Disabled Protesting at WDW?

So, basically, you can interpret this as Disney revamping the system so that they are in accordance with the law. All this time, they have been in violation of the ADA. Interesting.

Thats what I think. But I guess it would have required a group of non disabled people to file some sort of protest or bring suit and who would want to be involved in a group like that.

I'm surprised that someone has not sued them to make at least one seat/car on every ride accessible to larger patrons. My husband is a large person and he had to sit out several rides because he would not fit but he just went on about enjoying the park. Maybe he should expect special treatment.

This group and their lawsuit will not prevail, especially with a personal injury attorney, lol!

The fact that it is being discussed here means they have already gotten what they wanted. They are doing it for the publicity and they got it. Plus Disney has a history of just throwing money at people to make them go away. So even unnecessary suits still make some money in the end.

I'm sure I don't understand all the flaws with the new system, but it seems more fair, overall. I wish they would add more stations for people with disabilities to pick up cards. I also wish they could have a few areas added where people who are overstimulated can go to give themselves a break from all the noise and action.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg has this kind of seating built into its major rides.

I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, some entitled minds think those of us who think the new system provides a closer to fair environment for everyone are callous and cold hearted.

With the prices we pay and the vacation time we all save for our precious trips to Disney we should ALL (disabled and non disabled) wait the same amount of time to board attractions. No one should be expected to happily tack on time to their families own wait because someone else needs board rides quickly. Kudos to WDW for providing a more comfortable waiting experience to those who need or desire it - as most places (market, post office, costco, mall, movie theater, etc) certainly do not yet many manage just fine.

1) Disney actually got into this later than other parks.
2) Other parks with the identical program
. . . Sea World
. . . Busch Gardens, Tampa
. . . Six Flags (several, but not all)
. . . Universal Studios, California and Florida
. . . many of the smaller independent parks

I'm a bit confused here - when you state program, you do realize that the PP was talking about larger seats, right? Not the DAS or GAC, but physically larger spaces for larger people?

dh is 6'7" with a 40 inch inseam. So long legs! He can't physically fit in some rides and others needs specific seats to squeeze into. If they aren't available we wait. Disney is better than most. Hershey even has rides he's not permitted to ride because there is an upper height limit.
Maybe we should join forces and sue on behalf of those larger than average patrons.

I have to say, I think one of the best systems I've seen for loadig those with mobility impairments is the system used on Toy Story Mania, where a modified ride car is pulled onto a side track, giving those that need assistance or wheelchair loading plenty of time to load, then adding that car back onto the active track. This gives the extra time needed without delaying the other cars. Toy Story Mania ride sysem is far from perfect...lots of delays and breakdowns, but none of them, to my knowledge, have been due to disabled guests loading.

Another good modification is the wheelchair compatible boat for small world, too bad there is no similar side track to load it.

Pretty sure that's what he was talking about--Universal has 'modified seating' on many of their most popular rides for different body dimensions.
