Really, really nice work all!

Merryweather-So I take it you flashed the chairs manually at the very end? Or did you do rear sync?

Hopefully I will be able to do something next week. August is hectic for us. I've had this shot that I've been wanting to try forever, I just have figure out how to do it safely. There is this road by DD's school that is kind of a hill and looking down there is a street light, houses and then parts of the Strip in the back round. Every time I go down it I think it would make a great shot. But I'd have to stand in the middle of the road to it (and I'm not sure I could get the camera high enough) or perch myself on someone's roof... DH and I have discussed me standing in the bed of his truck to get it, we'll have to see. At least I'm married to someone who is willing to try and help me get the shot.:thumbsup2

;) I always say ...if you can't play in traffic together what's the point ???? ;)

I manually flashed them with my speedlite (not attached to the camera)...not sure of what power setting I was using though. I was not awake yet :goodvibes. Good luck getting your shot!

I feel a bit embarrassed to post this photo..!! ;)
Anyway, I was out last week at a wildlife park on the Gold Coast. They had this waterfall in one of their bird enclosures. I thought I'd try to get that lovely smooth water effect which I haven't been able to get ever before!! I think because it was so dark in there I was able to do it.
I ventured into manual for this one to get a slow shutter speed - I think about 1sec. The camera was resting on a walkway railing. I was so thrilled to get this effect - I have tried at many places but never been succesful! I will perservere now that I know I can do it...!!!

Heather,

Honestly, I think this photo is awesome! I like it mainly because it shows that you are learning the way this is done. Exactly what this thread is about. Many of the photos you see here are beautiful, but they (many of them) are also taken by those who have a really good idea of how to achieve the desired result. I like to see people trying something new AND having the guts to post the result. Great Job. Keep up the practice and learning.

+1 to this!:thumbsup2 I don't have the nerve to post my pics half the time.

I tried panning handheld on this shot taken @ 1/80 and was initially disappointed. Yes, the subject isn't terribly sharp but I think that I actually prefer the motion and personality captured in this shot versus a tack sharp subject frozen in space.

Here are a few shots I took at Morraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park. I was there in the waning light of the evening. I used a blue/gold polarizer. It's a new toy. I way overdid it for these pictures, but I wanted to see what the extremes would look like.

Last night we went to a star gazing open house at a local observatory. Talk about a photographic challenge. Never use a flash around star gazers...it's worse than using flash on PotC. You'd think you had blinded them. I opted for long exposures of the exterior of the building.

I was playing around with motion blurs yesterday. I set my exposure at 1/10 of a second and took shots with the camera in motion. I was trying for an artsy affect. What do you think?

I tried something different today. I wanted a picture with blowing flowers blurred by the wind set against an interesting static background. I haven't found the perfect setup, but I tried a few shots in the field in front of the house. I used some aspen trees with elk marred bark as my background. I'm not very happy with the results, but I think I can make it work if I keep at it. I suspect that I should use a longer focal length to magnify the flower blur.

I used a Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter to get the long exposure. It's much more costly than just buying a normal ND filter, but I love using it. I bought it primarily for video use, but I've been enjoying it for static photography as well. The nice thing is that I can set up a shot at 2 stops of filtering and then adjust it to 8 stops. I've had trouble working with my 9 stop ND filter because it makes things so dark that it is hard to frame.

3.2s, f/16, ISO 50, 66mm (66mm equiv), 8 stop ND filter.

Great job, Heather! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! :flower3:
You have made my day!! I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can maybe (finances allowing) get a dSLR before I go to WDW next year. I have all the books so am in learning mode whenever I can!

This is from a recent holiday to Italy. I t was a great evening at Lake Garda.

Presenting the Presidential Busts...

ISO 200, f/16, 1.6 seconds

Taken at dusk with high-powered fluorescent lighting on the busts. My personal favorite:

ISO 200, f/16, 2.5 seconds

Having Live View on my camera really made this easy. Maybe that's cheating, but it was good practice for shooting Wishes in 3 weeks. Manually focus on the castle, meter on it and probably underexpose by a stop or so, and I'm all set.

Great picture. Where did you take it and has it been enhanced?

It was taken at Colchester Point, Vermont. I boosted the colour saturation in iphoto but that was pretty much it. I'm picking up CS4 tomorrow to begin the process of learning how to really do proper post production.
