Hi all,

You've all been such great help with my previous questions so here's another couple for you:

I requested a ground floor room at OKW as DH has mobility problems but since then I've hired a mobility scooter from Apple scooters which will be delivered to and collected from the hotel. So I've now informed WDW that we'll need a disabled access room - does anyone know what the layout of these types of room is / facilities in them?

Also I can't see the online check in when I log in to my WDW reservations page. It shows my booking details and that we've paid the balance - am I looking in the wrong place??

Go to DISNEYPARKS.COM. Do a general search not thru you reservation. Pick places to stay. Pick dates and accessible rooms. You narrow it down also by picking the type of hotel. ex: value, moderate or deluxe.

Example: I choose deluxe and all the deluxe hotels come up. You can do a compassion or go directly to the hotel of choice. Hit availability. It will bring up the different types of rooms. I choose the Polynesian and a standard room with roll in shower. Its says view photos. Click on that.

I can't take climbing into those tubs to take a shower. I was also talking to the rep on the phone about the beds in a regular room I find very high. She stated the beds are lower also. I find when you make the reservation its best to call. Because I am renting a scooter also and want a first floor room. Because I find out info and relay my needs to Disney.

I have never looked at the HC rooms so can't help there but I would say avoid online check in if you have requests.

Tried twice and both times ins failed so now I vowed not to use it s it takes longer to fix.

We where offered an accessible room at BWV when I declined this as I didnt request and also none of us has a disability and I know these as limited and it would be better utilised by someone who needs. Receptionist was not very helpful saying I requested this and I was the last person to book in this category of room. Spoke with manager who said the same thing until I informed him I booked this 11 months prior so was not last person to book, then they said it was so I was beside my daughters room and no other rooms available. 5mins later I was in a different room.

I would send a request by email to resort requesting this type of room.

when you say you need a disabled access room, what do you need? wheelchair accessible, roll in shower or one with grab bars etc.

The layouts are the same as other rooms-generally they just remove a few pieces of furniture to make more room.
Some of the rooms main door have automatic openers/closer.
If you get a room with a roll in shower, instead of there being a wall & door between the toilet and bathroom. So its 1 large room.

theres a thread on rooms in the disAbilities section of the forum, lots of helpful pictures. :thumbsup2

Thanks for that. DH walks with a stick so I ordered the mobility scooter and was concerned about the room being big enough for it. Obviously we need a ground floor room for this and it would be better if he had a walk in shower tray rather than over bath shower. I think he'll be ok with everything else.

I hired a scooter when I was waiting for knee replacement 5 years ago and managed fine in a regular studio on the ground floor. The tub is quite low and so stepping into the shower was not a problem, but obviously that might not be the same for your DH. The toilets are also very low and so if that may be an issue then an adapted room would be the way to go.
