It's been 11 years since we have been to WDW and a lot has changed since then. I have a child ( adult child) who is totally disabled. She has to remain in her wheelchair. Last time we were at Disney we received a card at customer service that helped us. I am not sure if they still have such a thing , we are in the beginning stages of planning another trip for next year and I have no clue what they offer for wheelchair bound people now. Should we plan on going to customer service again or has things changed tremendously since then ? What are other people doing who are confined to their wheelchair anything to help get around ? TIA

The system is now called DAS and it is to provide a ride a return time equal to the stand by line if they have issues being in the normal queue. Wheelchair users do not automatically qualify for the DAS card and if the nature of the request accommodation is to help with mobility or stamina then the card is not suppose to be issued. If a guest has an issue that makes standing in line difficult but is not mobility or stamina based then they go to guest relations on teh first day of their trip and say why they have difficulty being in the standard line and what accommodations they believe would assist them.

since most rides at disney world are main stream ( meaning you can use them in a wheel chair) you really do not need anything ( how cool that she gets to do things like every one else dose, and get to see and do all the interactive things in the lines now) with that said there are a few rides that there are steps in like Splash moutian or TSMM there you will be directed to an alternative entrance ( most you enter what ever line FP or stand by and when you get to the point is when you will go another way the CM will help you) since your DD uses a wheel chair the CM can see she can not do steps and will let you know when they see you so there is really nothing you need to do.

If your daughter has other needs beside the need for a wheel chair then you can go talk to GR about other accommodation.

I hope this helps

a few rides that use alternative entrances ( you will need to talk to the CM at the ride for a return time )

MK

BTMRR
JC
Space moutian

EPCOT
space ship earth

rides that have steps or but you can still enter FP or Stand by

MK

Splash
HM ( no steps but after the stretching room you go though the exit to board)

HS

TSMM

there are a few rides that once you get to the boarding area you will go around to the exit ( but I think they change too much to list the CM will let you know.

The above list is not 100% accurate I am sure I have missed and have something in the wrong place as I do not normally use a wheel chair and it has been about 3 months since I went with my friend that used one.

There is a thread pinned near the top of this forum - WDW - Disability Access Service. The first post of that thread has information about the DAS program.

Enjoy your vacation!

ETA: my apologies, I have fixed the link to the DAS thread
