Disaster!!

My husband has had an accident on 13.5.2011 resulting in broken ribs and pelvis. We booked flights with Virgin and can only transfer them at a charge. We are due to go to orlando 2.6.2011, how do I go about getting him a mobility scooter at the parks if we are able to go as if we do go (which is hanging in the balance at the moment) he won't be able to walk around the parks.
Can anyone help?

I dont know about a mobility scooter but at guess you could try to ring disney directly and see what they say.

how much is the charge to change the date of the holiday?

perhaps it would be worth it? so that you can really enjoy yourselves...
and the scooter isn't cheap to rent either.....
something to take into consideration....

Check online for scooter rental companies in Orlando. They are usaully cheaper than Disney and most of them will deliver the scooter directly to your resort before your arrival. Again most companies will offer support to you if any problems happen to the scooter. Just do some research and see which one works best for you.
Also Disney scooters at the parks are pretty much first come first serve. They are roughly $50.00 per day rental that I believe included a deposit fee you get back if the scooter has no damage.
I hope this helps and you can still have great vacation considering your predicament.

I can thoroughly recommend Randys Mobility in the post above.
We used them a couple of years ago when my Mum came with us and had problems getting around. They delivered the scooter to the villa and gave us a demonstration on how to put it together and dismantle it, then gave my Mum a quick driving lesson. They then collected it at the end of the holiday.
It was all hassle free and was a lot cheaper than renting one daily at the parks.

Hi there,

I have suffered a very similar injury some 20 years ago when I was a much younger man. I smashed my pelvis into peices and the next few months was hell. Learning too walk was horrible and painful. Whilst every injury is different, as you are probably aware a WDW holiday is not short of challenges both in the environment of the parks and the transportation. You may want to think "are we really wanting to do this" as the strain on the injured party could be tremendous as "he" will not want to slow up your party and the parks is not a great place to deal with pain.

All the negative thinks said, whatever you decided I hope it all works out for your family.

My top tip is to take lots of medication and listen to the doctors advice.

Do you have travel insurance? If you do, I'm sure it would cover the cost of changing your flight dates. In your position, I think I'd rather postpone the holiday and go later in the year when your DH is not so incapacitated.

Whatever you decide, I hope everything turns out well for you.

Thank you for all your advice. The dr's have said my husband is unable to travel as he had a punctured lung so at huge risk of a collapsed lung during the flight. After lenghty talks with Virgin Atlantic they have transfered our flights outside of the transfer window and waivered all costs of transfer.
I am extremley grateful as this has been a difficult enough time for us all without breaking my DS, 4 and DD, 3 hearts by telling them we couldn't go to Disney. We are now going in December so we now have a bit of time for my DH to recover and get excited all over again.
Will either of Typhoon Lagoon or Blizard Beach be open at this time as I know they generally close 1 for refurb during the winter.

I am sorry to hear that you have had to pospone the holiday. When I was over at new year two years ago one of the water parks was supposed to be open but due to the cold weather they closed both.

Glad you managed to get it sorted out and wish your DH a speedy recovery.

just a postponement which I think is a good option for you. Lots of time for a full recovery and you'll be there for all the Christmas decorations - your children will love it. Enjoy your extra planning time.
