I just wanted to ask all you talented ladies w/is a better machine, Singer or Brother. I just sew occasionaly. My $100. Singer machine is about 4yrs old and on its last leg. I need to sew a costume for DD's music recital withen 2wks. I am looking for a machine that is simple to Bobin (understand?). I hate to bobin it takes me longer to bobin my machine then it does to sew my project! .

When I go to Joann' they are always trying to sell me a Brother. The Singer's are alot les expensive.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks for your time.:yay:

Any sale that you are aware of would help alot. I don't want to spend more then $200. If have to spend more I will.

I have not bought a machine in over 10 years but my mother told me that Singers used to be great machines but now they are made very cheaply and do not have the reputation they once had.

I think for an occasional sewer the Singer would be fine. If you plan on doing a lot of sewing, consider the Brother.

My opinion, and only based on what I have heard, not experienced. I have a cheap Kenmore which doesn't have any bells and whistles but keeps chugging along.

Good luck with your daughter's costume. We would love to see it when it's completed!

Thanks Stephres for your reply. I would love to post pictures. I just don't know how. :sad2: . One of these days I'll learn. I love the group of women in the Disboutiquers thread. You are all so talented and inspirational. I just can't keep up w/the thread. Do you know where the best place to buy a sewing machine is?

I am not a fan of Singer machines. In my opinion the newer ones break very easily. I would go with a Brother. If you want a low cost machine, I would check out Walmart. For higher end check your local Joann fabrics. (I was drooling over one at Joann's today that was $8,000.00 :scared1: )

I have the Brother 7700 (or something like that) from Costco. It was about $180 when I bought it a year ago. They sell something similar at Wal-Mart for about the same price. I love the machine and have been very happy with it. Good luck!
