Disappointed with DHS

I think we're going to omit DHS next trip and do US/LOA. I told DH that we would have to give up a Disney park to go to US and from what I've been reading lately US beats DHS.

All I have as must do things are TSM because we have yet to get into...every time we gone FPs were out. Plus, one ToT and RnR of course and a photo with Wreck-It Ralph and Vanelope. DH said he'd love to see Indiana again...ummm no.

We will just hop over to DHS after AK on our AK day as usual and catch what we can before Fantasmic.

I love ToT and RNR but that is about it at Hollywood Studios. I do some other things but they are take it or leave it with the exception of Fantasmic.

Even Toy Story is overrated in my opinion. It has long lines because there is nothing else for small children to ride!

We love the Beauty and the Beast show but we've seen it every time we've been there.

I was wondering ... why don't they have a company of repertoire players that can do several shows? The artists (onstage and backstage) certainly have the ability and they would probably love the challenge and variety of doing different shows every day (or every couple of hours).

It would require re-designing the theater and the sets to use the traditional, hoisted flats (or whatever they're called) and break-down set pieces. The sets would be less glitzy and customized (i.e. built-in) looking but hey - it's the artists' performance that's really drawing the crowd, right?

I would also prefer to have a pit with live musicians, even at the expense of having a smaller cast of dancers/chorus. But I suppose that the musicians union rules WDW and it's probably far cheaper to hire talented dancers than instrumentalists. Not to mention that canned music allows a much fuller sound than the inevitably reduced-sized orchestra that would have to employed, plus it allows the dancing and (probably) canned chorus singing tracks to be synchronized more easily.

I'm probably dreaming - since WDW is far more driven by "first time, only time" guests than DisneyLand, the need to appeal to umpteenth-time visitors by staging fresh and varied live entertainment is not very great.

Or is it? :stir:

Would be nice if they did a sort of "Broadway" street, with a few theaters and co-located several stage shows in that area.

even though I've not been since 1997 and my 5 and 8 year old love Doc McStuffins, Buzz Lightyear, and the like, I've decided to skip the park. I have one child who is obsessed with animals and one child who is obsessed with other countries. I'm not worried that we will miss anything by skipping HS.

I want to like HS, I just... don't. I like the RnR and Muppets 3D, and I love the ToT and the Osborne lights when I'm there in-season, but otherwise I am pretty "meh" about the whole park. It's a half-day for me. I'd probably start leaving it out of my itineraries entirely if not for ToT, which is bar-none my favorite ride in WDW.

Let's be clear, disney has dragged their feet with this park and has been MONEY GRABBING with it for 10 years ago.

It is a decade overdue for a major expansion. And what is there has not been taken care of. Sad.

For me, the reason it is more than a half day park (honestly where I want to spend most of my time other than MK) is because the few rides they have are the ones I want to ride over and over. ToT, RnR, Star Tours (for the multiple scenes), and if TSMM didn't have such insane lines I could ride it all day. Sure, I can ride all 4 within an hour and a half of rope drop and be done with them. But that's not enough!

I also wish HS had more attractions. My boyfriend and I usually stay there for maybe 3 hours and then head to the other parks!

DHS is my favorite park. I love the theming - old Hollywood and the deco feel of it. I love TOT, TSM, Star Tours, the Muppets. Love the drawing academy. It's the one that calls to me to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere and see the sights. I could easily skip AK. To each their own.

I really like this park . It's more adult oriented so maybe that's why. My hubby & I are going to spend 1.5 days there on our upcoming trip.
