Question....to sew 3/8" ribbon with polka dots onto my garment should I just sew down the middle or try and sew down either side?

I sew my 3/8" on both sides - it seems to lay and wash better.

Super cool! I love them! Can I ask where you found that fabric? Caleb would love it.

I got the fabric at a local quilt shop. It says "TIMELESS TREASURES FABRICS, INC - PATTERN # GM C9921. Hope this helps!

OK. I need HELP! I am going to throw my sewing machine out the window. Seriously. I don't think there's any talking me out of it. I just got it out of the shop about a week ago. I paid $108 replacing the bobbin case, having it serviced, etc. The stupid thing WON'T WORK! The thread keeps getting caught under the feed dogs, and won't let the bobbin thread pull up. I've not even completed the first outfit on it since I had it serviced. I'm SO MAD!

I think I'm just gonna buy a new machine. I want a GOOD ONE! I don't want to buy a new machine every 6 months. I want a machine that is going to hold up and let me sew a lot. Any suggestions for a GOOD machine?

ETA: The machine that is about to fly out the window currently is the Brother XR7700.

I have that same machine and this happened to me a couple of days ago. I tried raising and lowering the feed dogs, opened it up and cleaned the lint out, then put it back together, then I realized the bobbin case was sitting a little wonky. I was scared of the timing going off again but I just gently wiggled the bobbin case around a tiny bit and it sort of fell into place. :confused3 Good luck! Shouldn't your repair job have some sort of warranty?

Yes, it does! Thanks so much! If I can find it, DS may end up with some pj's similar, if you don't mind.

That's frustrating to have just had it repaired and already not working! I'm sorry. My serger and main machine are both Husquvarna and I'm very happy with both! I've had the machine for almost 8 years and really like it. It's pretty basic, but works great. I almost wish I did have problems with it - then I could buy a fancier one.

I also have a basic brother machine from wal-mart that is OK, but I only use it now for ruffling. I optimized my ruffler foot on it and just leave it.

I should look at that paper work to see if it has a warranty. I"m just so frustrated by the whole thing!

I have a pet Nanny who comes and stays with my animals, she sleeps here at night- but the last time we went away Jessie had recently been diagnosed with Lyme's Disease and was on pain meds that she was supposed to get for 7 straight days. Well, our Nanny decided that no dog should take this particular pain med unless they were visually in pain- and DIDN'T give it to her!!! I FLIPPED out and wrote a very strongly worded letter to her.

Oh, I hope that was a VERY strongly worded letter. Seriously.... what was she thinking?!?!! Poor puppy.

Am I wrong? Any thoughts?

You are not wrong to not want to go. I would let your cousin know, to be as polite as possible given the circumstances. But you said that you guys weren't close and your priority should not be her. Do what's best for you and those who are truly important - your daughter and husband.

HS and TJ Hope that Barbara's surgery goes well. Sending good vibes her way! pixiedust:

Big Give Gurus/Divas/Goddesses Nice work! It's all beautiful! Can't wait to see the rest.

I love all the other things that have been posted! Nice work ladies! That strawberry outfit was too cute and I love the boys pjs! (Sorry I can't remember who posted them!)

Thanks again for the people who sent good thoughts this way. I'm happy to say that Papa Tom is with it again. They still don't know what's wrong (Scott thinks it's an infection) but at least he knows who he is again. so next step is to figure out the infection and then hopefully he'll be on the road to recovery. :yay:

You're a genius! I just went back and fiddled with the bobbin case, and now it works! Thanks so much! Maybe I can at least finish the outfit I'm working on now. Thanks again!

Ok, here's the Donald dress on the model & with the sailor hat.

That is some SERIOUS cuteness going on there!

My first stop tomorrow morning will be the church!! I'm lighting candles for Barbara and your brother and their kids and you and Heather and all y'alls kids...no way our prayers can be missed!!!;)

She's going to do great! I know she will.

Thank you MissCammie!

WHAT?! And you didn't call me??
Oh my goodness!!! I thought I told you!!!! :scared1: It's going right there on the corner, in front of Home Depot, across from Big Lots, Dunham's and Peebles, kitty corner from Meijer and down the road from Walmart! (doesn't that make it sound like I live in a great big boomin town!!! )

Bonjour les filles

It's me again, I've been trying to get a twirl skirt completed for my DD, she chose some really cool pirate fabric! But then we all were sick, and I had a pinched nerve in my neck . . . Well I'm finally ready to tackle it but my machine is giving me grief!

I was using my Mum's old Kenmore (she bought it in October 1970 and I have the bill to prove it!!) with a ruffler I bought at a sewing machine shop, but it doesn't have any adjustment screws on it, so it's not going well.

Today I was at Wal-Mart and they no longer have a fabric department but they still sell sewing machines! So I bought a Brother XL-2600 on a whim, and I think I like it. But my ruffler doesn't fit. So, does anyone have this machine? Is it OK? Should I hunt down a ruffler for it? I really want to finish this project (I also have pirate shorts for DS and a bunch of Star Wars fabric too!). I can't manually ruffle all the fabric I have carpal tunnel, it's just not possible.

Thanks so much, I can't wait to post my creations!

Stephanie

I think the Brother's are a low shank, so you'll need to find a low shank ruffler.

I would also suggest using the tension tightening method for ruffling. Here, I added it to my blog: http://disboutique.blogspot.com/2008/04/easy-gathers-by-candicenicole19.html (origianlly posted by Candicenicole19)
I really love how easy it is to ruffle and gather using this method!

I forgot to post BAB's sailor dress. Shame on me I know.

th_2008_05270001x.jpg

tsk tsk tsk!!!! Poor BAB! Doesn't she look adorable!!!

Has anyone made flip flops with korker bows attached? Did you just attach them with hot glue?

I'm thinking it was Wendy, UtahMama, that suggested using twisty ties for this. I've never made any, so I have no good advice on the subject though! but, hot glue sounds like a good idea to me.

Here is one more set of pj's I made for Noah this weekend. Thanks for letting me share - I don't get to do much for him but he loves all the items I make him and proudly tells everyone his mom made them. :)

Those are really cute!! It reminds me of the old Batman show my brother use to watch!

Make sure you give fair warning to anyone who might be out there before you throw it! :duck:

I do hope you get it working though!

Oh that is an awesome idea. May I ask where you found Nemo clear vinyl???

Hi! I actually got the idea to do the raincoat from some people on here. I don't think anyone has actually attempted it though. I got the vinyl at Hancock's. It has been on sale for 30%, but I don't know if that is over or not. If not it is $7.99/yd. If I remember correctly, mine had Nemo, Cars, Mickey, Pooh, and Princesses. I thought it would be great for a raincoat for Disney (when we do go in 2.5 years it will be December and we may get rain). Now I really just need a pattern of some kind, but I can't seem to find one. Well, that and to guess what size my daughter will be at age 2.5. I tend to plan ahead just a bit - a little OCD. :confused3

By the way - I remember reading your trip report a while back and just loved it!

So you don't use a ruffler for a twirl skirt?? Is it "twirly" enough this way?

I have a low shank ruffler, but the needle and the needle hole don't line up, and as far as I can see there's no way to adjust it.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jess...thanks for the information on the Disney vinyl. I will have to take a look and see if I can find some. I think making a rain coat would be a cool idea. Let me know if you find a good pattern. Oh and I think planning in advance is a GOOD thing....!!!!

Awww thank you so much for the kind words on my TR. Teresa actually just sent me a PM today asking what happened to my TR. I guess the mods moved it over to the completed TR's...even though I have one day left to write about. I have been so busy with our new baby that I never had a chance to complete it. We are praying that we will be celebrating another adoption in December and if so we are going to WDW!!! I may just have to do another TR! Thanks again...you are a sweetie!!!

Is there a way to change your needle position on your machine? I have a Babylock (same company as Brother) and the default needle position is left. My ruffler wants a center needle position, so I have to change it. Many machines you can put the needle in the right, center or left position (I havent figured out right on mine though!). My old non-digital machine would allow me to change position as well, so you should be able to! (crossing my fingers that it will and that you haven't already tried that!)

On my machine, it will gather it up really tight, I was doing some ruffles that i needed gathered up to 1/3 of the original length, and I actually had to adjust it so it didn't gather it too small. The key seems to be going nice and slow. If you see it isn't gathering, slow down. I really love this method now!

ETA: make sure you leave some extra thread at the beginning and end of your stitches, in case you need to adjust the gathering. That way, you can make it loser or tighter.

I actually had to write it twice. I read the first one to my husband and he asked me if I that was how a Christian should write a letter. Soooo, I wrote another one- I read both to a close, animal loving friend to get her opinion and she like the first, but agreed the second would do. LOL
I got a msg on my machine with a big apology- I never did return her call, I felt akward- I didn't know what to say. I have hired her for 5 years, but the last few times I was unhappy with somethings,- one of the other "little" things was that she quoted me over the phone- and then when I got home her final price was much higher, when I asked she said she guessed she'd gone up $15 since we last had her- I knew that wasnt true because I recommended her to a friend and told my friend what I pay and she called me back to tell me- yet I continued to be charged the same, so it was a real Whammer for me. I am glad I wrote the other letter. I sure do miss having someone who comes and stays with my 2 cats and 2 dogs though....but 3 times a day for playing and such should do....this is the first time they will be alone at night while we are away. Most vacations we rent places that allow dogs. Sadly cats dont travel real well.

Darby will be 15 this October, so I want to be sure she gets checked on alot. JUST in case.

Teresa and Heather- I will definitely be praying for your SIL!!! AND YOUR KITTY!!!!

ALMOST finished my Minnie Dot dress- just have to put elastic in the bodice and it's done.

We had a HUGE storm here today and a large tree of ours was hit my lightening, luckily most of it landed just below on the lawn, I dragged some stuff off the street- it looked like someone put a bomb in the tree the way it was everywhere. No power for much of the day, thus no sewing machine, and no laundry. Tomorrow will be a BUSY day.

DH surprised Megan and me- we watched Cinderella tonight for the first time with Megan. Love the end music- and I looked for all the different pink dresses in the movie!!

My transmission has to be replaced so I have no car this week- or until I return from FL. I had to run out tonight to buy a 3rd suitcase tonight because the little one we have just isnt big enough, DH had trouble understanding until I explained you had to add in bedding for the crib, diapers, blankets, snacks, quickie meals (like speghetti-o's) and juice (why pay $2 when I get them at Costco in cases!)
I couldn't believe how expensive Target is- I had to go to Wal-mart and got a great deal- $55 for a nice big blue one- easy to spot!

Oh...and I'm hoping to know if I'm pregnant or not by the time I get back from my trip.....:rolleyes1

And, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you have good news when you get back!
