Not saying that is what CL_Capecad and the others did but it seems the only way to get a score that high. I have never seen a score in the 60,000 range, personally I have never gotten above 40,000.
Would really like to know how they achieved this feat.

PS Keep practicing it gets easier and no matter the score the game is alot of fun to play.
McGrupp is correct, the only way to score that high is to play with people you know. However, even with people you know, scores like that are not easy to achieve within the time limit. There is only so much ammo and health available.
Here are some of my hints for obtaining the highest scores possible:
1. Shoot from far away. You may notice the 500 flashing on the screen when you shoot a ship, that is the points per round you are receiving. When you shoot from further away you will see 800, 910, or even 1000 points per round. This takes a lot of practice to consistently hit your opponents, but works rather nicely especially when they are bunched up together.
2. Allow your opponent to heal before you sink them. Each ship can take 4 rounds before it sinks, that's 4 individual rounds not 4 shots of 3 rounds.
3. Do not get shot. Points are deducted every time an opponent shoots you. This explains why you may sink a ship and still end up with "0" points.
4. Do not allow debris to hit you. Points are deducted every time debris hits you.
5. Circle enemy ships while you shoot them. It is harder for them to shoot you while you are circling around them.
6. Keep moving. It is harder for opponents to shoot you while you are moving. Make sure you are clicking on a new place to go before you reach your destination.
7. Head from ammo supply to ammo supply while you are shooting at your opponent.
These high scores were obtained when a group of us got together to see "How high we could score" which seems to be what most of the high scores are these days. My typical high score in a game of 8 players is usually around 36,000 - 44,000 points depending on how good the opponents are and how good my team members are.
