Disboards messing up my computer??

I've been having the same problem for the last three days. I have AOL and dial up. I thought it was my 3 year old computer. I just read about the black dot and tried logging in. It's much faster and back to normal without the black dots for me.

I've been having the same problem, still am, so it's not the black dot. The site's been slower than molassas to load.

Work is some kind of direct connection and windows 98, home is aol, internet explorer for a browser, and windows me.

And I just got logged off, too.....

It's still VERY slow but hasn't gotten to the point where I need to restart my computer....yet. It usually takes a while to get that messed up.
Just to clarify, the problem wasn't just the Disboards running slow, it would affect everything on my computer.
Sometimes I couldn't even RESTART, I'd have to SHUT DOWN...improperly!

Good luck with it!
:)

I admit Alex, it was a tad bit slower the last few days but now that you have it off it is 3 times slower than it was not too long ago. Is there anything else going on that would be slowing me down? I've resorted to loading software on my new laptop since it was so slow.

My computer has also been locking up, and when it doesn't it is very slow to load. (Only on this site.)
I am using Windows XP and IE on a 6 month old laptop.
Don't know how this will help, but I hope it does!:D

We just tried a few other things, Pete and I are both looking at this. If everyone wants to try again and let me know how it is going that would be great :)

This is happening to me but only at work. I am running the exact same system there that I have here at home...but it takes at least 45 seconds to open a thread and another 45 to get back to the board.

The one and only difference in the set up here and there is that at work I am on a network. But I have been on the DIS for almost 2 years and this is the first time I have had any problems with speed like this.

And yup, it's only happening with the DIS no other sites.

I noticed the boards being sluggish ever since the index board changed-that happened before the dot. It's worse on the T1 line at work than it is on dial up though.

I'm getting it too now. :( It seems to happen most navigating to the forums and when posting. It'll just plain stall.

I'm running :

PIII 1k
External v.90 modem
Win 98se
IE 5.5 with all fixes/updates.
Straight Windows Dialup connection- no front end software.

Alex - drop me a pm and I'll tell you if onboard notification's working for me now - I've tossed my cookie, wiped history and cache. I'm going to go now and uncheck, check my pm notification again to make sure it's set.

I see that others are having problems like I am. The funny thing is that I'm doing OK at home when I use my PC but I like to lurk when I'm at work and it's very slow there. I'm on a network there and I use Explorer.

Whatever it is, please don't take away the dot. :(

We're running Win98 with AOL 7. I brought up the "System Monitor" which shows how much the CPU is working and when I went to the DIS boards it hit 100% and I never got the screen loaded. I did this at 7:55pm PST.

I'm having the same problem. I'm on a Mac G4 using Explorer 5.1. I thought it was freezing, too, at first, but what it's doing is just taking an incredibly long time for the pages to load -- like two to three minutes. I just had to wait two minutes for this message box to load.

It's been doing this since this past Saturday or Sunday (if that helps), and it is not doing it on the DVC board. That board is just fine. How strange is that? The DVC board, itself, looks different than the other boards, though, so perhaps it's on another server or something??

Anyway, something is affecting almost this entire site that is not affecting the DVC board, and it sure is frustrating. I've almost quit visiting because of it.

296 days and counting . . . again!

this is weird, it's definitely only affecting certain people...
I even called our hosting company to see if there are routing problems from certain locations. We'll keep looking at it!

I am SO glad to see this thread, I've missed the DIS! Since the index board changed, the DIS has been slower than I've ever seen it. It's almost impossible to use it now.:(
I'm using IE 6.02 with W2K and 128KB of a T1 line.
I hope this gets fixed soon!!! It took me 10 minutes just to have the reply screen pop up.

I've had the same problems...using IE on my MAC G4 at home via cable modem, as well as my pc at work, NT, from the company server. Takes minutes to even load the website, let alone going to a board. And moving around a board is out of the question.

I just finished trying 9 different setups:

2k & IE6
98 & IE6
NT & IE6
2k server & IE6
2k & IE 5
98 & IE5
2k & NS
98 & NS
2K server & NS

It didn't squak at all with any of them. I've been getting good load speeds. Posting only lags during the usual busy times, but not nearly as slow as it used to be.

This would support the router idea since all of these are using the same gateway.

It was back working for me last night until late when the boards went down. Upon trying to log in now, can't do. Back to sloooow and frozen screen.

I am on AOL 8.0 and use Windows ME

I have all the same symptoms and experiences as those previously posted here. :(

Hmmm...seems to be running along fine for me this morning :)

Oh, forgot to say before...AOL8.0, Windows XP, IE 6.0, AOL DSL line

Not good at all tonight. On AOL and Internet Explorer. :(
