Castle - tell me about the hats on the on the letters. Did you applique those? Would you share the pattern?

This was an outfit I posted before we closed down..

I totally CASEd this from a :wizard: seller...LOL

Elisa, I know you said you don't like Ireland's bangs, but I think she looks adorable!!!

I also love this outfit!!! It turned out fantastic!!!

Just saw this posted by the mod for this board - it's a quote from the webmaster. Looks like we'll have the thread back tonight. Woo Hoo!

From WebmasterAlex:

We need to evaluate the effect the "long threads" are having on board performance. In order to do that we will be "hiding" the long threads for 24 hours. They will come back so no need to panic
I will be shutting the boards down around 11pm to move the threads around and make some other changes.
If you are a participant in one of these threads please feel free to start another thread tomorrow.
A long thread will be over 10,000 posts for the purpose of this experiment

Can I ask how you ruffle? I know it sounds dumb, but I'm going to try it on the bottom of a shirt and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.:confused3

You gather the material, there are some tutorials in my bookmarks on different methods of doing that.

Well, I'm subbing to this thread too just in case. I'm glad I got caught up yesterday. I'm sure I missed anything that was posted after about 7 pm but at least I was most of the way there.

I'm going to have to run down to Wally World and see if ours is clearing out fabric. I was just there and bought some of that cute pink Dora fabric. I almost hope it's not on clearance because I'll be miffed that I paid full price last week for it. :)

I've got to start sewing, I've got some stuff to do for a birthday party DD is going to on the 9th and a Valentine's outfit. I also need to start sewing for our trip in June. I finally got the deposit down on it. DD still doesn't know we're going to her birthday, I've got to figure out how to sew without her asking me what's going on all the time. :)

I just found some cute Valentine's fabric from last year and we'll see if I can find something else to go with it for a tiered twirly skirt. I ordered DD the cutest pettiskirt on Voldemort, it's red with white ruffles at the bottom, she loves it. I got a good deal on it and she LOVES it. She's been putting it on and twirling around in it. I just have to make a few things to go with it. I really want to make a corset top, I'm a little nervous about the whole shirring thing...

I'm off to go get us out of the house for a bit. We were in most of the day yesterday so we could use a walk around for a bit.

Castle, I love that outfit! Are you using a pattern or are you making your own? I need to make a larger bodice on my twirl tops and was looking for a pattern, I wasn't sure I would be able to make my own.

Thanks!

Yes, the big giant thread of custom clothing should be back later today.

Perhaps it should be closed and the new thread continued with -- it was a pretty huge thread. What do you all think about that idea?

I found the new thread.

Ireland minnie set is wonderful.

I love the minnie with the cheetah bow. Darling!

The fabric stash and the $.99 price has me so jeallous. Way 2 go on the find. For that price you should get some to sell on the unmentionable site. :wizard:

Have a great day everyone.

I was so far behind on the "mother-thread" but thanks to a couple of little birdies, I've found the way.

I did get to see Heathers pink Cinderella a couple of nights ago and it's beautiful! My niece bought a blue beaded necklace at DTD in NOV that would go with it perfectly. I'll try to find out where. At 1900 PF for dinner, the step-mother asked her if she had taken it from Druzilla.(sp)

CASTLE- I haven't seen a picture of Ireland in a long time. She's really getting big and her hair is adorable. My DD wants bangs too. It makes them look older. We'll see who wins!

Even the doggies are getting customs now!!

I see I have started a trend with the intial tshirt nightgowns.;)

It is true! I have made three so far and have orders for four more! Thanks Tom!

I have to say this thread and it's Mother thread (i.e. the original one that's been dumped) was truely an inspiration for me!! I sewed pj pants for DH after hiding the fabric four years ago...yes you heard it 4 years ago. Tuesday I made the pants, today I'll finish the elastic and he'll be happy - 4 years in the making. Wednesday I whipped together a Scooby Doo pj dress for DD8 and after a quick visit to Joanne's yesterday, today I'm making sundresses for both girls.

I have to zip back to Walmart to get some fabric to make an Ariel applique for a white shirt (already have the matching fish fabric to make pants) and after the fabric post I'm hopeful that I'll find something with Disney on it for some other ideas.

It amazes me you all have the time for these things, but it definitely keeps you inspired. Thank you everyone for giving me that push off the couch and back to my sewing machine.

I think you have forgotten to post something: where are posts of your husband modeling the pants? You know there are specific poses he needs to do, right? :rotfl:

Seriously, we would love to see your work. I love looking to get ideas!

Oh, and at JoAnn's they have an Ariel applique ready to buy. I don't know if they have one close to you. It is big but cute!

Can I ask how you ruffle? I know it sounds dumb, but I'm going to try it on the bottom of a shirt and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.:confused3

I will tell you how I do it. It's not the fastest way, but it works for me. I use upholstery thread (thanks to Tom!) and run two basting stitches around the ruffle. Then I pin at the halfway and then quarter marks of the skirt and ruffle. Then I gather with my seam ripper and pin. After that, I run a zig zag stitch along both the skirt and ruffle edges, taking out the pins as I go. Then I take out all the basting stitches. I then stitch a seam inside the zig zag stitching. Iron the seams toward the skirt and topstich on the outside to make it nice and tidy.

Of course, as Teresa said there are instructions in her bookmarks. Many people swear by dental floss or elastic thread so you might want to try different methods and see which works for you!

I think closing the thread when it gets too long is fine. We just didn't want to lose all the cute outfits and helpful instructions that are contained in the thread.

Hello everyone!
Subbing just in case you decide to stick with the new thread.

1. LOVE the fabric stash - I bought some of the same fabrics yesterday at full price. But I guess that is fine as long as they DON'T shut down my W-M fabric departments!!!

2. LOVE the Minnie outfit. (and I thought it looked familiar from :wizard: )

Someone posted about going to the wrong place with new posts - is it taking you back to the same place every time? Another board I'm on always takes me back to the same "new" spot until I sign in again, even if I have visited the thread. Just an idea. Otherwise - it might just be acting wonky.

Umm. I'll try not to be a stranger - I met another DISBoutiquer on my trip in December - KarenTX. Are you still around? Your daughter is ADORABLE.

Ladies, I have to ask (and I also posted this on the arts and crafts thread) - how difficult is it to applique??? I know that sounds general, but I have a sewing machine, and I love to be creative - this will be probably the last time I'll have to "dress up" dd who will be 7 when we go in May. I'd love to attempt some similar creations, such as appliques and trims on jeans and tshirts, but I don't know where to begin!!!!!

It depends on what you mean by closed. Do you mean that it will be done away with? Or do you mean that it will be locked so that no new posts can be added? If the latter is the case, will the old post be stickied to the top for future reference? Or will it be in an archive so that we can access easily? Could we add a link to the original "mother thread" to first post of the new thread? If the solution involves in any way deleting the original thread, then I think it's a BAD IDEA!

Honesly, I don't understand how a long thread causes problems for the board. There are millions of thread here. How many are inactive and can be deleted? Is THAT part of the plan? Is there a "time out" feature that automatically deletes threads that have no response after a certain period of time? How much space would that free on the server? I just wonder if there can't be a better solution to the problem than blaming the server issue on very active threeads. Admittedly, I am not involved in any way with the upkeep of a message board. I don't know how it works. I'm just puzzled about this problem.

It's not incredibly difficult, but it does require practice. It's best to start with simple shapes with very little detail. Once you get started, you'll find yourself appliquing everything!

Doesn't matter to me - I think everything is saved in the photobucket account and the links on the first post. Not sure why we would need the old thread.

Hi ladies! I was very behind on the old thread, so while I feel bad that I may never "catch up" on what I missed, the new thread feels like a fresh new start.

:goodvibes I whipped this up for my little Dachshund

do you think these 2 were meant to coordinate? Flowers and stripes - are they okay????
th_100_0379.jpg

WOW!! What a great haul!! I love the flower and stripe together! (So much so that I may have to see if my Wal-Mart has it) I think it would make a great peasant top - flowered bodice and striped sleeves

My first twirl skirt and re used Minnie head on a tee

So cute! I'm pretty sure I've seen that on :wizard: and loved it. I don't know if it's the outfit or the hair, but Ireland looks really grown up in that pic!

I agree! :thumbsup2

I think Teresa has some great tutorials and instructions/explanation from the old thread in the bookmarks. They have some excellent advice. You should give it a try!!

Sorry , but am I the only one this irritates? I came back this morning to see what you guys thought of my newest creations, and I can't even access the old thread. Couldn't it just be a "sticky"???? Anyway, because I am a shameless wanna be sewer, here they are again

I don't know who made this, but does anybody know where to get the straps from? I was hoping to make a bag like this for DD. She needs to organize her junk that she keeps in my car.
I think people already answered this but it is sold on big spools by the yard.

It turned out great- you are quick!!!!
While the boards were down last night I took my scraps and made a twirly skirt do dd. I got all the fabric cut and sewn together. I just have to finish it and haven't decided if it "needs" a ruffle?!?!
I'm so glad we made a new place before went went into hiding otherwise what would we do with ourselves:lmao: :confused3 :sad1:

WWWAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

That's me mourning our old thread!! I haven't read through this new thread yet, I just wanted to express my sadness. I can't believe all of our silliness has been pushed into oblivioin. Plus, now I have to work my way to the top of the post count again! :rotfl:

Guess who jumped up on Mt fabric? Think she wants me to make her something?

:rotfl:

That is quite a stash! Our joann is moving to a new location, and it will be Joann superstore, and it will be close as well....and they are going to liquidate the old store,so I am saving up some money and going to shop the liquidation sales!

The flower and the stripe fabric will go great together

I haven't been on since yesterday afternoon, so when I logged on and went to my user CP to find the thread, I freaked because it wasn't there! I'm so glad you all didn't go anywhere:)

Castle- I love that minnie outfit! How did you do the little hats?

I really like it!! Is it hard to do the applique on the jeans? I might have to try it some day...

I think it might be a little easier, but there is an extra step-You have to rip open the legs (carefully!!) and sew them closed again. I think they are easier because it is a thicker, more stable material.

We leave on Wed the 30th! Only 5 full days left at home. Good thing, because it's freezing and the schools are closed!

I quoted last night but hate for you not to have seen it because I LOVE the creations! I am sure you are so excited! Have a blast!

Can I ask how you ruffle? I know it sounds dumb, but I'm going to try it on the bottom of a shirt and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.:confused3

I use dental floss and love it! I just zigzag over dental floss, pin at the first end and yank, ruffling it, then I can sew it onto whatever I want it on.

Are we going to move back home when they open it back up?

I miss our old home! So silly, but I do.

Honestly, alot of the people on here started within the past 6 months, year at the most! To me I thought appliquing was pretty simple, but I am cheap and am determined that I can do anything! I did a pair of pumpkin patch overalls first and then Elmo, everyone that saw them was amazed (as was I).

WWWAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!
