Disappointed in seven dwarfs mine ride!

I'm not saying SDMT should be a thrill ride, but I don't really agree with this reasoning for it. The Matterhorn at DL is, I believe, part of fantasyland. I don't consider that a kiddie coaster, and that was done by Walt himself.

Materhorn isn't exactly a very intense coaster. It's kinda slow, though higher up than 7DMT. I have not ridden 7DMT, but it sounds just fine to me, perhaps a little on the short side. I can't wait to experience it though!

I think obviously adults are not the target for this ride, and we should do well to remember that if the 5 year olds like it, then Disney has been successful.

Don't know why you would say that :confused3 I think an ad campaign based on it with a nationally run commercial about it would kinda say that Disney is hyping it , don't yah think?

Why wouldn't they hype their own ride, though? I don't see anything wrong with them running commercials for it. Universal's been doing it, haven't they? Disney wasn't claiming it as some great, big thrill ride as far as I saw. :confused3 It's a fun ride for families.

It looks very well themed and exactly what it was supposed to be. I'm sure everyone will enjoy it if they go into it expecting a well-themed kid/family-friendly coaster.

Where it seems some might be disappointed are those that have watched the Disney commercials. I think they have set themselves up for that by speeding up the ride in the commercials faster than it actually is - that was not a good thing, IMHO.

EDIT: Well, and the Dwarf Rap with Ray-Bans SurferDave just posted.....:sad2:

I was responding to the poster who said Disney didn't hype it, that only people on the Dis board hyped it.

Yes I would hope they would be proud enough of it to hype it. I didn't make the claim that they weren't hyping it another poster did that.

I knew there would be a certain segment of people who would be disappointed, just like they were with the Little Mermaid ride. I don't get how anybody can think Disney would build a thrill ride in Fantasyland? Fantasyland is not imagineered specifically for teenagers and young adults, it is for the whole family (which includes small children).

I haven't been on it yet, but when I do I'm not expecting Tower of Terror type excitement. I know to look for the details and try to grasp the story.

For us personally, we do love thrill rides but can get them anywhere. We have never visited Disney just for Expedition Everest but it's just a bonus. You can find exciting and fun stuff to do if you want to right within Disney property. I have not been on the ride yet nor have I seen the space but I agree with PP's who stated it doesn't seem like it would have been the right space/theme to try to put something fast and furious in.

Excellently put :)

We rode it 3 times last week and loved it. No, it's definitely not a thrill ride, but it had some speed and some turns that were fun! I was very pleased with the theming, just perfect, plus the interaction in the que........just what I expect from Disney! :goodvibes

Still, the Matterhorn has a 42in height restriction, compared to 40in for BTMRR and Gringott's Coaster.

I didn't say Matterhorn was intense. :confused3. BTMRR isn't intense either, and it's considered a thrill ride for MK. I'd put Matterhorn on the same level as BTMRR. It isn't a thrill coaster like RNRR, but it certainly isn't Barnstormer either.

My point is that it can't really be said that a non-kiddie coaster wouldn't be appropriate for Fantasyland when the original Magic Kingdom (DLR) has the first tubular steel coaster in the world in its Fantasyland.

Doesn't make it go any faster. I love the Materhorn, but not because it is an extremely thrilling ride.

Regardless of whether or not you personally think it is thrilling, it is an objective fact that Matterhorn has a greater height restriction than BTMRR or Gringott's, and refutes any notion that a thrill ride cannot be placed in Fantasyland.

The dark scene is pretty amazing and employs some new-style effects. Of course the swinging cars is new and innovative, though I wasn't hugely impressed in the outcome.

When I first saw the images of the cars I wondered if you would be able to feel them swing at all (other than when you really wish they didn't, like when boarding them).

Most roller coasters with swinging cars are designed with the hinge point at the track, but this one is done to ascetically resemble a mine train by being much higher. With the hinge point so far above the track, any point where the car might swing from the momentum would lend to the car being unstable. I would expect the track to be banked to provide stability and dampen any swinging you would sense on the ride. I've been guessing that the only time you really feel these swing is when the guests try to swing them during slow parts of the ride. Is that how it is, or is there an aspect to it I'm not seeing on the pictures and videos?

My kids and I aren't coaster people and really don't like Thunder Mountain so will we like this one?

Apparently there is no difference between advertising and hyping in your world.

Duh, they're going to advertise it with commercials. I don't recall anything in those commercials claiming it was more than it was--that would be hyping. In those commercials, please give me an example of hype. (After you come up with another ride vehicle like this, of course.)

Pretty much all the hype has come from fan sites like this.

BTMRR isn't extremely thrilling either. It is thrilling *for MK*, but it isn't thrilling. The Matterhorn is the same. The Matterhorn is not any more tame than BTMRR is.

This is the first I've seen from someone who just didn't like the ride. Many have stated they don't think it's big enough, long enough or thrilling enough, but they have enjoyed the ride nonetheless.

And I haven't ridden it yet but from what I've heard I think only very senstitive children who otherwise meet the height requirement are going to be scared by it.
