Disboards messing up my computer??

As soon as I tried to get on using AOL, my computer just about froze and everything was all messed up again.

I had to restart, which is such a pain because I always have a bunch of programs running in the background and I have to do the ALT-CTL-DELETE thing for each one.
Anyone have any tips on how I get those programs to stop running every time I restart?

Anyway, I guess I'll have to stay off AOL when I'm on the Dis but I don't like it.

Of course, there's more important things to worry about...it's just a little glitch and it's not really THAT important in the whole scheme of things.

I am ok today too, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling 8.0 I don't know if that is what made it work or not but I was able to sign on to the dis ok this time, before I did that I couldn't get on. so keeping my fingers crossed

It worked fine for me all day until I tried tonight going though AOL and it frooze on me 3 x's.

Update..... I still can't use AOL.
It's frustrating, I have all my "stuff" on AOL.
Internet Explorer is very slow and crashes after a few hours.
I have to restart my computer to get back on IE.

Just thought I'd keep reporting in!

I still cannot access the DIS via AOL. It totally freezes up my computer, and 99% of the time won't even load the DIS for viewing. It freezes everything, including ICQ.

I minimize and use IE to open the DIS which is better, but still very slooooow.

Hi, also glad I found this thread, luckily I saw it a few days ago (when I was able to get on, but I hadn't read it...that'll teach me!)...Anyhoo...I am also Win98, aol 8.0. (I am using IE to visit now, but it is way slow)

Something else I have noticed is that if I go to other sites first, they work fine. When I go to the DIS first, everything I try to open after that also won't load. When I try to open the DIS, it loads all the way to almost there and then freezes. Everything else I try to go to after that does the same thing, and I end up having to restart or Alt/Ctrl/Del. I don't even get the 'gateway time out' response that I normally would get if I allow it more time (like a few minutes) than it should take. Thank you for working on this Alex and Willy!!

I'll keep checking back to see if there is any new info posted...

Well, first of all I'm not doing anything as far as the tech stuff. . and considering I once tried to fix my laptop with a bottle opener, I can assure everyone that it's a darn good thing I'm not. .

I do feel for everyone having problems. . I know how frustrating it can be. .

The reason I posted is because from reading through this thread I do notice a lot of AOL users (though not all) are the ones having the most problems, and since I'm on AOL and dial-up and had noticed some of the same problems (mainly things loading very slow- never actually had any total lock-ups) but then it was working just fine for me, I was wondering if the things Alex had been trying might of solved it for everyone. . .

I do know Alex is aware there are still some people having problems and has been working on figuring this out, and is still trying different things. . .

Perhaps I can pass on some info to him though that might help. . . is anyone using AOL 8.0 and it's working okay? Is anyone not using AOL 7.0 or 8.0 and still having problems?

The reason I ask is because having used AOL for years I've learned not to use their new versions until they've been out for for a while because they always seem to have to do a lot of "tweaking" to them after they come out. . (even had problems with 7.0 and went back to 6.0, and that wasn't just with the DIS.)

I realize there were problems before with all different versions and some people not using AOL at all. . but recently I'm seeing mostly people using 8.0 still having trouble. . perhaps if we can narrow it down more it'll help ALex figure it out for everyone finally. .

I just tried to get on the Disboards through AOL and my computer froze immediately.
I have 8.0 with DSL.
I've had this version of 8.0 since it first came out. I have a new CD here, maybe I should uninstall the old version and install the new one?

It didn't help.

You know, Jason, I don't know how old you are, but I find your comment totally out of line. If you're trying to be funny, you're not.

People on this thread are trying to provide information that might help the webmasters solve a problem with the boards. If that offends you, move on. I'm sure you have better things to do with your time than torment people who are already frustrated.

inky dinky doo, I realize you're frustrated with computer problems, but that's no reason to attack Jason. Yes, he was just joking around and a lot of us appreciate his levity. Perhaps you haven't been on the CB long enough to get to know him or appreciate his type of humor, but let me assure you that he meant no disrespect to you or anyone else.

Jason is an integral part of the Community Board and a very nice person. I like him a lot and would hate to see him leave because someone misunderstood his sense of humor and hurt his feelings.

Inky dinky doo, lighten up for Pete's sake! Jeesh! If your reply was to made to upset someone, you succeeded quite well. It upset me-for the very reasons Laura (***********) stated. Jason has a very unique sense of humor-one I can appreciate.

I don't know him and I think his post was uncalled for.
I have a good sense of humor and I didn't think it was particularly funny...it came off more as a "personal attack"!
It's an old joke anyway and he didn't even say or spell it right.

I have spent a lot of frustrating hours trying to get the Disboards to work right for me and I am not WHINING just because I post what I am doing.

Jason posts an offending remark and then Browneyes and *********** are offended that someone reacts to it and they rush to his defense! I don't get it.

We would really like to help those in need with their problems getting on to the boards, but this thread has gone off on a tangent. Expressing a concern or problem is not whining (especially when I am having the same problem!)

Please know that Alex is working on it and if those with problems will post them on the Test Board, it may make it easier for the tech team to figure out what the problem is.
