Disappointed in How They Handled This

Chances are, first off, that it's not a Disney-owned and operated store. Most of the WS stores are independently owned by vendors from within the country represented. So you're not dealing with Disney, per se, you're dealing with the specific shop. So there's a difference there in expectations.

No - When you walk into Epcot it doesn't say "Epcot, a collection of non-related shops and resturants owned by an unrelated group of people. Shop and eat at your own risk" It say "Disney's Epcot" Which to me means, if Disney's willing to put their name on it they take responsibility to control the quality and service of everything in their park. When I go to the mall, it is very clear that each store is responsible for it's own prices, policies, and merchandise. The mall is not responsible for it's stores. It also doesn't charge to get through th mall doors and make a living on the name and reputation of the mall.

However, when I go to the local Safeway, everything inside is Safeway. The deli, the flower shop, the bakery are all Safeway and benefit or lose based on Safeway's name and reputation. The stores in Epcot are all Epcot and benefit from being part of Disney, so they should live up to the expectations of being disney.

As for the $10.00 shipping charge. If I'd purchased this item in the Disney shops (anywhere in Disney) I'd have expected to pay about $7.00 in shipping (what I paid to ship single items home last time I was at the World in May 2004), so I think the $10.00 is high. However, if I'd gotton home without a piece of a set I'd purchased, had boxed at the store, and not unpacked until I arrived home (If that is indeed what the OP did), I'd not expect to pay for the missing item or the shipping. I'd expect the store to make it right. If at any time I'd opened the boxed item, I'd probably think I could have misplaced the tray, considered it my fault, and not even called Disney.

I'm going to have to jump on the band wagon and agree that for a tea set to be shipped, costing $10 is reasonable. That's how much it would cost if it was from FedEx. (My Dh use to work for FedEx. Or he calls it the Evil Empire.)

I agree.

Just my opinion but I think Disney should make it right by sending a tray. We were at the shop at MS in July my son had put off buying a ceramic model of the MS ship. They were marked down and he didn't think about buying then that there might not be anymore. The manager offered to sell us the display on top of the shelves. He and another CM carefully got it down for us. It was 20.00 Okay no box we will package it for you. Younger CM (TEEN) proceeds to wrap tightly in wrapping. OOps back wing broke off. This is the LAST one. Oh I'm sorry I will refund your money. My son works with models and thinks he might be able to fix it when we get home. Okay can you mark it down some since we already paid before broke it. Wait 20 minutes for a supervisior. We can only take of 10%. I would have thought 50% as they would not be able to sell it in this condition. I thinks that Customer Service not only at Disney but everywhere is the luck of the draw on the person you are dealing with.
