Disappointed in seven dwarfs mine ride!

Here's the thing.....I rode SDMT on Sunday. Was it the best thing since sliced bread? No. But I enjoyed it....as did the rest of my family. Is it a huge thrill ride? Nope. Is it giving US/IoA any competition? Nope. But...it isn't supposed to. It is what it is...a fun ride the entire family can enjoy. Yes, there are things about US/IoA that I love. But, I just don't feel the need to hang out over there for more than 2 days. I don't enjoy just 'being' in the parks there. Not the way I do at WDW. I can go to a WDW park and ride just one or two things and still love it. I enjoy just walking around simply because of the way Disney does theming. I don't think it's a shoddy product at all. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's not as if WDW was promoting themselves as a thrill ride mecca. I don't think I'm 'drinking the Kool-Ade', so to speak.

Oh yes you are drinking the Kool Aid. Again all emotion and no logic at all. I never ever mention Universal Studios, I could care less about that place. I never said that I want WDW to be a thrill ride mecca ever.

What bothers me is that all of you are saying "yes the new attraction that took over 3 years to build and was hyped up the wazoo is nothing spectacular but that's okay, we weren't expecting that. Its okay for Disney to just go at things half *** and we will still stick up for them and flock to their parks."

Sheeple at its best. With all the available technology that is abundant in today's modern society Disney should be building the best attractions ever. Why aren't they? Because the masses are rewarding them for doing things half heartedly.

The last time I was in MK was in November where you could see the top of the highest "drop" of the mine cart rail. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't higher and figured it wasn't going to be all about the thrill but more of the atmosphere. I was upset they took away the Snow White ride, but figured we're getting a better ride in return.

So I guess that's the main question I wanted to ask... do you all feel like the 7DMC is a better ride than Snow White's Scary Adventures? I would hope the answer is an outstanding "YES!" Obviously there will be those that like the nostalgia factor of the old ride, but be honest with yourselves (and us) when answering.

I was expecting lots of character/animatronics and there was only 1 scene at the very end. It won't please roller coaster fanatics and is too scary and not interesting for children. After all the hype what happened? Staff at universal were laughing about it!

I have to say I was seriously underwhelmed by it when I went on it during the 'Rock Your Disney Side' event. I queued for 40 minutes and will only do it with a FP in future. The end was lovely, the standby line theming was okay, the ride itself, is over hyped.

I'm disappointed that yet again, Disney has gone the non-thrill ride route. They have the family-friendly market covered a thousand times over. But they are falling SO far behind in other areas. Did we really need yet another mine train ride? I have no doubt I'm in the minority here, but I want to see innovation and thrills. Then again , I've beaten this drum since the whole Alien Encounter de scarification. Guess folks looking for thrills will continue to find them elsewhere, which is great news for Universal!

I won't go all the way to Orlando for a thrill ride. There are plenty of local theme parks around the country that offer those. I want the Disney experience which in fact DOES give thrills to many different age groups.

Nope, not drinking it at all. It wasn't hyped all that much. Yes, it got a lot of discussion here, on the DIS. But for the average person? Most people didn't know about it. I'm not one of those people that thinks that Disney does nothing wrong. I'm not sure what type attraction you would want to see though.SDMT has space limitations. People complained that everything was 'princess' based...so this attraction seems to be a good fit for those with boys as well as girls.
Lets face it.....the more technology they use, the more capacity for issues. Whenever something is 'cutting age, technology-wise, things seem to go wrong more often. I guess we shall see what happens with Avatar land. Plenty of opportunity for state of the art attractions there.

I am an adult who is extremely excited to learn that Disney has a coaster that I might be able to ride!!!! Various physical issues make all thrill rides at Disney not possible for me. A coaster that a child can handle is perfect! Yay!

If all the people who complain about 7DMT stay OFF the attraction - that will mean more chances for me to get ON it!

Thanks!!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I haven't read this whole thread. Just wanted to say I just got back this morning (6/3) from 9 days at WDW. We rode 7DMT twice. I will say it was just OK. I wasn't expecting a thrill ride, but I was expecting more. I was surprised at how short the ride was. Someone in line with us told is it was 102 seconds long. I actually thought it was less than that.

I also want to say that the ride isn't very Pooh sized friendly. I've never had any problems fitting on any WDW ride but I was VERY, VERY uncomfortable on this ride. The restraint bar was very tight. I'm sure it's because it's a ride geared for younger kids not a 40+ year old fat woman.

Again you're sticking up for their short comings. This is why they can get away with doing so little for the past 15 years.

Disney has excuse after excuse after excuse and the masses believe them. "Space limitations", "new technology breaking down more often", give me a break. Those are as good as the "Animals at AK need to go to bed at 5PM so that is why we have to shut down the park early". Just a bunch of lies so they can make more $$$$.

I found it great, no big drops (which is what my 4 year old prefers). It was well done, we rode it on a "soft opening" day we waited in line for 95 minutes. They have interactive areas in line that make waiting not so terrible. The ride does go fast but it is so smooth -not jerky at all. It has banked turns instead of drops so this makes it more enjoyable for my little ones. Overall, I think they did an excellent job. My 4 year old was scared on Goofy's roller coaster but actually loved this. She's a big Snow white fan. Hope this helps :tinker:

As the op, I just want to say what I said: it disappointed me. I want DW to do well. I have visited yearly since 1971. I had high expectations that were dashed. Personally I DON't think it is better than the original snow white. I like themed rides. Didn't see much theme. Sorry. On the other hand I love the magic bands. They worked great and had lots of advantages. I don't think THEY are a boondoggle.

Does 7DMT load pretty fast? How is the seating configuration? (we would be a party of 3)

How does it compare to BTM? DS loves BTM and we try to ride as many times as possible. Is 7DMT worth trying to ride more than once? (would you use a second FP on your 2nd day at MK)

(Last year we rode the new Mermaid ride, and I can't see us riding that again, unless there was no wait and we wanted to sit and cool off for a minute.)

Five cars, 2 rows per car, 2 people per row.

Smoother and calmer than Big Thunder.

Snow White terrified me as a kid, and when I went with my niece (5 at the time), it terrified her. So when I heard it was going "bye bye" I was :banana::banana:.

I don't know, maybe it's me... but I hate superhero movies and superhero rides. And I couldn't care less about Harry Potter. I have no need for another thrill ride at Disney. SDMT looks awesome. I'd take it over every single ride in Universal Studios.

The whole Universal vs Disney World thing is odd to me (especially on this website). WDW is more than a place with some rides in it. It's an experience. It's beautiful. Resorts, dining, beautiful landmarks. You immerse yourself in this magical place separate from the real world.

Universal is full of rides based on movies that were universally (pardon the pun) panned by critics. It's directed to adolescents pumping testosterone. Transformers? Please...

Take away Harry Potter and it's no different than every Six Flags park in the country.

If you're going for thrill rides based on poorly written remakes and sequels, clearly there is a place for you in Orlando.
I don't see how you can compare Universal to Six Flags. Have you been to either one? Clearly not.

I'm no adolescent and I'm not much for thrill rides. I see others like me at the Universal parks. Please at least say things that ring true.

It does load pretty quick. 2 seats next to each other.

Compared to BTM, 7 dwarfs is a lot smoother. Not as many drops as BTM, but I feel their pretty similar. Their also pretty close in speed, or at least they feel that way. If you like BTM, you'll like 7 dwarfs.

And yes I'd recommend riding more than once. I rode it opening day at rope drop, then rode it that night with a FP and I thought it felt like it was moving a lot faster than earlier in the day. Then the following day we waited in line for a little over an hour because of the weather. They halt the ride if any chance of lightning of course. So after it passed we got to ride it while it was still sprinkling outside, and I must say it was fun. Again, that time felt just as fast as the night before, which still both felt faster than our first time on opening day.

So I'd definitely ride it more than once. And we preferred to sit toward the back. My third time I was in the very last car and it was my favorite spot out of the 3 (closer to front, middle, then last row is where I rode). In the back you feel the drops more as you always have the momentum and aren't in the front waiting for the back of the train to go through the lift of the drop.

Well, except for the pre-existing Dueling Dragons and Flight of the Unicorn. Two out of the three rides there.
This is true but they did re-theme those two rides. They even added a huge animatronic Buckbeak to Flight of the Unicorn and he still moves. In fairness, he doesn't have a giant mountain on top of him though. :)

They wimped out on Dueling Dragons, not much rework there at all.
