Disappointed--Cabin was filthy!

We just returned from a week long stay at the Fort Wilderness cabins. What a huge disappointment. The rooms looked fine, but they were really dirty: The fridge looked like it had been in a frat house, the dishwasher was dirty inside, there was a pile of dirt in the corner of the bathroom, and the floors were so filthy that when my 10 month old twins crawled on the floor, their feet and hands came back black. I'm not exaggerating. We would have changed rooms, but with three kids and being booked next door to my husband's family, it would have disturbed too many people. Still, we were really uncomfortable in the cabin.

On the plus side, I can't say enough good things about the customer service. I just wonder why our cabin was so dirty? I didn't want to say anything to my husband about it, but he finally said something. And really, that's saying a lot. He never notices that sort of thing.

I probably won't stay in another Disney resort after this experience.

Our cabin was left dirty one of the 7 days we were there and I called housekeeping as soon as we walked in and saw it...the next day the maid appologized for her replacement (she was off on the DIRTY day) and our cabin was spotless. Dont give up on the resorts....mousekeepers are hourly employees and will probably get away with as little work as they are allowed to but its not Disneys policy to let sloppiness go unanswered.

I would have definitely let the housekeeping manager know. I do that at any hotel if the room is not up to par (and it's happened both on and off property). Sometimes we have a really great full time Mousekeeper, but a slacker on their two days off. Sometimes we have a so-so Mousekeeper, but a really great one on their two days off. But if my room was that dirty, I would have been on the phone immediately after check in, and there would have been no tips until it was made right.

I wouldn't let it keep me from staying on property, because it could happen anywhere. But I would certainly speak up the next time.

Wow, we're here now and our housekeeper is great. We;ve had her before too. The cabin is spotless everyday and she is quick! Plus she leaves towel animals every day and told us to take them home with us. We are in the 2800 loop.

Apparently there aint no home cooked breakfast for BigDaddyRog THIS morning!!

Playpen compliments of Disney...empty. Everything in its place, as usual.

Just wanted to make SURE I wasnt gettin fed this mornin....

Yeah, I COULD be eating breakfast right here, I chose NOT TO!

This is why the playpen's empty. Oh yeah, he's bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready for the parks!!!

Oh great, NOW they fix coffee....and we should have been at the park 15 minutes ago....

She's making progress...she stumbled from the bed to the sofa...

Yeah, good idea...5 year olds and coffee....no wonder her eyes are SATANIC RED and BULDGING out of her head!!!

Oh my gosh I wish that I would have taken pictures of our tt whenever we were there, social services might have even came out, it quickly became a hell hole .

On a serious note, whenever we stayed at the Music Resort the front desk gave us our room number and when we opened the door the room had not been cleaned and we had to have this room because it was adjoining...we called front desk, they told us to go eat or shop and be back in two hours and we did and the room was spotless whenever we came back. You really should have just let the front desk know, no matter where you stay things do get over looked and stuff just happens.

Sorry about that putting a damper on your trip !

The same thing happened to my father-in-law he said the cabin was filthy. Hes not going to keep his mouth shut and paying the money folks do for those cabins no one should. He called the front and they had three maids rip and roar through the entire cabin.The amount of money everyone gives Disney they need to rub our backs and feed us.

We have stayed at the cabins many times--and have had experiences ranging from deplorable conditions to pristine conditions. I know our best experiences were in the 2800 loop. We told mousekeeping about the good the bad. Once we even moved cabins, which isn't easy with 4 kids, and it wasn't much better!
You should mention it, though.

We were in the 2800 loop...the mousekeeper that appologized and did such a good job was a little jamaican sweetheart...she got tipped alitlle extra after she explained the situation.

Thanks for your responses. The reason I didn't complain was twofold: One, housekeeping looked like they were busting their behinds and I felt guilty. I'm usually pretty outspoken, but I just couldn't do it and I couldn't imagine that much would have changed. For one thing, they would have literally had to trash the refridgerator, it was that bad. The other reason was that our other family members were next door to us. I didn't want them to have to move as well (we wanted them next door so the kids could go back and forth easily) and I really didn't want to uproot our three little kids and all our stuff. So, we just put up with it. Looking back, we probably should have complained. But if you'd seen how hard housekeeping was working, you would have felt guilty too . . . . .

On the other hand? The crowds at the parks were so low, I had a great time anyway. Best Disney trip ever. Except the stinky, dirty room.

I had a terrible experience at pop centruy a few years back ...havent been back! My youngest who is now ten will not go back either....Boy girls learn early how to twist daddies finger....

I had a terrible experience at pop centruy a few years back ...havent been back!

What happened...because Ive been trying to decide between tent camping and an All Star for early September. I'm leaning towards the tent(or possibly renting a MH), but If you could kick me off the fence onto the FTW side, It would make my decision alot easier.

When we stayed at the All Star Sport Resort it was nice and clean. Some expected wear and tear but otherwise clean. The reason we stayed at the resort hotel was because we had a gathering of 16 family members otherwise I would have camped. Thats the nice thing about the camper, we keep it spotless and don't let the bed bugs bite. And the last time we looked at the bath houses, they were spotless. I'm surprised that a supervisor doesn't check the rooms after they are cleaned. Hope you had a great time otherwise.

You know my feelings on FtW vs. Other Disney Resorts. Just rent a Class C MH for your crew & come back to FtW! If you come late October, you'll be just as amazed by the Halloween Decorations as you were the Christmas ones!

I loved your pictures! And.... don't go braggin' about leavin' da seat down. With a wife and 4 daughters, you've been "conditioned"!! (Your adorable lil' grandson isn't quite old enough to know 'bout "da secret of da seat"!)

Last year when we decided to book a last minute trip to Disney, the Fort was the only place available. We love Disney World, so we decided to give it a try.

Our taxi first took us to Wilderness Lodge by accident, and since we were all a bit cranky from our commute down to Florida, we didn't appreciate the accident (they should really make the names a little different...). Luckily, a very nice castmember drove us via van to the Fort.

When we arrived at our cabin, I thought it was quite cozy. Unfortunately, all of the golf carts were being rented, and my grandmother desperately needed aided transportation. She has a lot of trouble walking. The buses were a HUGE pain for us, especially since sometimes they ran infrequently.

I personally thought the cabin itself was nice, but I felt soooo far away from the rest of Disney World. Transportation was our biggest issue

As for the cabins, I guess it depends on your cleaning lady and the people that stayed in it before you
