jo - what's a toblerone? just curious! you and my mom should get together - she's a golfing maniac! i played growing up, but once i moved out of the house i haven't picked up a golf club since. just not very interested in it. i was decent at it though - what's wierd is i'm right-handed, but i'm a left-handed golfer. :confused3 my sister was once ranked 1st in the state in tennessee when she was like 15. and then she did the same thing as me - never picked up another golf club once she went to college. both of us love soccer, so i think we were somewhat distracted from golf!
I know Melinda's answered but it is delicious Swiss choccie in the shape of a mountain you can even get snow capped which has white chocolate at the top :thumbsup2

I know that! It's CHOCOLATE! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm........
Thanks Melinda

Anyone have any experience they can share? TIA!
Amber I haven't but my DSis had her top lip and underarms lasered a few years ago and is over the moon with the results, she has very dark hair so your blonde hair would probably take less treatments, she said it felt like an elastic band twanging her skin

oh, okay! i've seen that stuff before...never had any though. wasn't joey eating one of those on an episode of friends once?
You've so got to try it :cloud9:

I agree with you...my best friend is an only child and she turned out fine!!! Some people say the harshest things without even knowing certain situations.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I wish I knew you all in real life. My friends here aren't being so supportive. :sad1:

Okay, so OT question... has anyone ever had laser hair removal? I have been contemplating it. I have some buggary hairs on my chin and neck that I'm tired of plucking every 2 or 3 days, and some very fine blond hair that grows on my upper lip. A friend of mine is having it done and it takes quite a few appointments. She said maybe more than 6 because her hair on her chin is being stubborn.

Anyone have any experience they can share? TIA!
I had electrolysis done a few years back but it wasn't working and I quit doing it. Now I just wax my eyebrows every 3 weeks. Never done laser though. :confused3

SIL was a trip at brunch this AM. When she found out I choose not to work this summer she passed the nastiest look on to us. Um hello?? She doesn't work!! Niece was a real piece of work today too. I had moved her beach towel and shorts so I could sit down on the porch swing and she gave me a nasty little look and started kicking me subliminally under the chair. just b/c I moved her towel!! Then her dad asked her three times to not do something and she ignored him, then laughed at him and said, "No Daddy...I'm doing it!" And she did!! He just walked away. And everyone else thinks she is so precious. HA!!

Dh's grandmother had some not-so-nice things to say about the timeshare. Said it was a waste of money. I had to walk away before I said something I couldn't take back. Oh how I love the in-laws!!
On a positive note the grandmother said she "found" our wedding card and wants Ray to pick it up this week. That was a surprise!!

I hope everyone is having a great Father's Day!! :flower3:

hi peeps just marking my spot...

wonders - get mom out of the room, she could seriously be impeeding your progress...i know my boys always paid more attention to me if i was inthe room when they were little. they didnt have therapy or anything. but I do think you should just approach it as a "lets just try this and see if it works" approach to thsi child. mom might be the problem.

This is a really tough subject. My supervisor and I have discussed this to no end and it ended with us deciding to mention the idea to mom. She really frowned upon it, said it was a disaster when they tried it at OT (occupational therapy) and that she even has to sneak out of the house in the a.m. to go to work (the kid goes to the grandparents house). I discussed this negative reaction to my supervisor who pretty much said that as much as she would like mom to leave, I just need to deal with her being there. Unfortunately, I'm not really in the position to defy my supervisor's wishes so I've chosen to just drop it. Just so you get an idea of this mom - we also discussed him coming at least twice a week instead of once a week, like he's doing now. He really should be coming 2-3 times a week. Mom said she didn't see the point. :confused3 My point is your child has 30 words that he barely uses and he should have over 200 by this age. :rolleyes1

Hi Bee! :flower3:

oh, okay! i've seen that stuff before...never had any though. wasn't joey eating one of those on an episode of friends once?

Yep! Everytime I see Toblerone I think of Friends. It is actually really really good.

Hi Peeps!

So I have been MIA for the past week and a half. This new clinic assignment at school plus some harsh "constructive criticism" from one of my supervisors has had me super busy. Which leads me to my reason for posting - I'm in need of some Peep advice.

I have a client who is almost 2 and a half, severe language delay and personally my supervisor and I think there is something else there but we have to deal with what we know. I had him for a client last semester and this semester so I've been seeing him for awhile and his progress is S L O W. Very slow. Mom is in the room for sessions and has refused to separate because she *thinks* he will be upset about it so I've chosen not to pursue it further and just deal with her being there. It's annoying because he runs to her and she sometimes interrupts me to have him say a word or to clarify something he said. And she becomes very defensive when either I or my supervisor discuss his language use, like how does he communicate at home, etc.

Anyway, long story short, I'm at a brick wall with thinking of activities for this kid. He loves cars, bubbles and stacking rings but I can only get so much out of him with those materials. And his attention span is super short - I tried to sit at the table with him once to do an activity and he last about 20 seconds. My supervisor isn't too much help with thinking of materials - she just rambles on in her fancy lingo that I guess I should start using but I think it just sounds like she is trying to sound extra smart  .

I know a lot of you have children or work with kids so if you could spare any ideas on what a delayed 2 yr old might like I'd really really appreciate it. Even if you don't think it would work in a speech treatment session, tell me anyway because your ideas might help me think of some new ones.

Thanks! I miss you guys and I'm going to try to start posting again soon. I just have had no desire to be near a computer if I didn't have to be so no DISing for me. Hope everyone has been well!
okay this subject i do know because my ds 10 has a speech problem and has had it since 2 ... this is my experience . he started speech at 2 1/2 and at first i was in the room with him and he did the same thing ran to me so the speech therapist asked me if we could try with me out of the room and of course i said yes.and guess what?he did a thousand times better.she did alot of picture cards and emphasist on saying the word right, she also suggested letting him chew taffy to get his jaw muscles moving . (i know it seems wrong to suggest taffy chewing but it did help completely. i didn't have any problem leaving i was right outside the door and if he needed me i was there.

this is how his sessions went we would get there and the first 5 mins he would have a treat to make the seperation easier (taffy) then they would work on the picture cards , then a coloring page related to what kj liked( it was bear and the big blue house, ) she would go through what the pictures were, my son's problem was memory retention/comprehension and slurring of his words. and she told me to let him watch bear and practice saying the words over and over (i also taught him some sign language so i could communicate with him for my sanity) get you at that time he was not even close to being ready for preschool or anything, but after 6 months and alot of one on one time with the therapist and myself he did get to advance to headstart pre-school. now he just has speech therapy twice a week and does alot better, i honestly believe it was because we solved the problem so young that he was able to do alot better.i don't know if that helped:confused3 i feel like i babbled on .:rotfl:

Wonders10: you would think the mom would want to help her child if my therapist said my son needed to come 14 days out of the month i would be there, well she will be wishing she had listened to you when her child is in school failing miserably because she really did not care about her child's welfare .. that is a tough situation to be in good luck..:confused3

My Katie did intensive seech therapy for 2 years--4 hours a week  They looked at a lot of picture books--1 picture per page that went along with what sound they working on. They also worked on things like cup, eat, drink... Another thing they did was games and they worked on certain words with those games. If I think of more I will let you know. Good luck.

I just wanted you all to know that for kicks I tried on the skinny capris this AM (been about a month) They fit!!! They are low rise so I don't find them as comfortable as my current capris but, once again, THEY FIT!!! 5 more pds would make them a perfect fit but don't worry...I'm not that girl wearing low rise pants that obviously do not fit!! :rotfl:
:cool1: :thumbsup2
ray and i have already decided that if we have any kids we're only having one. i know some people will take issue with that but we have our reasons. it's called keeping our sanity!!! :lmao: just kidding. there are other reasons. i was an only child until my sister was born when i was 7 and since i didn't live with my dad (she and my brother are my dad and stepmom's children), i still was sort of an only child. i think it made me less selfish.....i valued the time i had with my friends and wanted to share things with them more because i always wanted a playmate. and it taught me to be very independent and use my imagination. not that kids with siblings aren't independent and imaginative, but you know what i mean.

jo - what's a toblerone? just curious! you and my mom should get together - she's a golfing maniac! i played growing up, but once i moved out of the house i haven't picked up a golf club since. just not very interested in it. i was decent at it though - what's wierd is i'm right-handed, but i'm a left-handed golfer. :confused3 my sister was once ranked 1st in the state in tennessee when she was like 15. and then she did the same thing as me - never picked up another golf club once she went to college. both of us love soccer, so i think we were somewhat distracted from golf!
You and Ray know better than anyone else on what you should do. Yes, there are people who always want to put in their .02, but when it comes down to it it is yours to decide. I am gald that you know that know than later on regrestting having more kids. Again, you may change your mind later on and if you don't that is fine to. For us we always wanted 3 and after #2 she was and is a handful we decided we were done and then lookie we have #3 many years later. Yes, it change the dynamics of our family, but I would not change it. We decided we did not want him growing up per say with siblings and then bam they are gone for college and such with him by himself for as long as he would be--so we decided to go for number 4. We have gotten a lot of flack (sp) for that as well. Again, it was our decision. My point is go with your HEART!!

I also love SOCCER played for 15 years--5 of those years were very competitive years.
Just checking in.. hard day here..

OUr families and friends do not understand why we bought into DVC!! They won;t say it, but it comes across as we are spending too much money there that could be used elsewhere. It makes us happy---just thinking about going again and we all light up. TO us it is not a waste of money, but a great way to make great memories. :thumbsup2

TOday after church oldest son was not paying attention to what he was doing and tripped over a chair in the sanctuary and had to get 3 stiches over his eye. Other than that it has been a great day. Gave DH a new grill--we really needed it--the kids aslo gave him an itunes card, a cafe card for church (so he could get snacks and such before church) and a new pillow (he asked for it). Off to my parents for dinner.

Have a good one.

Melinda - I have a question about your formula for calories per day to lose weight. (goal weight x 12...) You mentioned a friend of yours had a lot to lose so she picked a couple og goal weights and recalculated as she lost more weight. So you think that is better than just going for the ultimate goal weight. i.e. I was thinking of doing 170 for my first goal weight and then when I hit that do 140, my second goal weight. Also, about how much would you say you lost per week? I know in the beginning I should be able to lose up to 2 lbs a week so I don't want to eat too much to the point that I'm only losing .5 or 1 at the most.

Thanks for the help...and those that also follow this formula, feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

Thanks so much for your input. For the most part, she is a very nice lady except when you bring up his speech or progress or anything, she immediately becomes defensive and puts up a brick wall. I do understand that she may have some guilt feelings or just be plain old defensive about something being atypical with her child? I don't know. He is adopted so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it? I don't know...just grasping at straws now.

As for leaving the room...you brought up a great point. You were right outside if he got so upset that you needed to intervene. I get that he might be upset. But she can choose to stand outside the door or we have parent observation rooms literally right down the hall where she can see and hear what is going on. If he is super upset, she could just come in. :confused3 This is her 3rd semester getting treatment at our clinic (started in August of 2006). 2 of those semesters have been with me. She specifically asked to have me again as her clinician but I don't really feel like I'm helping all that much. Every idea you mentioned is great but I imagine doing it with him and I see it being a disaster.

Anyway, thanks for all your advice. I'm going to try a couple new things this week so I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.

I totally understand. Not trying to talk you into it...just saying there was more to be a mom than I imagined. Sounds like you've thought it through.

Thanks!!

I totally respect your decision. In teaching, DH and I see the results of people who have no interest in being parents but cave to the pressures of others. I truly believe that being a parent, or being married for that matter, is a calling from God, and not everyone is called to that path in life.

Thanks for your support, it really does mean a lot. You guys are the best!

Dh's grandmother had some not-so-nice things to say about the timeshare. Said it was a waste of money. I had to walk away before I said something I couldn't take back. Oh how I love the in-laws!!

We have decided right now NOT to tell my parents about DVC, exactly for this reason. My in-laws are WDW freaks and they think it is a great idea, but my parents are way more conservative and I am sure I would get a lecture.

Peeps... I stepped on the scale today (bad me, I know)... thinking that with my bad drinking binge from last night that I would be up a lb or two... and I was thoroughly shocked to have it read 188.4!!! HOLY CRAP!! I haven't been below 190 in at least a year and a half... that brings me to 30 lbs lost!!!!! I know at least a lb or two of that will find me before Fri weigh-in, but still...

As to the calorie intake thing, wonders... maybe it is just me and my body chemistry, but I find that staying around 1200 calories gives me the best weight loss results, about 2-3 lbs a week, and I exercise 5 days out of 7. Eating over 1500 and I don't seem to do so well. My initial goal weight is 170 (for Sept) and my final goal is 145. My scale even tells me that 2040 calories, what the x12 formula would tell me to eat for a 170 goal, is what I would need to maintain.

I may plateau as I get closer to goal, and then I may start alternating 1500 and 1200 days.

:cool1: AWESOME!!! you need to update your ribbon!

i just had the most HORRIBLE experience. we let the boys (our dogs) out in the back yard after they ate their dinner and when they came back i smelled this disgusting, nasty, horrible, vomit-inducing smell. i smelled sherman's face and it was coming from him. then i smelled eli's back and he smelled too, but not quite as strong. i went outside to see what they had gotten into and found that they had ripped open the beetle bag. i put one of those japanese beetle traps out a few days ago because the beetles here are AWFUL right now and they had ripped open the bottom, so they were probably eating beetles mixed with stagnant rain water........YUCK!!! :scared: it was so gross! i had to give each of them a bath and i was gagging the whole time. i love my doggies but.....just ICK!!!!!! :headache:

Hi Peeps! I haven't had time to check in yet this weekend. I hope everyone is having a good day! Yesterday my husband and I went shopping and then we had dinner with his mom and dad. Today, I cleaned the house and made dinner for my mom and dad. (grilled chicken and potatoes:thumbsup2 ). I tried to make good choices at both of those meals. I see a lot of chatting has been going on here so I am going to catch up and do some quoting.:)

Hi Peeps...been away from the boards for most the weekend it seems...not much really happening. Had to make 2 cakes today-one for my DH's b-day and one for my step-sis's husband's b-day. They both wanted different flavors, so 2 cakes it was!

One of my horses got sick yesterday AM.
Hope horsey is doing 100% better by now!

thought i'd share some pics from our babysitting adventure last night. we watched our neighbors' 18-month-old, maddyx, while they went to a baseball tournament. she was such a little cutie pie!
SO ADORABLE!!!

Hey! big news in my family. We just heard my nephew is going to be a cast member on MadTV next year. He was always a funny kid, and has been making a living as a comedian in a comedy club in Amsterdam for the last couple of years. I'm so proud! I used to change that kid's diapers.
HOW COOL! Congrats to him!! That is a big deal!

:rotfl: I just think I would feel better in them with a few more pds off. Perhaps by WDW so I can bring them??

I think it was Sandy that said I would be able to fit into them by WDW!! :goodvibes

Thanks you guys for all your support...I would not have made it this far without you!! :flower3:

Off to get a haircut, brunch with the in-laws (we aren't going to eat much) and then Red Lobster with my dad and his gf. Have a wonderful day everyone!! :wizard:
:dance3: SKINNY pants! WHOOHOOTY!

I have a love hate relationship with my inlaws too. I get along ok with some of them and my mil has decided I am just an awful person. She purposely makes trouble for me with DH...not sure why.

My step-sis has children that pretty much do what they want. They were here today for the b-day parties and the oldest one is so rotten. She was taking things that were off limits out and I told her no...and she snapped back to me that she as going to do it anyways. BRAT. And her parents let her. She is 4, so she knows better. She hits her 2 yr old sister just because she wants to or is mad. So her parents spank her. Way to teach her hitting is wrong. It was a long day here....

i just had the most HORRIBLE experience. we let the boys (our dogs) out in the back yard after they ate their dinner and when they came back i smelled this disgusting, nasty, horrible, vomit-inducing smell. i smelled sherman's face and it was coming from him. then i smelled eli's back and he smelled too, but not quite as strong. i went outside to see what they had gotten into and found that they had ripped open the beetle bag. i put one of those japanese beetle traps out a few days ago because the beetles here are AWFUL right now and they had ripped open the bottom, so they were probably eating beetles mixed with stagnant rain water........YUCK!!! :scared: it was so gross! i had to give each of them a bath and i was gagging the whole time. i love my doggies but.....just ICK!!!!!! :headache:

EWWW! GROSS! Another reason why I love my cats :rotfl:

It was a very long afternoon with the step sis's kids here. My DD loves to play with them but they were all getting wild. I have a huge headache  And of course DH decides to pick a fight with me. Gee...now is the time to do that. I am fuming at him, but too tired to argue. That is pretty sad! He just knows the buttons to push and the things to pick on to really set me off and he did. Now I am tearing up again....sorry. Rambling post over....

Well, good morning all!
Not to shameless plug my own PTR.. especially now that I have some avid readers...
BUT I did just post a few pics (and posted the other day as well) about seeing Beauty and the Beast on Broadway! It was amazing! Read away, please, while I catch up on my Peeps posts! Still so excited! So magical!! :)

I am glad that you had a good time!:thumbsup2

One of my horses got sick yesterday AM. Happy thoughts for my pony please!!

How is your horse doing? I hope he is feeling better!

 Between your supervisor and the uncooporitve mother you have your hands full! You could suggest that she leave the room just for one session so you can see what he is like without her. If she wants to stand by the door or go into the observation room that would be fine. I am trying to think of things that you can do that would keep him focused. I am just going to brainstorm a little: music and movement activities, play dough, magnets, label things in the room and have him point to things with a "special" pointer, have a picture book with real photographs (maybe his mom could give you some of his family) and other things he would recognize. Then it would be more personal to him. Above all, you are doing everything you can to help him and it is obvious that you really care about your clients. You are doing a great job!!

Hey! big news in my family. We just heard my nephew is going to be a cast member on MadTV next year. .

That is so cool!:cool1:

I just wanted you all to know that for kicks I tried on the skinny capris this AM (been about a month) They fit!!! :

Okay, so OT question... has anyone ever had laser hair removal? I have been contemplating it. I have some buggary hairs on my chin and neck that I'm tired of plucking every 2 or 3 days, and some very fine blond hair that grows on my upper lip. A friend of mine is having it done and it takes quite a few appointments. She said maybe more than 6 because her hair on her chin is being stubborn.

Anyone have any experience they can share? TIA!

No experience with laser removal but I feel you on those stray chin hairs. I hate it because I try to check everyday. Sometimes I look and I will see one and I think how long has that been there and how many other people have seen it?:scared1: It is such a pain!

Just checking in.. hard day here..

But, wanted you to all know.. who may be wondering..

I AM STILL ALIVE... MISSING YOU ALL..

TRYING TO FIND BELINDA!!!

Love, all y'all

Hi Bee!:flower3:

oh, okay! i've seen that stuff before...never had any though. wasn't joey eating one of those on an episode of friends once?
!

That is the one! I was in German Club in h.s. and we sold German candy for a fundraiser every year. The Toblerones were the first things to sell every time.

.

I know at least a lb or two of that will find me before Fri weigh-in, but still...
.

That is awesome! Your deterimination is inspiring!:cheer2:

i just had the most HORRIBLE experience. we let the boys (our dogs) out in the back yard after they ate their dinner and when they came back i smelled this disgusting, nasty, horrible, vomit-inducing smell. i smelled sherman's face and it was coming from him. then i smelled eli's back and he smelled too, but not quite as strong. i went outside to see what they had gotten into and found that they had ripped open the beetle bag. i put one of those japanese beetle traps out a few days ago because the beetles here are AWFUL right now and they had ripped open the bottom, so they were probably eating beetles mixed with stagnant rain water........YUCK!!! :scared: it was so gross! i had to give each of them a bath and i was gagging the whole time. i love my doggies but.....just ICK!!!!!! :headache:

Yuck!! I am glad they were fine besides being stinky! I didn't quote the other having kid posts but I wanted to add that I understand the pressure that other people can put on you to have a child. I get asked like once a week when I am going to start a family. I think it is cool that you aren't letting anyone pressure you into having a lot of kids just because it is what they want. You have to do what is best for you and DH. Your babysitting adventure pictures are so cute!

My Ray would have thrown up..he can't even clean up the dog crap in the backyard without vomiting..no joke!! But dead beetles? Eww!!! My old dog used to roll in horse poop when I took her to the stables..she would have stains all over her. Needless to say she didn't go that often!! :rotfl:

The painting is finally done!! I just finished up the trim..tomorrow I will pull the tape off and touch up any areas..I know of a few spots but it should only take a few minutes. I'll put the furniture back Tues. night and the room will be tip-top before we leave. Phew!!! I couldn't go to WDW with that mess lingering...OCD overboard!! ;)

Oh no punkin!! I would have thrown up for sure.

My ribbon is sadly as updated as it gets... I started my weight loss efforts at 218, but joined WISH at 201. So I have 2 more lbs to go before I get my WISH 15 lb ribbon. Someday I want to have a 50 lb ribbon!!

Hope everyone had a great and skinny weekend!

 Sorry about the fight with DH. It sounds like you need a warm bath and a good book. Just relax for a while if you can! I hope you feel better soon!

That is cool! I wouldn't want to come home to a mess either. Are you going to post pictures so we can see the color? You were doing Mainstreet Yellow right? I think I am going to paint a spare bedroom this summer. I am leaning toward Tinkerbell green.

Thanks for asking about Flyer (the pony) He was doing great tonight..my friend is back in town so that's a relief. She is going to build him back up slowly to his regular diet and he should be back on track by Wed! :goodvibes

Belle-Are you coming to the Peep Meet? If so you need to change your ticker. I hope you are!!! :cloud9:

I may have convinced another Peep to come..she lurks on my TR...twob4him. She is leaving for her trip tomorrow! I told her I had room at OKW for her if she doesn't mind sharing the room with Sparkie and I.
