DIS Shareholders and Stock Info ONLY

Bipartisan opposition and the EU all but confirming their official opposition to the deal, lets see if anything sticks or is it all hot air...
From pieces I've read by various industry insiders, some of the opposition to the Netflix deal is coming from people who want to see WB sold to a company perceived to be friendlier to the current federal administration. So some of the outrage about Netflix's potential antitrust issues doesn't have the purest motives.

I might be mistaking you for a different commentator whose previous political comment was removed.... but perhaps the controversial thread is the place for you @FanforDisney .... if you want to engage with political commentary, why not go to the place on the DIS where it is allowed instead of a thread here where your political comments will get removed and you will get points....

I see you did not complain about ELijan Abrams comment who started this. I get it, if it is a comment against my team is bad, but if it comment for the other team is good.

He shouldn't be making comments like that on this thread either. Thread has already had to be locked and restarted due to political arguments and I'd rather not have that happen again.

Paramount Skydance launches hostile bid for WBD ‘to finish what we started,’ CEO Ellison tells CNBC

Key Points
  • David Ellison-run Paramount Skydance is launching a hostile bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Paramount will go straight to WBD shareholders with an all-cash, $30-per-share offer.
  • Netflix won a bidding war for the Warner Bros. film studio and HBO Max streaming service, but it doesn’t plan to buy WBD’s TV networks.
  • Paramount has repeatedly argued keeping Warner Bros. Discovery whole was in the best interest of its shareholders.

But I did not see his comments removed. Why is that?
I don't know, I'm not a moderator and there isn't an active moderator for this board. They usually just delete individual posts when they're reported but if a discussion has gotten completely out of hand they might do more than that.

EDIT: now both posts have been deleted, so there's that.

Vague comments that do not specifically mention actual names often fly under the radar... however when you are blatantly obvious about being political then it is easier to identify and those often get dealt with quicker
I appreciate the efforts of the Mods to keep threads on topic and avoid political controversy. Their job is difficult and they can't be everywhere on the boards. We can all help by reporting offensive posts when we see them.

Follow the rules of the board or get dinged. But dont mess up threads with bringing up topics that do not belong..... . especially since there is a specific DIS approved place to discuss politics/religion etc.,

Still annoys me that my original shareholder thread got shut down. Please, let's not let it happen again. Thank You All !!

While we're on the subject of the original thread, lets forget about annoying politics and annoy ourselves by looking at the stock performance since the original thread and this thread were started:

Original thread: 12/2/2020 $154.01
This thread: 08/26/2022 $116.53
Current: 12/08/2025 $107.54

For reference, the S&P for those 3 dates was:

3,669
4,436
6,845

Rather disappointing, to say the least....

Comcast president outlines unsuccessful WBD offer and future of NBC’s Peacock

Key Points
  • Comcast’s offer for Warner Bros. Discovery greatly differed from its counterparts in the sale process.
  • Netflix’s and Paramount Skydance’s offers were heavily made up of cash. Instead, Comcast President Mike Cavanagh said its offer was lighter on cash as the company didn’t want to overload its balance sheet.
  • Comcast’s bid would have seen a combined NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery become a publicly traded subsidiary of Comcast.

That's some interesting information. I'm really puzzled at the factors driving DIS on the Market. To me this looks like a well run company with good earnings. Yes, there were some bumps along the way - especially covid and the recovery period - but they seem to have a steady progression. I wonder if the market is weighing the whole streaming battle a bit too heavily.

I think most of it comes down to no one believing streaming margin can replace the rapidly declining linear margin. Your right that the numbers look pretty good for a mature company but, when their streaming competition are tech behemoths, mature companies will never get the same multiples and respect, I guess.

This post from a month or so ago goes into some of the negatives stalling the stock:

This post from a month or so ago goes into some of the negatives stalling the stock:

The thing is that Streaming is growing and DTC operating income will likely surpass Linear Networks this year for the 1st time and will never look back.

The idea that streaming cannot replace linear or its margins is just not true. Netflix last 4 reported quarters was at 29% average while Disney's linear network Margin was 31.6% in FY25.

Disney's DTC had a 5.6% operating margin in FY25. Their goal is to be at least at +10% by the end of FY26.

Keep in mind that Disney is only 6yrs into this DTC thing, While Netflix has been plugging away at streaming for almost 2 decades.

Also, Disney's pricing is way below that of Netflix and they have plenty of runway to go up.

Of course, none of this means Wall Street will care in 10yrs when Disney is making say $10-12B a year in Operating Income just from DTC. Lol.
