DH and i used to go in Oct- but as everyone said- it seems to be getting more crowded at that time of the year (Food and Wine Festival probably)-- we then tried the beginning of December a few times- POP Warner makes it more crowded and a few times we had to wear our winter coats at night! 
.......so now...that brings us to our 2006 trip......
we are going to try Sept because of low crowds (16th/24th).....i hate the heat, DH loves it. he said he will be so glad he does not have to bring a jacket...or gloves!
i just ordered those neck wraps that i read about a few threads ago.....maybe this will work for me. i think i will be able to tolorate the heat much better with low crowds, i wont be so cranky
....so hopefully it all works out!
