Hello all. I am somewhat disappointed in the current ticket packages and reservation system now in place for WDW. See if you agree. Here's my experience which will exemplify what I mean:

My wife and I usually visit WDW for about 12 night stays, e.g. arrive on a Thursday late afternoon and depart on a Tuesday afternoon (less congestion it the airports). Our favorite hotel is the Beach Club. When we visit we want to be able to go in and out wherever within the Disney area without worrying about buying tickets or anything, afterall we're on vacation! So in the past I would always book this online and get the park hopper passes which allowed us to do just that. Cut through Epcot to visit the MK in the a.m. come back to the hotel to rest and go to Epcot or a water park in the afternoon or evening, no problem for our entire stay! Coming in on Thursday we would often unpack and then spend the evening at Epcot ending the evening with dinner at the Flying Fish. In fact that has become a sort of tradition.

Now, I cannot book this type of package for more than 10 nights! On top of that the park hopper is now split up and sold in maximum of day passes, with entry to water parks for 5 days? So now I must call to book this and I am told that I can book a room for more than 10 nights but can only buy the 10 day hopper and will need to purchase extra tickets at the park or hotel. Why overcomplicate this which imho is exactly what they have done.

While I am at it this new Photograph package that they now offer for resort stays is nothing more than a blatant attempt to sell more photos and a poor substitute for the past option of a free lanyard/pins and is also a poor business decision by Disney. We would always look forward to receiving the pins and would take advantage of a free round of putt-putt that was also one of the options. I know, I know...giving away the pins and the lanyard was also a blatant attempt to sell more pins (which worked by the way) but here's the difference. How many people bring cameras when they come to WDW? How many places sell those disposable cameras? I would bet almost every family that goes there brings a camera. You even see small kids with cameras and now we even have phones with cameras on them. Why then would you want to compete with this by trying to sell more photos? That is why it is also a bad business decision by them. Plus when I am going through the parks I don't believe that people like being pestered about getting their picture taken. I know I don't.

I understand why they made the options for the park hoppers so people who might only want to visit the 4 main parks would not be paying for parts they did not plan on visiting (e.g. Downtown Dis.) but I wish they would have an all inclusive pass, as they did, for people who stay at their resorts and wish to come and go as they choose! :confused3

Wow, how's that for a first post?

By the way did I mention that my wife and I are Disney addicts! :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I don't know what to say except, Welcome to the DIS!

Yes, but the 14-day ticket is about $350 or so, and the PAP is $550. If you only go once per year, do the 14-day ticket. If you go more often (or can offset your "next year's" vacation to be two weeks earlier than this year's so it falls in the same 365-day period) get the PAPs.

The benefit of the AP is that then you can decide on the spur of the koment to come back and not worry about tickets. The special pins and discounts are nice too.

Or you can join DVC and spend that money on a PAP instead of messing around with park hoppers everytime :)

If you're planning to do the two water parks, the 10 day with the plus pack will cover you.
10 days hopping in the main park. A day at each water park covers 12 days. You can also go over to Disney Quest or the clubs after your water park days. That will just about use your plus pack up, your 10 day hoppers, and your 12 days.

You don't have to use the plusses on the 10 park days if you don't want to. It all expires 14 days after you first use any of it.

They have packages for stays longer than 10 days...just not on the website. Call Disney - always the best way to go. I'm someone who does EVERYTHING online - from paying for the cable bill to ordering groceries - and I *still* manually call CRO instead of using the website for many reasons, cheif of which are the limited changes you can make to the online ressies versus calling normally.

Good luck!

I agree with you about the changes they made to the packages for the tickets. I think Disney has pushed the edge of the envelope at this point. We were in Disney in June and bought park hopper passes for 1 adult and 3 kids (10,11,13 - so really 3 adult passes and 1 child!) My kids really wanted to do a water park. The water parks were always included in the park hopper passes before but now that was an additional upgrade. So in addition to the approx $1000 I spent for tickets, I had to pay another $150 for the parks. It doesn't seem right to me. The time I'm at a water park, I'm not at one of the parks. Park hoppers should include the water parks.

I also remember that when you bought a package, there were great things included. For example, a character breakfastused to be part of the package and that was great. Also, the pins and mini-golf were greats adds as well. Disney has taken things out but pushed the price up. It just seems greedy to me.

With respect to the Photopass feature, I'm actually excited about that. Even though my family has cameras of our own, I'm the one who's always taking the pictures. I never have 'proof' that I was on my own vacation!

Now, we'll have some great photos of the whole family together enjoying Disney!

Whether or not the new MYW offerings are a savings or a cost depends upon what specifically you want in a vacation package. For some of us, the new MYW (with all of it's options) can be a wonderful deal.

This year, we are staying onsite for 7 nights, have the dining package add-on, and 8 day premium passes (hopping and plus options)... and we are actually paying less for our family of three than we did back in 2003 for seven nights stay at the same resort, during the same time of year (October value season) with length of stay park hopper passes. And in 2003 we even took advantage of the special code where you paid for four nights, and stayed for seven--we didn't pay rack rates back then either.

Best advice I can offer is to fully explore all of your options. You may find a great deal yet that will fit with your expectations. ::yes::
