How old are you? The hurricane, Katrina, is such a big mess that you might be able to just go door to door and ask for money. Just be prepared to give some sort of proof that that's really what you're doing. Mabey do some yard work, or extra babysitting. There are places where you can have the rubber braceletes made. Minnimum order is like 1000, and they cost to buy them, but if you're pretty sure that you can get some takers, you could consider that. Even having like a backyard daycare or carnival for littler kids with cost for addmission could work. You could have a lemonade stand, or get some of your friends involved and have a car wash. You could do some cleaning for your neighbors, or start some sort of buisness. Maybe you could take white shirts, and have people caome and tiedye them for a couple bucks, or the price of the tee shirt. Thoose are my ideas.

going around door to door asking for money sounds good, as long as you identify what you are doing (so they don't think that you are trying to swindle them!) and maybe after they donate, send them a card or something telling them when you sent the money, etc.
a bake sale is also a good idea, you could ask your town if you could hold it on a saturday morning or something and in a place where a lot of people go (i.e. town square, train station). post flyers around so people know about it, and get neighbors and friends involved to help bake and sell the goods.
good luck! :)

Dont go door to door. You never know what wierdo is going to answer.

A Walk-A-Thon is always a good idea. I remember my Elementary school did that when 9/11 happened, and we raised about $14,000.

Good Idea. My school did a read-a-thon... and we earned $1 a page for something I am not quite sure...

It was fun though...
