DISappearing Peeps...A fastpass to THIN! Part 4

Hi Peeps!

So I have been MIA for the past week and a half. This new clinic assignment at school plus some harsh "constructive criticism" from one of my supervisors has had me super busy. Which leads me to my reason for posting - I'm in need of some Peep advice.

I have a client who is almost 2 and a half, severe language delay and personally my supervisor and I think there is something else there but we have to deal with what we know. I had him for a client last semester and this semester so I've been seeing him for awhile and his progress is S L O W. Very slow. Mom is in the room for sessions and has refused to separate because she *thinks* he will be upset about it so I've chosen not to pursue it further and just deal with her being there. It's annoying because he runs to her and she sometimes interrupts me to have him say a word or to clarify something he said. And she becomes very defensive when either I or my supervisor discuss his language use, like how does he communicate at home, etc.

Anyway, long story short, I'm at a brick wall with thinking of activities for this kid. He loves cars, bubbles and stacking rings but I can only get so much out of him with those materials. And his attention span is super short - I tried to sit at the table with him once to do an activity and he last about 20 seconds. My supervisor isn't too much help with thinking of materials - she just rambles on in her fancy lingo that I guess I should start using but I think it just sounds like she is trying to sound extra smart  .

I know a lot of you have children or work with kids so if you could spare any ideas on what a delayed 2 yr old might like I'd really really appreciate it. Even if you don't think it would work in a speech treatment session, tell me anyway because your ideas might help me think of some new ones.

Thanks! I miss you guys and I'm going to try to start posting again soon. I just have had no desire to be near a computer if I didn't have to be so no DISing for me. Hope everyone has been well!

I used to nanny for a boy that had speech therapy. He was older though, 4, so not sure if any of her ideas would work. They used to play games, do crafts, puzzles, sort various toys, she read to him..anything that he was interested in at the time she used. I think Pokemon was big then and she used his cards to help him. Anyway, that's my two cents! :rolleyes1

I respect your feelings too and I think I probably felt the same way. I do have to tell you that my first pregnancy (well, all my pregnancies for that matter) was unplanned. I didn't know what to expect and had never held a newborn. But the feeling of holding your own baby and the love you feel for that child is just undescribable. The joy of watching that baby smile at you for the first time and listening to that little laugh just makes your heart so full of happiness that you think it will explode. It's unlike anything I could've imagined. I guess I'm just trying to say that there's more to it than I ever could've thought possible. Being a mom is the hardest and most wonderful job in the world. Just wanted to share that...from a former DINK. ;)

..

COLON BLOW....
1 cup fiber one cereal
2 Tablespoons flax seed meal
1 cup skim milk or lite soy milk

250 calories, 32 grams of fiber.
Guaranteed results. Do NOT eat before going out for a social engagment. Avoid open flames.

Yeah, I hear that a lot... and I know it is hard, and wonderful for some. But, it just isn't for me. Never will be. I used to think maybe, but I have hit my 30s, married, settled, stable, and for many, many reasons, just not for me. But I am happy for my pregnant friends, and for people here and elsewhere that are happy with their decision to have them.

Thanks for the recipe!!

I have had a good day calorie-wise, but probably bad... I chose to eat under 500 calories so that I could have 6 light beers. Had a ff hot dog, wow chips, apple for lunch, and tuna salad in a pita and a salad for dinner.

:lmao: this just sounds so funny to me! way to think ahead and plan around the alcohol!!! :thumbsup2

shannon - i don't have any suggestions for you as this is definitely not my area of expertise. just sending  and :goodvibes your way!

Hehe punkin, gotta have priorities!!

But seriously, I have found that sometimes it is better for me to just indulge in what I want occasionally, in whatever way I can without breaking the diet too badly. I need to find a way to eat healthy for the rest of my life, not just while losing weight.

i think it's better to incorporate your favorites into your normal routine while you're losing weight. that way when you reach your goal, you'll be used to the schedule you've gotten yourself on and you won't totally blow your progress by going back to your old habits. for me it's margaritas and mexican food. usually once a week DH and i go to our favorite mexican restaurant and we get tacos de pollo asada (make-it-yourself chicken tacos in corn tortillas with rice, beans, onions, cilantro and red chili sauce for toppings) to share and a 1/2 pitcher of margaritas. between all that and the chips and salsa, we just share everything. but i only do this once a week as a treat to myself. i think the reason i couldn't lose weight before is i used to eat mexican food like every other day......not good on the calorie counting!!!

I totally respect your decision. In teaching, DH and I see the results of people who have no interest in being parents but cave to the pressures of others. I truly believe that being a parent, or being married for that matter, is a calling from God, and not everyone is called to that path in life.

Good advice. and I'm making the Homer Simpson drooling sound right now.

Hey! big news in my family. We just heard my nephew is going to be a cast member on MadTV next year. He was always a funny kid, and has been making a living as a comedian in a comedy club in Amsterdam for the last couple of years. I'm so proud! I used to change that kid's diapers.

A friend of a friend did NOT want kids but admitted to having one just for her DH. She isn't a bad mom but she isn't great either. She is a very spoiled, self-centered person so being a mom just gets in her way. Now her DH wants another and she says she will have one just so her DD isn't an only child. Apparently she thinks only children are weird. I think she is the one with the problem!! :rotfl:

:cheer2: :cheer2: to your nephew! How exciting!!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, EVERYONE! :sunny:

It's another beautiful day here today! We got DH two shirts and a case of Ale 8 (soda) for Father's Day. :thumbsup2 We'll be spending the afternoon at the pool and there's a catered dinner there so I'm off the hook as far as cooking.

Talked to DD17 yesterday and she is now in Italy. Saw the leaning tower of Pisa on Friday, was in Florence yesterday and on to Rome today. They will take a side trip down to Capri on Tuesday/Wednesday and home on Thursday night.
Morning Peeps!!!
Just wanted to say :wave2:
DH had an instestinal virus once and wanted to go to hospital he thought he was just going to die, btw it was a 24 hr virus!!! I pointed out to him imagine that for 40 weeks??
:lmao:
BUT I did just post a few pics (and posted the other day as well) about seeing Beauty and the Beast on Broadway! It was amazing! Read away, please, while I catch up on my Peeps posts! Still so excited! So magical!! :)
I did take a quick peek yesterday! I love Annelise Vanderpool! I've always told DD she's a better singer than Raven. I'll come back and post on your report...I was trying to catch up on my 30-sumpm subscriptions yesterday and still didn't manage to get that done.
thought i'd share some pics from our babysitting adventure last night.
That baby is adorable! And punkin...please....even w/out a blow dryer you are cute too! Looks like Ray had a good time also.
Thanks for all the happy pony thoughts...
I hope your pony continues to improve. And Tara....6 MORE DAYS!!!
any ideas on what a delayed 2 yr old might like I'd really really appreciate it.
My son's favorite activity at preschool was shaving cream. Just clean off a table and squirt a big mound of shaving cream on the table and then smear it around. Draw pictures in it. etc. Plus it's easy to clean up and leaves the table very clean too. Some boys also like cars..hot wheels and can play with them for hours. We also like puzzles...very, very easy puzzles though for 2-year olds.
Yeah, I hear that a lot... and I know it is hard, and wonderful for some. But, it just isn't for me.
I totally understand. Not trying to talk you into it...just saying there was more to be a mom than I imagined. Sounds like you've thought it through.
We just heard my nephew is going to be a cast member on MadTV next year.
That's so cool, Danielle! Wow! Congratulations to your nephew. Let us know which one he is when the new season starts!
i will try to be on here a lil more than every month or so :rotfl: :rolleyes1 :grouphug: :cheer2: love ya all
Glad you're having a good summer, Misty. You're a better mama than me to buy your husband a nice MP3 player and download some music!

HAVE A BLESSED SUNDAY, EVERYONE, AND DON'T FORGET TO CALL YOUR DAD! :flower3:

Peyton(DS9) was in speech therapy at 2 and I have been trying to remember what he did.I know I had to leave the room because he would bury his head into me or just not cooperate.I do remember them using picture books, maybe you could get Cars picture books at the library? She also had a bell he got to ring after he tried to say something or worked hard.He loved that bell.Once she took him outside when he wasa having a bad day and it worked. If I think of anything else...

I just wanted you all to know that for kicks I tried on the skinny capris this AM (been about a month) They fit!!! They are low rise so I don't find them as comfortable as my current capris but, once again, THEY FIT!!! 5 more pds would make them a perfect fit but don't worry...I'm not that girl wearing low rise pants that obviously do not fit!! :rotfl: I just think I would feel better in them with a few more pds off. Perhaps by WDW so I can bring them??

I think it was Sandy that said I would be able to fit into them by WDW!! :goodvibes

Thanks you guys for all your support...I would not have made it this far without you!! :flower3:

Off to get a haircut, brunch with the in-laws (we aren't going to eat much) and then Red Lobster with my dad and his gf. Have a wonderful day everyone!! :wizard:

It's Father's Day here too and DH got a couple of DVD's and a huge Toblerone! DD's and I went to Church they weren't singing this morning but we went to Sunday School as I've been asked to become a leader  It's only about once a month on a rota and the kids are great but  We're off to play 9 holes this afternoon the girls are in their swimsuits in the garden at the mo playing with a waterslide they bought yesterday it's better than their homemade version which they kept hurting themselves on!

See you later :wave2:

congrats!!! that's so cool! i love that show.....my favorite characters are ms. swan and stewart. oh, and there's another character that always cracks me up. it's the little asian guy that has the bowl haircut and he does the "raising the roof" gesture a lot. i can't think of his name. anyway, he's always the "interpreter", but nothing he says ever makes sense and he always says, "hot dog!!!!!!" he just cracks me up. let us know when your nephew is on!!!

Apparently she thinks only children are weird.

ray and i have already decided that if we have any kids we're only having one. i know some people will take issue with that but we have our reasons. it's called keeping our sanity!!! :lmao: just kidding. there are other reasons. i was an only child until my sister was born when i was 7 and since i didn't live with my dad (she and my brother are my dad and stepmom's children), i still was sort of an only child. i think it made me less selfish.....i valued the time i had with my friends and wanted to share things with them more because i always wanted a playmate. and it taught me to be very independent and use my imagination. not that kids with siblings aren't independent and imaginative, but you know what i mean.

I just wanted you all to know that for kicks I tried on the skinny capris this AM (been about a month) They fit!!!

AWESOME!!!!! :thumbsup2 what a good feeling!

jo - what's a toblerone? just curious! you and my mom should get together - she's a golfing maniac! i played growing up, but once i moved out of the house i haven't picked up a golf club since. just not very interested in it. i was decent at it though - what's wierd is i'm right-handed, but i'm a left-handed golfer. :confused3 my sister was once ranked 1st in the state in tennessee when she was like 15. and then she did the same thing as me - never picked up another golf club once she went to college. both of us love soccer, so i think we were somewhat distracted from golf!

Rob and I (whom aren't even engaged let alone married) feel the EXACT same way! My mom has big issue with having no children or only one and I figure when the time comes she will accept whatever choice we make. But since I nannyed for a job for a while everyone says "but you are so good at it" with other kids. For me its not about me not being able to handle more than one kid at a time either- it is as you have just said for the other reasons. I love my sister and brother and my child will have plenty of playtimes with cousins and friends but we think that we could be more successful parents with only one. Since my sister just had her first child the conversation just kept coming up and finnally I said- you know what? I am not even married and I might change my mind but when I don't remember that it is not the amount of siblings that makes a child selfish or spoiled it is how they are raised! After the whole experience of my sister having her baby I think it made me see how hard it could be and what I could do best, or what we could handle best. I dunno... I respect everyone out there like Rob and my parents who have more than one child and handle everything so well. I just think it might not be down our road. But then again- who knows what the future holds?

hi peeps just marking my spot...

wonders - get mom out of the room, she could seriously be impeeding your progress...i know my boys always paid more attention to me if i was inthe room when they were little. they didnt have therapy or anything. but I do think you should just approach it as a "lets just try this and see if it works" approach to thsi child. mom might be the problem.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I wish I knew you all in real life. My friends here aren't being so supportive. :sad1:

Okay, so OT question... has anyone ever had laser hair removal? I have been contemplating it. I have some buggary hairs on my chin and neck that I'm tired of plucking every 2 or 3 days, and some very fine blond hair that grows on my upper lip. A friend of mine is having it done and it takes quite a few appointments. She said maybe more than 6 because her hair on her chin is being stubborn.

Anyone have any experience they can share? TIA!

Just checking in.. hard day here..

But, wanted you to all know.. who may be wondering..

I AM STILL ALIVE... MISSING YOU ALL..

TRYING TO FIND BELINDA!!!

Love, all y'all
