Hello all. I am somewhat disappointed in the current ticket packages and reservation system now in place for WDW. See if you agree. Here's my experience which will exemplify what I mean:
My wife and I usually visit WDW for about 12 night stays, e.g. arrive on a Thursday late afternoon and depart on a Tuesday afternoon (less congestion it the airports). Our favorite hotel is the Beach Club. When we visit we want to be able to go in and out wherever within the Disney area without worrying about buying tickets or anything, afterall we're on vacation! So in the past I would always book this online and get the park hopper passes which allowed us to do just that. Cut through Epcot to visit the MK in the a.m. come back to the hotel to rest and go to Epcot or a water park in the afternoon or evening, no problem for our entire stay! Coming in on Thursday we would often unpack and then spend the evening at Epcot ending the evening with dinner at the Flying Fish. In fact that has become a sort of tradition.
Now, I cannot book this type of package for more than 10 nights! On top of that the park hopper is now split up and sold in maximum of day passes, with entry to water parks for 5 days? So now I must call to book this and I am told that I can book a room for more than 10 nights but can only buy the 10 day hopper and will need to purchase extra tickets at the park or hotel. Why overcomplicate this which imho is exactly what they have done.
While I am at it this new Photograph package that they now offer for resort stays is nothing more than a blatant attempt to sell more photos and a poor substitute for the past option of a free lanyard/pins and is also a poor business decision by Disney. We would always look forward to receiving the pins and would take advantage of a free round of putt-putt that was also one of the options. I know, I know...giving away the pins and the lanyard was also a blatant attempt to sell more pins (which worked by the way) but here's the difference. How many people bring cameras when they come to WDW? How many places sell those disposable cameras? I would bet almost every family that goes there brings a camera. You even see small kids with cameras and now we even have phones with cameras on them. Why then would you want to compete with this by trying to sell more photos? That is why it is also a bad business decision by them. Plus when I am going through the parks I don't believe that people like being pestered about getting their picture taken. I know I don't.
I understand why they made the options for the park hoppers so people who might only want to visit the 4 main parks would not be paying for parts they did not plan on visiting (e.g. Downtown Dis.) but I wish they would have an all inclusive pass, as they did, for people who stay at their resorts and wish to come and go as they choose!
Wow, how's that for a first post?
By the way did I mention that my wife and I are Disney addicts!
