Dis Old Fogies Clubhouse – Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other. Makes No Difference!

Spent the weekend in South Carolina. It was very wet. I left just before they shut down part of the freeway. My friends are still there and stuck. The bridge in front of one of my friends has been washed out.

Another friend in Sumter has posted on FB that they have had to walk away from their house as it was starting to take on water. She also reported alligators in downtown Sumter in the rising waters.

Another report is of caskets coming out of the ground, but that rumor is not confirmed.

It is scary out there.

Oh no! That sounds super scary! I hope everyone is safe.

I didn't realise that there was flooding in SC. I just checked the net and it definitely reads very scary!

Stay safe.

DawnM, the report of caskets coming out of the ground is confirmed. One cemetery where this is happening is in Springfield, not too far from where my cousin lives. It's heartbreaking for the families. And there have been alligator sightings in downtown Sumter, and in downtown Columbia. I'm sure they're out in Myrtle Beach and Charleston as well. Columbia and many other areas had a curfew last night. They closed the roads going in to Charleston on Saturday night. Parts of the interstates around Columbia are closed due to flooding, and they closed a major section of I-95 from I-20 (Florence) to I-26 (above Charleston) for safety.

Two of my YoYo Sisters, my sister and her family, and my niece and her family live in the flooded area in Columbia, but are on high enough ground that for now, they're safe for now. I have rooms for them here should they need them. I used to live there too, and I understand that my old house is now flooded. I know of four friends who have lost their homes to the waters and one friend who lost a nephew to the flood. Please send prayers, pixie dust, well wishes, good thoughts, good vibes and positive healing energy to my beleaguered home state. And Columbia just buried one of their local police officers who was killed in the line of duty, a very good young man who I remember as a teenager.

We're OK. We had some minor flooding, but it drained off quickly. I'm west of the flood line and on a different river system with a different watershed. I'm just trying to go through the house to see what I can donate to my friends who've lost everything. I have an extra set of pots and pans in the box, blankets, towels, sheets, and some clothes earmarked for one friend. Another friend will get one of my Mom's old comforters and a set of dishes I was going to sell.

I'm good until I turn on the TV or look at photos on Facebook. This is the road I used to take home and is about 1/4 mile before I'd turn into my subdivision.

Stay safe. Thinking of you all!!!

Good morning, y'all. I'm in tears. I just found out that my sister's school, where she's taught for years, where her children went, and her grandchildren are students, was flooded. The water is down so they can evaluate and begin to plan a course of action to reopen the school. They're trying to salvage what they can, but it's not looking very promising that they'll be able to save much. I'll be out at the thrift stores today looking for children's books and other things I know she had in her classroom.

I haven't heard from them yet this morning though. My sister and her husband live across from their daughter and her family. All are in the latest evacuation zone, so I'm praying they and their pets made it out safely last night. My YoYo Sisters in the area are OK. At least two more dams broke last night, causing the evacuations. It's stopped raining. Now we wait for the runoff from the rain that fell upstate. I'll be OK. I'm in a different watershed system than Columbia, Charleston and Myrtle Beach are.

On a happier note, I'll be starting to plan our next Disney vacation later this month!

I saw that on the news and it sure looked really bad. I hope people and animals get rescued.

Oh YoYo! I hope they can salvage quite a bit. It is heart breaking, I saw it on the news. Prayers are out for the people and the animals.

Thanks! Sadly, there's very little they can salvage at the school. They're trying to dry out some text books and library books. The computers are gone. Everything in the pre-school area is a total loss. They're not sure they can salvage the pre-school building. The grammar school is in better shape, but if it wasn't on the third shelf, it's most likely a loss. My networking group is collecting school supplies and other necessities for them, and I'll drive them up once the school is ready for them.

Thankfully, everyone is safe and accounted for, including pets. No family and no YoYo's lost their homes. They're without water but can get bottled water at distribution centers set up by the city. The outpouring of bottled water and pre-packaged foods is overwhelming. My car is full! I'll make a run tomorrow. Someone set up a Facebook page for lost pets to help them reunite with their owners.

If you saw the flooded area in Columbia, you saw the area I used to live in. My brother almost broke down in tears when I explained where the flooding was. He was OK until I told him it was at the Fresh Market on Forest Drive and the McDonald's on Garners Ferry. When I told him that the road that went between the two small lakes in the neighborhood where I used to live was gone, he choked up. Had we still lived there, we'd have been flooded out. I feel for the people who bought our old house.

It could have been so much worse. I look out my window and consider myself ever so blessed.

I am glad everyone is safe. And nice to hear they are helping the pets. I don't know the area, but I know some people in Irmo. I haven't spoke to them in so long. I don't know if that town is affected or not. I am blessed everyday I wake up. I am glad your there to help as much as you can.

Thank you!

There's some flooding in the low lying areas around Irmo, but for the most part, they're OK. I have cousins and friends who live there.

PIO I will pray that you guys have a low season of it.

YoYo thank you for letting me know about Irmo.

Sadly, it's going to be a long season. The firefighter authorities are pretty grim at the moment; and El Nino is going to be strong this season. So, hot, dry and long summer coming up. We also have idiots in the community that have incendiary tendencies!!

Good evening Fogies.

Hope everything is okay down there PiO.

Can't wait to go in a few days to the DLR during the Halloween season and a week away till the WDW trip.
