Update on me:
Still no job. I don't know if they really don't want me or if they just are being slow. Either way, I will be doing more resume submitting and keep plugging forward.
We may not be selling our house and moving. I was so excited to finally move in to the city. I never wanted to live this far out (20 miles to the center of the city, but about 10-15 from most of our life happenings.)
But after 3 full days out house hunting, we are reconsidering. The costs of houses have gone up tremendously and we would have to spend $100K more for a house that is about 3/4 the size of what we have now and far less land. Add to that the higher tax rate, realtor fees, and closing costs, and we are looking at a grand total of about $200K over the course of 10 years, just for the privilege of living in another 5-10 miles.
For $200K we can help fund the kids' college.
We had a couple of long talks and decided to look instead at changing our lifestyle. Some of the heavy driving is coming to an end, which was a huge driving force in wanting to move. We will no longer be homeschooling so all those HSing activities up in the city will stop. My son has opted not to do the charter school next year, so that is a huge change (it is 20 miles away!), we are changing scout troops for my youngest, and will look for something down here now. And there is more, but you get the idea.
I did negotiate a few things......told DH if we are staying here, we need to do some things I have always wanted to do but we kept saying, "The next owners can take care of that" like the fence repair, the pool deck, the storage shed built, etc....
In some ways, this is a big weight lifted.....moving is SO much work. In other ways it is a dream unfulfilled and a let down.
