Et Tu Linette?!?!?! Would ya'll slow down on the BIG GIVE stuff already!!! I finally got the last of my fabric yesterday (except for some I'm waiting on in the mail...crap, I forgot) and meant to get it cut out last night so when the other fabric arrives i can "whip" it up as ya'll say. But then was sidetracked by the ever pressing teacher's gift idea...Again, WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF , did I mention that between gifted and his regular class he has 3 teachers????

You don't need to be embarrassed AT ALL! That dress is precious! Seriously! I think she'll love it.

She is so precious! I love that fabric! Love the outfit to! :goodvibes

Ms_Mckenna!! I so admire you're heart and bravery. To go through what you do time and time again. To do the right thing even when it's hard in order to help and hope for a healthy future for these children. Any one of them lucky enough to find a foster/apdoptive mother like you are truly blessed.

In highschool I had a friend whose mother and step father thought since their only was in HS they would close in the family room to make an extra bedroom and begin to foster. I remember meeting their 8 yo foster daughter exactly once. My friend told me how she threw tantrums and refused to take a bath or go to school. I don't think she was there for 3 months. I remember when he told me that they had gotten rid of her b/c of her behavior that even at the age of 16 I thought that beautiful little girl didn't stand a chance if the people who had the heart to help her all gave up on her. They never fostered another child, as long as I knew them.

It takes a very big heart to hang in "after the honeymoon"

I find all of you who have adopted or fostered absolutely amazing and you restore my faith in humanity daily!

Thank you for being who you are.

Thank you for the compliment but we get back as much as we give. Now do not give me wrong I have wanted to give up on some kiddos I just knew there would be an end to it and they would not be with me forever so I needed to suck it up and do the right thing for the child I brought into my home. I will also say there are a few things that I could not deal with any anyway but those are kids that would not need to be wtih me as I could do not give them what they needed it would take someone like in an RTC. :( Thankfully the one we had major issues with he started doing better and it was such a joy to see him grow. I actually got a message from him today from one of my daughters friends that goes to the same school he does he told her to tell me he loved me and missed me. This is a child who never told me he loved me while he was in my home though I told him everyday how much we loved him and knew he was a diamond in the rough. It warmed my heart to say the least to hear that. :goodvibes

Ms_Mckenna - so sorry it's tought right now. Isn't it funny how yo uwake up one day and realize the honeymoon is over? Like a light swithch...
I'm praying things will get better quickly. You know what's happening with her, and you know why. And you know that she needs help. That's part of the biggest hurdle to over come. I pray it'll happen quickly for your family.

I ditto everything T-beri has said. I've said it before... You're an amazing person! It takes an incredible person to be able to have the fortitude to be a foster parent. Bless you!

AND... Love the dress! I've never had the problem with the easy fit pants. With that pattern, it gives you specifics on how to make them the length that you want. I love that pattern.

It is funny how you just see it. One day was great and the next was well we will not talk about it. :scared1: We knew it was coming because of her age we just were hoping the preplacement visits would show her "real" self. We are very thankful to know that she is testing her boundries and trying to find out if we will leave her like her mother did. She will learn eventually we are here to stay but heaven only knows how long. The good news is she took a nap today and I should be sleeping now but I am not I am stuck here lol. Thank you for the prayers. Like I told you in the store people like me that do foster care it is just the right amount of infertility and insanity combined. ;) Course I may be more insane than I think but that is info that I don't want to jinx yet lol.

I am thinking she did the pants and not the capris but we will see when we get down there. The good thing is Miss Mam is tall and skinny and looks like she will be fore a while so they will be capris next summer. :rotfl:

haven't had a chance to look at the things posted today, I will try later---I am sure they are fab but I had to get this off my chest! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My friend has the kids today, I have to get them soon so I could get stuff done. 1st let me say, I am an overachieving nutcase and HAD to do a scrapbook for DDs teacher because I did one for her last year. (this is her last year of preschool :() Well after 40 8x8 pages, I have 4 left and am scrapbooked out. I also wanted to make crayon rolls for the kids (13) but I don't know how long it will take me and the program is in the morning. I so wanted to finish painting my family room but that is not gonna happen today! Thanks for letting me ramble, I had to take a break from the patterned paper for a minute!

No serger here...sigh...someday! I sew my seams and then go back and zigzag the 2 pieces together (does that make sense? Instead of ironing the seam open, I zigzag together and press to one side). I only zig zag exposed seams. I used to zig zag every individual piece, but found I was zig zagging a lot or areas that weren't exposed and didn't need to be zig zagged. I'm all about efficiency. Just realized typing zig zag over and over is a little challenging.

This is what I do too!

That dress is really cute!!!! Super girly!
Um, I just zig zag the seams after they are sewn together and trimmed. But yes, I do zig zag all of the inside seams.
But am figuring out the serger sat.

Good luck on the sreger! I figured mine out, and if I can do it anyone can, believe me!!!! It really scared me when i took it out of the box. I open the cover and immediately thought "I'll never figure this out." Breaing down and actualy reading the manual helped:rolleyes1

We are off to rehersal for DD's first dance recital!!! Se ya later guys!!!!

40 pages - sounds done to me! She'll never know that 4 pages are missing.

Crayon rolls aren't hard. I did 14 in a night, so it can be done. I guess it just depends on if you feel like if you have it in you at this point.

That dress is beautiful! I cannot imagine NOT using a pattern-I wouldn't know where to start.

First: For those of you out there who do not have sergers, when you sew something, do you zigzag around every piece before you start? I know LisaZoe said that she did this before she got a serger but I was wondering if anyone else was this anal, or is it just me? I hate to have little threads hanging off everywhere and this seems to do the trick until I get a serger but was just wondering. Of course I'm doing a storybook panel skirt with lots of small pieces and hate zigzagging all of them but too anal to stop!
I zigzag the exposed seams after I sew the seams. My machine has a special foot that guides the edge of the fabric. I love the A-line pattern-no exposed seams!!!

If you decide to make Luke a robe, Dallas would love one too! They are probably about the same size! He always wants to be a star wars guy for halloween, I just have not been in the mood yet around halloween to make a star wars costume.

Here is my little jedi, I think the shirt did the trick to get picked. He hardly said a word and couldn't see his sign. He fought Darth Maul though and I could not get one good picture.

Dallas makes a great Jedi! And I remember when you made that shirt. I LOVE it!

:rotfl2: That story so made me cry too!! Want a couple of DORKS!! I think our Lily's are 2 peas in a pod. She does that head tilt...it's her "I'm cute" face. Whenever anyone gives her a compliment she does this. Once a month on sunday my DH plays at a local icecream shop (TONYA and MATT'S in NORTHDALE FOR ALL YOU Tampa DIS'ers!!) and it's the ONE gig that we can take the kiddos to see Dada play guitar (cause he NEVER does that at home:confused: ) You cannot keep lily away from the stage. She stands right next to him and shakes her hips and plays her shaker egg and sings along (she likes to wear her "princess" dresses so she can twirl for everyone!!)
at first I tried to control it but found out quickly she was born to be on stage, so I let go.

...t.

how cute! They'll have to start a band together when they get older :rotfl: Lily gets ahold of the microphone (we have a sort of little stage in the basement with a drum set and some guitars) and she sings and sings! Mostly about Disneyworld and Cinderella :confused3

Great job! I love the shoulder ties! It is a very soft, sweet princessy dress!

Okay, so it looks like I am the only crazy one who zig zags all of the pieces. I also go back after I sew them together and zig zag the pieces together. Iron the extra fabric to one side and possibly topstitch it (if it calls for it). Good to know how crazy I am!

It is hard to keep typing zig zag!

Any takers on the second question? What are the color circles with numbers in them on the sides of the fabric?

I just popped in to say hello to everyone. hope everyone is feeling better about everything. Just wanted to say hello.
I did finally finish my peter pan outfit. whewww...

Lori

Hi Lori, glad you stopped by! You're just an applique-ing fool now, huh?!?!?! Someday I'll find some patience and sit down and do some practicing.... maybe.

I just want to say that last night DH and I sat down and talked out my business plan and whether or not it is worth it in the long run to put out the money that this venture requires and the smartest way to do that etc. and I think the decision is we'll never know unless we try and I feel very confident that I will at least be able to make back what I've invested if I don't make a dime more so it will not hurt to try. But of course all I can think of is losing money that could be spent at WDW:rotfl2:
So I think the verdict is I am just going to bite the bullet and buy the supplies that I need to get me going (my cutting mat is JUNK!) and order the fabric *GULP* and get the show on the road. Sat my MIL and I are sitting down to the serger and the ruffler- we're finally going to optimize it:headache:

Somehow I still have a knot in my stomach.

I was at Joanns just now picking up extra of the teacher fabric...and I bought another yard and a half of clearance fabric for Lily....I think I have a problem.

Also, I have in my stash....some cuties fabric (there WAS a pic of it in the photobucket:bitelip: ) I don't know how much, more than a yard ( I can measure it tonight) Any takers???

AND I am still looking for LiL' EINSTEIN fabric and chip and dale fabric...where do you guys keep finding chip and dale fabric??????

..t.

I don't know if the numbers will match up, but I always thought that they were so that you had a clear swatch of each color by itself so that you could match up fabrics if you want. That's just my guess.

What is Cuties fabaric?

I can get Lil' Einstein at Hancock's. I'm happy to go get it for you and ship to you if you want. PM me! No clue about chip and dale fabric. I thought that was being found on ebay?

Love all the outfits! I wish I had time to make somehing star wars for the kids...we will be there for one weekend because they LOVE star wars! Changed the whole vacation for that!

okay here it is the great hair chopping of 2008! I am ready for Florida heat now!!!! Wish I could unload the extra weight that easy.

Befor the cut!

DD gets hers done next Wednesday because it needs to stay long for her dance recital this weekend. Oh that reminds me...I have so much to do for the recital too! There is not enough time in the day!:headache:

WOW! That's a lot of hair cut off! The new cut looks great!

I was just checking out your ticker, and it made me a bit sad. We were scheduled to be there beginning next Sunday (June 8). We had to cancel due to some scheduling conflicts with our work. I'm really sad. :worried: Especially now realizing that I should be packing and finishing up customs right about now. Oh well, I guess our next trip will come soon enough. Or not.

I've been lurking around here for a while, and thought I would post some pics of the P&PP outfits I made. I am a definite NEWBIE so they aren't very good, but they were fun to make. I'm looking forward to doing more for our September trip! (and praying for a princess, so I can make some of these adorable girl outfits!;) )

YEAH! More boys and a compliant matching Dad!

Just about 15 days until our trip and I think the kids have enough outfit...well, more than enough I think...there are a few unfinished projects that I need to finish up within the next couple weeks, but I just haven't been really motivated to sew lately. I figured even if I don't finish them...they will have more than enough anyways. Anyway, here are all the outfits for our 7 day/6 night trip - some of them probably could use some ironing, and also excuse the wrinkly blanket that I lay them on. Most of my dd's customs were made with CarlaC's pattern! Love her patterns!!!!

This is for dinner at Ohana during our first night - ds's shirt is store bought at ToysRus

IMG_5593d.jpg

For Garden Grill - I still haven't figured out what to do with the shirt for ds - maybe a small applique made with the same short fabric or something..

Matching cars outfit to meet McQueen and Mater (I hope they still have them - ds is looking forward to that) - the dress has McQueen on the front, and Mater on the back

Breakfast at Crystal Palace

Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern - the minnie dot top - I have to say that I case the sleeve from either Heather or Teresa - it is Carlac's peasant top but I didn't put elastic in the sleeves.
IMG_5636d.jpg
IMG_5639d.jpg

Cinderella's Royal Table: - not sure which cinderella cotton gown dd is going to wear. I had initially made the one with ruffles and dh said that is not Cinderella's gown because her gown doesn't have ruffles, and suggested that I make another one. I think I will let dd pick. Poor ds - I only made Prince Charming's red pants, and I doubt I will have time to make the top, so I am thinking of just doing a Prince Charming T-shirt transfer/iron on with a design on the Creative DISign board. Notice the line at the bottom of the pants...I must have measured ds wrong, and it was way too short so I had to do a smaller hem!

I love the matching brother sister sets. that is one of the big reasons I sew. I can't believe you did that many button shirts. I know from experience how hard they are, but how cute they look!

Tired of my pictures yet? There's more..LOL

For the Disney Princess Tea Party - think I have shared the sleeping beauty gown before... dd is wearing her McDonald's crown with stickers all over it...

Thanks to TJ and anyone else who contributed the idea to ruffle/gather by adjusting the tension. I've been avoiding ruffles and considering a ruffler foot. I tried the tension method today and WOW! Just one question though...do I have to ruffle first, then sew it on or can I do both in 1 step?
Thanks all for the help with DD dress. I found a little more fabric today, but not enough for another outfit. I am considering a stripwork skirt with solid colors and a top to match or a shirred top with matching skirt. I don't think the bottom is big enough for just an elastic waist skirt the way it is cut.
