Disappointed with Disney Quest

Thank you all for your comments. I would just like to say that the main reason I posted this was to inform those that didn't already know about the height restrictions. Some of you are correct that perhaps I should've researched more but imagine my surprise because my DD had never had a problem going on any of the rides in the parks. Now granted she won't do the "real" space mountain but as one poster pointed out...it is less than 51" and she loves Test Track, Splash Moutain, Space Tours (which to me is was much more rough than Cyber Space Mountain) etc. so I don't mind paying the 10+ price since she has never been turned away from anything.

I think the difference here is that Space Mountain doesn't loop while Cyber Space Mountain can loop.

Next I explained how disappointed I was that I had paid the full 10+ price for my DD yet she was unable to ride the more popular attractions due to height restrictions. He then proceeded to tell me the restrictions were state mandated? I asked how that could be when there are no such restrictions on the Star Tours ride or Test Track and he didn't have an answer.
He didn't BUILD the ride. Those are Disney's policies...not his.

Sorry you had a bad time.

We went to DQ this last trip with the kids and we had a couple of not so great encounters with 2 CM's. We saw that there was an automatic height reader on the map so DD wanted to try it out for fun. We asked this older CM working by the exit where the machine was, he proceeded to say she didn't need to go to it because he could tell she wasn't tall enough for some rides. I said well she just wanted to see how tall she was, and again he told me she didn't need to go because he can just tell these things. It was so strange.

Finally, I said again well, she just wanted to try it out, so he directed us to the front by the entrance. He then folded his arms and stood there to watch the CM working the door take her height. Turns out she was just over 52 inches and the older CM said well that can't be right because I can tell she's not THAT tall, the poor kid at the entrance looked mortified. The older CM says to the kid working the entrance do it again, it can't be right look at her. The kid said it worked fine and then just stood there and didn't know what to do.

At this point I'd had enough and we just said thank you and walked back into DQ, my DD asked why was that man so rude? I told her maybe he was having a bad day(even though in my head I said because he's big giant jerk honey. ;)) We walked up the steps and she saw Cyber Space Mountain and wanted to try it. The girl working it looked at her and said point blank, she's not tall enough. DD then proceeds to stand by the height check showing she's clearly over the height minimum. I told her we also just came from the automatic reader. She said Well, they didn't give her a wristband. I said well that's a long story but if you'd like you can call down and ask the CM working the entrance he'll confirm I'm not a liar. She just sighed and let us in.

I was pretty fet up but I brushed it off because I wasn't going to let 1 strange power hungry CM and 1 just plain rude CM ruin our fun. But sheesh they were just so rude. Oh well lesson learned get her height checked at the entrance and ask for a wrist band next time!

Hmmm I didn't even know they had an auto height checker or that they gave wrist bands. Nobody mentioned anything when we entered. I will definitely do that next time we attempt to go. Thanks!

We would've never known either, I wish they would've mentioned it at the entrance and it would saved us a lot of trouble too!

I just wanted to share our first experience at DQ last week. We were all excited to try Cyberspace mountain so that was one of our first stops. My 10 y/o DD, who is small for her age at appx. 48", was very upset when she was turned away due to a height restriction of 51". I found this simulated roller coaster ride to be extremely smooth and I was surprised she was not allowed to ride. Our next stop was the Buzz Lightyear ride (I forget the name) which is basically a glorified bumper car ride with vehicles that shoot balls at other vehicles and she was also turned away from that, even though I said I would ride in the same vehicle with her. At this point, she was in tears. I then met up with DH who had taken DS on the Aladdin attraction. At this attraction I guess you have to wear some sort of head gear. My DH had put the head gear on DS & had it adjusted fine but the CM working the ride came over & tightened it so much that DS screamed. When my DH took the head gear off there were two red screw marks on my DS's forehead. At this point I became very upset and asked a nearby CM to speak to a manager. When I calmly (even though I was furious) explained to the manager what happened to DS & showed him the marks, he apologized & said he would speak to the CM working the ride. My DH stated that perhaps they should be trained on the equipment usage more. I then asked about the Buzz ride and he said the only reason she couldn't ride is because the seat belts are too high. I said "then why don't they lower them?" He just nodded at me. I told him that we head to DW at least once sometimes twice a year & this was the worst experience we had ever had. He asked what type of tickets we had & I explained they were park hopper plus tickets so he said he could not offer us a refund. I then explained that I did not ask for a refund nor did I expect one, but that I did want my complaint noted that they need to train the CM's working the rides better & if they are going to restrict the popular rides at 51" then they should charge for 51" up and not ages 10+. He thanked me for being honest because she was so small I could have gotten her in for under 10. I thought that was odd to say and certainly not very DIS-like. Anyway we are not chronic complainers & we usually love everything Disney so we said what we had to say, thanked the manager for his time & continued trying to make the best of DQ. We did enjoy POTC, the River ride & my kids liked the unlimited video games. The manager later spotted us in line for making your own CD & offered us one free for a savings of $15 as a token of apology for my DS's injury. So all in all my DS's injuries were minor & my DD ended up having some fun at DQ, but it was not at all what we had expected from Disney.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'll be better prepared when we go. I'm glad the CM was willing to try and make it better.

Allshookup..... my headgear at Alladdins had a piece missing which also caused it to make a mark on my head because it needs to be tight in order to stay on. I didn't notice it was missing until after we were done when I mentioned to my husband that it hurt this time we rode it and I looked at his and at mine and there was a piece of plastic missing that went between the "screw" and my head.

As far as the automatic height checking, we have been to DQ several times and have seen some people with wrist bands so I asked what they were, but we have never been measured when entering DQ only when entering the rides.

You couldn't have gotten into DQ with a Park Hopper Plus pass, since they do not include DQ on them. Unless they were convention passes?

I was not aware that you went upside down in Mission Space, just around and around... Cyber Space Mountain goes completely around, a full inversion. It's more like RnR, but RnR is made for 48" and up.

Actually Schmeck, this is not entirely true. With an Ultimate Park Hopper Ticket you do gain access. According to www.waltdisneyworld.com:

The Ultimate Park Hopper Ticket provides the "ultimate" access to the most magic from the moment of check in until the end of the day of checkout for guests of select Walt Disney World® Resort Hotels. Guests can come and go as they please through all the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks, Water Parks, Downtown Disney® Pleasure Island, DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park and more.

So you don't need a convention ticket or whatever.

The OP said she had PHP tickets, not UPHP tickets. PHP do not include admission to DQ.

The original post said they used PHP passes, not UPH passes...so DQ was most likely not included....

Anyway, I just also wanted to say thanks to allshookup for posting this. We will have passes when we go in March that include DQ and we've never been. We have DD5 and DS4, and I'm certain height will be an issue. But reading through this thread was very insightful and I will surely be doing more research on DQ.

Yes but the OP did say that it was included in whatever passes they had. So, I'm not sure what relevance this has.

Sorry I would've been clearer if I thought this was going to be an issue. The fact is I bought 3 day park hopper plus (DQ or PI only) from an on-line discount broker. These were not regular park hopper tickets so I did in fact pay a bit extra for the plus option knowing we were planning on a trip to DQ. Hope that answers any questions about whether we paid or not.

So the tickets couldn't be refunded because the passes were bought from an online dealer? That doesn't seem right - if Disney allows passes bought from online dealers, then why can't they refund the ticket, as in crediting your ticket for another plus? Although, if you didn't like DQ, you certainly wouldn't want another plus for that, but maybe you could have taken the kids to the Adventurer's Club at PI?

We had a so-so time at DQ as well. We got stuck in a corner at Buzz, with a couple of immature CM's with no idea how to handle a large group of pre-teen boys that took over the ride. I finally used my 'teacher' voice when the boys started tossing and kicking the balls around when the time ended. The CM's were clueless.

I also got motion sickness on Aladdin, and did not enjoy the helmet tightening on my head at all. Won't try that one again.

But we loved Pirates, and the old video games (no tokens needed!) and the Jungle Cruise raft ride was funny, because we canoe together as a family a lot, and are used to paddling together as a family, we could turn that raft on a dime, the CM said, LOL!

Sorry if I caused a controversy - I was just trying to point out things that didn't make sense to me in the OP's first post.

No apology necessary but just to answer your question...I believe the mngr was unable to refund a portion of any multi-park ticket such as a UPH or in my case a Park Hopper Plus & not because it was purchased online.

But let me clarify....I understand that even though DQ has the strictest restrictions even over Rockin Roller Coaster's 48", they are put in place for the customers saftey & though I was disappointed I did not expect a refund.

Sorry that DQ was not all that you and your kids expected. I know how disappointing it is when a child really wants to ride and can't because of height restrictions. I've been there many times....

I just want to point out why Cyberspace MT. has such a high height restriction compared to other "thrill rides" at Disney. Keep in mind that you can go completely upside down on this ride, but unlike RocknRoller Coaster, you have absolutely NO g-forces holding you back in your seat since it is a SIMULATED roller coaster ride only.. Can you imagine what would happen to a small child with 6 or more inches between her shoulder and the harness when they were suddenly flipped upside down in a stationary car??? OUCH!! That is a major accident waiting to happen! Be thankful that Disney has such strict policies in place because otherwise I think a lot of our small children would get seriously hurt on some of these rides.
