Public Service Announcement... :scared1:
(Fdil sent it to me! as I always refill, reuse water bottles!)

Cancer update -- Johns Hopkins -- Cancer News from JohnsHopkins:

1. No plastic containers in microwave.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in som ething else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Cover food with a paper towel instead.

So thanks for watching out for us!!

First and foremost, thank you all for the prayers and :grouphug: . We all appreciate it here - VERY much. Know that we are praying for many of you as well. Bee - you are in my daily prayers. Your situation is very close to my heart...

As for the toxins in plastic, it's a pretty widespread urban legend, wide enough that Johns Hopkins has responded to it:

Hah, and I thought I could trust fdil!! Thanks for heading us over to the truth!!

Now I have read that reusing plastic water bottles that the plastic something (toxins) leech out... but I dunno, I still do it!! :confused3

ah here it is its not dioxins its...

Having said this, there is another group of chemicals, called phthalates that are sometimes added to plastics to make them flexible and less brittle. Phthalates are environmental contaminants that can exhibit hormone-like behavior by acting as endocrine disruptors in humans and animals. If you heat up plastics, you could increase the leaching of phthalates from the containers into water and food.

OC&PA: What about cooking with plastics?

RH: In general, whenever you heat something you increase the likelihood of pulling chemicals out. Chemicals can be released from plastic packaging materials like the kinds used in some microwave meals.

its those phthalates!! not that I understand that1!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to wish UtahMama and Punkin and wonderful a safe trip at Disney (land and world)!

(and anyone else - did I miss someone :flower3: if I did because I want you to have a wonderful and safe trip too!)

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE DIS???

I cant chose to click on last post from the main pages - :confused3 is it a new server? an upgrade thingy? I'm going to post on the technical board...

First smileys move around... now the whole first page looks different!

Lost 12 pounds - but this isn't really a good (or healthy) thing.

DH lost his job (of 22 years) a week ago Tuesday, and we are both still reeling physically, anyway, from the shock. Eating and sleeping became, apparently, something we really no longer needed to do. Not a diet I'd recommend to anyone, btw :sad2:

While we do know that the Lord has plans for us -- it became immediately evident that those plans did not include our Big Anniversary Bash With All of our Kids and Grandkids in WDW in May--The first thing I did when I got the news was to call and cancel all of our reservations (Rooms, Grand Gathering Experiences, ADRs and the hardest of all, my grandson's Pirate Adventure Cruise). Took a full half-hour to get them all done.

But -this is just one more way we know God is good to us - the grandchildren never knew. Our oldest DD, their mother, had an elaborate plan to surprise them in the car on the way to the airport with a treasure hunt to find Nonni and Poppy (who would have been, of course, in WDW). The grandkids will never know of the trip that they didn't take.

My kids - all in their 20's, care only about the well being of their father, which I so greatly appreciate.

SO - my plan is to start eating again without gaining TOO many of those pounds BACK (which, logic tells me, ain't gonna happen, as those pounds were not pounds of fat, but most likely water from lack of carbs.)

Regardless...it's good to be back online. I'll probably only go a few pages back to try to catch up...

My new mantra:
:flower3: The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

I read that to fit properly, the corcs should not be touching your feet anywhere-like the foot is sort of floating in them :confused3 Maybe you should have kept the bigger ones?

Yeah, I dunno. :confused3

I can't stand shoes being too loose. I decided to return the Caymans and order a pair of Rx Clouds. I hear they are really comfy.

BTW, I am going to weigh in tomorrow morning. Then next week I'll have to do it on Thursday since I leave for DL early Friday morning. :thumbsup2

CROCS info (sorry meant to comment earlier...)

You can put them in the dishwasher (:confused3 ) according to some, you can take a hairdryer to the back...

I just pulled and stretched them..

Mind you my feet are an 11 - woman's 11 - and cute colors and styles only go in Lg not XL - I bought an xl and my foot swam in them, I'm back to large, and its a comfy fit - the more I wear, the more the croc molds to my foot - since I no longer wear the backs, I dont notice that -

with my first pink pair - - I just pulled gragging with both hands and gently trying to stretch it, it worked for me!!

SO sorry you are sick Belle I must have missed your post about it, I was probably in my corner kicking.

Please take it easy it is so easy to "think" you should be better when iin fact your not. Hey now is someone making you some home made chicken soup?????? If not will be happy to send it your way!!!

:flower3: Thank you! That is so sweet! My mom did make me some soup yesterday.

Thanks everyone - I actually did a 45 min run - and for those that think you are not runners - that is SO me!! I cant tell you how hard it was to get over that hurdle, those first 4 weeks of just moving forward walking... screaming I hate running, and I cant do it! Now today 45 minutes... :faint: I know a huge factor is my dh's support, getting another trip to WDW, and of course shopping - you do have to have the right outfit!! ;) ;)

GET DOWN AND DO 25! 50!! 100!!!
