Disappointing service Steakhouse71

I’ve had great steak at all three that you mention. Some on this board always to try to push Shula’s but I’ll take the others any day. Im from Chicago and Shulas never registered on the list of the best steak houses. In fact now that I think about I’m not sure it still is open in Chicago
My son an I tried Shulas one night a couple of years ago….

by Tried I mean we had a reservation,
showed up 10 minutes early, and where told we would be seated in a few minutes,
an hour later, we got Sushi at the swan having never being seated at Shula’s

I had actually forgotten about them

I almost forget La Cellar in Canada used to be really good as well…..

I know review have been mixed, part of the reason I have not gone back…

I haven’t been there in a while, anyone have any updates

It is. I think the one in Orlando is better. Surprisingly, the filet at MJ’s in the Intercontinental is the best steak I’ve had in downtown Chicago. But Gene and Georgetti’s is my go to for food and old-school ambiance - maybe it’s nostalgia since I used to go there with my dad.

I agree we went once. bla. I mean ok, but. . .

Narcoossee's was the most consistent place on property. Didn't go since it re opened. But steak aside all these other places we have mentioned are solid. Lot of really good lamb dishes in the signature places right now. I actually had it 3 times last trip. Jiko's menu has been so good past year too. That was one the lamb dishes I had past trip.

Citricos and flying fish both have a really good pork belly app right now also.

Getting back to SH71. We have had lunch there 3 times since COVID and each time it was really good. Staff was fine. We were tired prob cause it was lunch we are usually back to the room by 1 PM relaxing so we might have been a little passive and just wanted to eat but nothing stood out. The hanger steak on the lunch menu was really good a few weeks ago. I usually just get the burger but wanted something else. Solid. I like it there alot for lunch. Food is good.

We had a similar experience at Steakhouse 71. It was the least friendly and most unwelcoming atmosphere I've ever encountered at Disney (or any restaurant, for that matter). Our server seemed angry throughout our meal, talked at us either looking at the ground or over our heads, and generally made us super uncomfortable every time he approached the table. He was like this at every table, and we saw a few other guests exchanging glances after he'd taken orders. I put it down to an off night at SH71 as many of the Cast Members walking around seemed stressed and unhappy.

Our meal overall was pretty awful and I was so disappointed after being so excited to try this restaurant.

It really was starting to sound like SH71 has one or maybe two bad servers….some people have had really great experiences there, well others have had good food but bad service … however, if you had both bad service and bad food, the problem might be at the managerial level…

Either way most people have reported bad service from a male server …. Maybe he can be found and removed ?

With any luck someone in senior management trolls the tread and can ascertain what or who the problem is and correct or remove them…

The service we have received at SH71 has been efficient without the Rah, rah, Happy Happy Mickey Mickey, service that some people like.

We had a server at Citrico's one night that just would not shut.the.heck.up. We heard all about her, her kids, her family, her dog, lots of other things she talked about after I stopped listening. She really was intruding on our dinner conversation.

Some people like this kind of chatty, 'your kids are SUCH princes and princesses', service. We don't need it. There's a happy medium.

While the bartenders at SH71 have always been more outgoing, the servers we've had have been knowledgeable and efficient without being over the top.

For those that enjoy having and awesome dining experience check out Sergio the main bartender at Narcoosee’s.

Have diner with him sometime

Just wrapped up another fantastic lunch at SH71. I'm still at the table. Service was friendly and fantastic. Food was terrific. Place is BUSY And I haven't noticed any servers who are lacking. Delish!

It has to be a personnel issue...

If it still exists it’s certainly faded from the limelight. So many choices and so many good ones to choose from. Never been to MJs but Ruth Chris Chicago Cut and I know it’s a chain but DW and I love Capital Grille

I have no idea what that possible mean, can to explain
Godfather reference, probably doesn't work here. Implying that "Removing the problem" would result in some nefarious violent action. Sorry, it was a stretch:)

I've had hit or miss service at every single Disney restaurant through the years. The only one I can think of that was above and beyond was V&A, considering how much you pay there it has to be. I'm usually one of those people that can excuse bad service if the food is good or excuse blah food (not bad food just o.k.) if the service is excellent. Give me both and I'm not happy. We have eaten at places like Jiko, Sanaa and Chef Paul and had so so food and bad service or so so food and so so service but bad atmosphere at all three. For that much money, I want a good something.

I think it might have been a perfect storm for you OP. Bad afternoon with an off server. As a person who usually is either solo or with a party of two, I've noticed the trend tends to lean toward the larger tables getting at least more frequent service than the smaller ones if the server has both. I'm guessing that is tip based or the fact that the larger tables can be a tad more demanding.

My family has been in the restaurant business one way or another my entire life - my grandmother owned a small restaurant when I was growing up, my Mama was a manager of a coffee house, one brother has been in restaurant management since he was in his mid 20s, 2 others are chefs - one of whom owned his own restaurant for a while - and another was a line cook. So, I know the ins and outs of restaurants. We always tell the server when we are ordering that we would like our drinks first and our apps. before we eat so we will order our meal when our apps come, please leave the menu. When we are almost finished with our meal, if the server comes to check on us, we tell them at that time whether we are going to want dessert before they even ask and we tell them at that time if we don't want dessert to go ahead and bring the check, even if we aren't done eating. The rule in our family with their restaurants has always been - never make the customer wait for drinks, to order or to pay. We don't really want or need a lot of attention from our server, refill the drinks if they are needed and watch to see if someone is done eating so you can remove their plate. Otherwise, you can leave us alone.

This is us too. We probably need to start waiting to order our entrees too, not just at WDW either. We often just start with a salad. I absolutely hate when the entrees come & we still have a third of our salads to eat. My husband will totally finish his salad while his entree sits there, getting cold. I will start my entree right away & keep eating the salad as another side. But it’s not good timing on the server or kitchens part. To say nothing of the fact that many times we’re at a table for 2 which barely has room for your glasses, bread & entrees as it is.

Shula's is a legit steakhouse, I don't think there are any Disney discounts, but if you're looking for a genuine steakhouse experience, it should be considered.
I go to legit steak houses all round the work….Texas RoadHouse can cook a steak just as well as any of them…

I fact one of the best steak I have ever had was from a BBQ place in Dallas, Hard 8 BBQ…

It more of the dining experience
spending time with the family over a good meal, with good service….

I server that acts like he or she has better things to do, should go do them…

We had bad service on Tuesday at Prime Time over at the Studios. The server was just off, like he was drunk or high the whole time. We are used to shenanigans at PT and this was not it. Then when we were close to finished, I got out my AP so he could ring the bill up with the discount from the get go. We were a party of three, which is covered by one AP, although we are all AP and would have produced documentation if asked. Then he came back with the folder and said he put the discount on but didn’t print the new receipt - could we just do it in our heads? We said no, we would like a receipt please. He acted like this was a huge inconvenience. So he left for a while and came back. Another person in our party was paying and didn’t mention to me until the next day that my dinner was the only one that ended up discounted, not all three as it should have been. I was furious that the server would do that, especially since he could go in after the fact and enter the discount to get more tip from the total paid (he didn’t know we were paying cash until the last moment, so I have to believe that part at least was not deliberate). Until I found out about the discount, I wrote it off to someone having a bad day and let it ride, but if I had known about the discount issue before we left the restaurant that day, I would have been talking to someone about it.

We had another $25 overcharge issue at a different restaurant yesterday, but it was immediately corrected and apologies issued all the way around. That is how I expect Disney to operate, and that night at PT wasn’t it. We had great servers for the most part, but I think more than a few of their servers could use some retraining.

If that happens in the future,
The front desk at your hotel can fix it, if charged back to the room, as well as the manager at the restaurant or guest relations can also fix it
