want to wear the things I made her) and having her hair done (I barely combed it never mind but in the bows I made). It was helpful to have more adults around; my mother took Lauren back to the hotel 2 afternoons so DH and I could have some fun in the parks. It will be a while before I consider another trip to WDW.:upsidedow

I am so sorry your trip didn't go as planned. Those 4 year old (I have one too!) can be so unpredictable.
