Disabled Priority Card question

grad06 - no u will not upset anyone!!!

situations like that, as before mentioned, maybe its worth a chat at cityhall??? they really r good and do their hardest....

i think, like most things, we have problems with ppl abusing the system, as im sure u know and experience.... its hard enuf in life to get things to help.....

i am sorry to hear bout ur dh and do hope that he can get his share of disney magic this trip (and no comment on the refusing the wheelchair - men eh??) i know that if i cud have the opportunity to do sumthin with my dad i wud.... life is too short....

Thanks Scampbunny.

We will have a great time as Disney. It is what we call our special place, where I am able to pretend that everything is OK. I am soooooo excited. Plan and dream about our trip everyday.:cool1:

Do hate it when people abuse something that is meant to be special for everyone. Do understand that there are some people that do try to abuse things and then spoil it for everyone.

oh yes, dlp is the place where we can forget reality..... and regress, and no one thinks any worse of us!! :goodvibes

I'm not entirely sure what the family you saw were complaining about though lilacgems? I don't think its unreasonable for 12-year olds to queue together without their parents/guardians (thats what secondary-age school kids will be doing all the time on school trips for example, and lots of kids that age would prefer to do rides with their peers compared with their parents anyway).

were they complaining because their whole party of 5 couldn't use the nan's pass? Surely there has to be some kind of restriction of numbers put in place for the passes, otherwise the whole system would be blocked up, and there would be no advantage at all in anyone having a pass?

She was complaining because they couldn't enjoy rides, parades etc as a family and to an extent I do agree you don't go on a family holiday and expect or want to do things separately.

I understand what the pass is there for , to make it easier for disabled guests but it's more stress and less enjoyable when you are being separated.

have to disagree there.....

its loads LESS stress having the card!!

if u go with the 'wider' family, even with a disabled member, i think u must be aware that u will not all be able to be 'bypass' the queues together.... i know what we went with family, we certainly didnt expect them to join in with us, in fact, we found many easy ways around it - they are there if u look for them and if definately didnt cause a problem....

If you look in the book they give you, there are very few rides you can go on so I don't think its too much trouble disney allowing the whole family to go together.

I know my pass was the easy access pass but the book clearly stated I can go on with my assistant (cant remember exact word it used) which clearly has to be an adult. I loved seeing DD faces on the rides we did manage to go on together and when DH and my youngest was turned away from several rides it upset my daughters. I mean I could only go on 5 or 6 rides so its no hardship to allow us all together as I spent the rest of the time sat on a bench alone whilst the others went on rides. Getting on storybook village alone with DD I slipped as its quite a big step and the seats were wet and my DH wasn't allowed to come on this could of caused a serious injury to me or my unborn child. Then getting on Buzz once they allowed me and children on so I had to try and lift my 6yo and carry my toddler on to the ride as it was moving and smacked my knee getting on and it was hard work trying to carry a 18 month old with a massive bump. I do not feel I was abusing the system and had DH been allowed on Buzz too I would not have struggled and hurt myself.

Rosebug has been offered the easy access card for August, there are only the 3 of us going, does this mean that only one of us will be able to accompany DD and the other will have to stand to one side? Or will both of us be allowed to accompany her?!

very few rides??

think it depends on the disability as we werent limited on rides!!

im sorry to say this but, if u were tying to carry a child onto a ride, surely thats ur own problem? u cant say, i hurt myself because disney wudnt let me have another person with me - u chose to do it....

i wudnt have attempted any 'theme park' when pg.... but then, thats me.....

and if they allowed everyone on, then the queues become longer and those that the pass really benefits are then losing out more.....

the pass is to enable the DISABLED person to enjoy the park as much as an able bodied person..... many disabled ppl benefit from the whole atmosphere at disney, hence the pass..... if ur going as a large group, do u think its fair to 'piggyback' on the back of a persons disability to get on rides quicker?? if theres more of u then immediate family, then it makes sense that ur able to split up....

obviously all cases are unique, and shud be assessed as so - as i mentioned to grad06 before, and circumstances like that shud be considered.... its like taking ur 90 yr old great grandad along and expecting short queues just *** he needs a pass....

anyhow - this thread was to help owensdad (and then jules and grad06) about the pass for disabled visitors..... and thats what i should be for...

depends on her condition - cant remember if u said it was permanent?? anyhow - i think as there are only 3 of u (rose, urself and dp?) there shudnt be an issue....

again - make sure u have detailed info on the problems, as state there is 3 of u total and i cant see u having a problem :goodvibes

No, not a permanent condition. She has bowel problems, and has been put on medication which has caused toilet issues, which means we wouldn't be able to queue for huge amounts of time, or be too far from a bathroom. I didn't ask for the easy access pass, I was just expecting to avoid things and enjoy what we can. After a random chat with a CM when paying, we got an email from the special needs dept saying to take a med certificate to collect our easy access pass. It'll be a shame if we can't go on things as a family, but we'll only use it when it's use it or avoid the attraction altogether, and it will give Rosebug the chance to do things she wouldn't have got to do otherwise (like in Feb we had to leave queues for things because she said she needed the toilet and panic sets in) and if that means we take it in turns on certain things, it's no big deal. It means she will get to do some things twice, once with mammy and once with daddy, and as many things as we can together!

If this week is anything to go by one of you will miss out, we did occasionally get a nice cm that allowed us all to be together, once on the carousel but always during dreams.

Oh well, at least she will get to do the things she wouldn't otherwise get to do, it's not for us, it's for her and she'll be happy as long as one of us is with her, and we'll just take it in turns. I am so grateful to DLP for offering us the opportunity to get the card tbh, as we were just planning on avoiding things with massive queues and character meets etc. which is why we have booked so many character meals! Fingers crossed we get some nice CM's.

I think thats a really sensible attitude :).

Of course I could of left DD crying outside the ride :sad2:

I went to Disney when pregnant before as have many other members on here and last time and do not feel I should justify this to anyone! Last time I was allowed to take DH and DD on rides with me. If they weren't my children or husband then I would understand but we weren't a large group and were not piggybacking we were a FAMILY on a FAMILY HOLIDAY. I'm sure if you had to leave one of your children behind with your pass you wouldn't feel the need to attack my opinion.

If the purpose of the pass is to allow a disabled person to enjoy it as much as everyone else I am not sure having to leave a child behind when they go on a ride is fulfilling that purpose.

Since when did being pregnant become a disability?
Thank u for saying that!!! I wanted to say it!!! Lol

Rosebug u will b fine and will b together. lilacgems has no experience other than being pg which is completely different!!!!

And lilacgem u asked to b pg - Disabled don't ask to b that way and the pass is a small thing for them to get.... children won't get left behind!!!

Being pregnant is in not a disability, and shouldn't be seen as one or even a temporary disability. It is a choice, simple as that, if one decides to have a baby then one should accept that for 9 months you cant be doing the usual things.

I'd love nothing more in the world than my boy to be free of his condition, I hate it that he is disabled to such a severe extreme that he can't even hold his head up without support, can't hold anything in his hands etc.

Being pregnant is a wonderful gift, it should not be classed as disabled as its not a disability.

Folks please remember, difference of opinion is fine, personal attacks are not. The thread will be closed if it gets personal.

to be fair though owensdad, DLP does have an Easy Access pass for pregnancy (or whatever its called these days).

Apologies for the rant, it can get to me sometimes, the problem these days is its so easy for people to jump on the 'disabled' bandwagon and its as though people actually want to be classed as disabled, just seems so wrong to me.

Didn't mean to offend anyone, I can over do it a bit sometimes!
